Everything a GM does is super blatant fiat stuff. Those stormtroopers didnt just happen to be in the hangar bay, the GM put them there.
Notice tho that I said the same thing. If you are going to fiat invulnerability, you cant do it often. I dont do it more than once a campaign, so thats about 3 times a decade now.
A bad guy who you have had a **** of a time killing is far more fun than one shotting every one that shows up. Using fiat is a very double edged sword, but boring bad guys arent fun any more than ones that are impossible to kill because he is protected by plot.

If you are running the numbers to make sure the GM is following the RAW, you are wasting your time and his. If you arent, you are wrong about fiat.
I would have to say it is the latter, unless you have never had to improvise while GMing, or your GM has never had to improvise either, cause guess what, that is GM fiat.

korjik got a reaction from StriderZessei in Cargo capacity of YT-1300 vs YT-2400
WEG made up the factual data tho.

The fact is that the encumbrance rules make no real sense when applied to vehicles. Unless blaster pistols weight 600 kg each, there is no way a Yt-1300 will come close to its mass limit with pistols.

A cargo vessel is designed to carry cargo. Tons of it. That would equate to rather extreme amounts of encumbrance. The ships in EotE should have been given a tonnage rating, and then maybe an encumbrance capacity for hidden stuff.

The long and short of it is: GMs do what you and your players think is fun.

Not actually what I was talking about and no offence, but a bit of a straw man. All I was saying is that I dont see why not getting XP for not playing is considered a punishment. I also very much said that this is the sort of thing that every group has to figure out for themselves, so what I would do is hardly relevant to anyone elses group. Quite frankly the only reason I remember to spend XP is that since I GM like 90% of the time, when I am playing I end up with a couple hours with nothing else to do.
As for a player getting added, to me having a role isnt the problem. If I am adding someone to a game that has been going on for a year, that is a year of backstory that the new player doesnt have. It means there is going to be several months at least before they are up to speed on the backstory of the campaign. Plus, since I sometimes plant hints and hooks years in advance, the established PCs may be in the spotlight as their plot hooks resolve and the new guy doesnt get much till the current stuff resolves. The couple times I have had that happen its bugged me enough to take alot of the fun out of running the game. Making a new campaign prevents that from happening.

I would start a new game. Adding a new player to an established game frequently all that fair to the new player. Not because they lack XP or not, but because there is an established dynamic that they have to break into.
What I dont understand is how not getting an award is a punishment. XP is an award for playing, not something you should just expect. Not that I think that many players would play a game for long if there were no XP awards. Not getting XP isnt a penalty, but the normal state of things when not playing.
I can see keeping everyone at the same level in a level based system. Sometimes even a 1 level difference is a big change in character ability. Star Wars doesnt have that problem tho. Even 50 or 60 xp isnt all that big a difference in character ability.
But then again, this is a classic 'your mileage may vary' sort of thing. This is something every group of players has to determine for themselves how it is done in there group, and arguing about it is one of the more pointless things one can do. I certainly wouldnt refuse to play because the rest of the group decided to do it the opposite way from what I thought

Actually, you dont know that. There is no reason to believe that a ship entering hyperspace has a kinetic energy. Or that coming out of hyperspace has the same effect as a ram going into hyperspace. Actually, judging from the Millenium Falcon coming out of hyper into atmo and not going splat, it isnt likely that there is alot of energy store coming out of hyper. Maybe there has to be a minimum size mass shadow to affect a target, so that fighter sized ships wont do damage to cap ships, much less planets.
One thing that no one here seems to be mentioning is that warships have turbolasers and shields. Either of which may make it so that the ship trying to do a hyperspace ram would fail. If you look at the situation in TLJ, the Supremacy was fully concentrated on the escaping rebels and had lost track of the Raddus. When they realized where the Raddus was and what it was doing, they collectively panicked. They knew they were toast and tried to open fire on the Raddus.
My takeaway from this is that if a Cruiser running into an SSD will wreck a fleet, then a cruiser running into a few turbolaser shots will get torn apart.
The second thing is that the Raddus was a good deal faster than the Supremacy. This says to me that the Supremacy diverted all power but a few turbolasers into the engines to keep up. The Supremacy's shields were down when the Raddus hit it. That could be an indication that shields may be able to deflect the effect of the hyperspace ram. Dont ask me how.
And before anyone says that there is no way they would have their shields down, I would ask why would they have their shields up? Power takes fuel and fuel costs money, and wearing out the generators on something the size of a Star Destroyer would be a pain in the backside to replace. The rebels had nothing to attack with, so they First Order didnt need to worry about getting shot at, so there was no reason to have their shields up.
Basically, the only reason the ram worked was that there was a long chain of events that all had to go one way to allow it to work. Trying to use it as a standard tactic would fail always.

    I don't.
While some meta-gaming is unavoidable, in cases like this, it's totally avoidable.
Think about it like this: Dump the game, and just envision the scene like you would see in a movie.
The heroes sneak up and look at the bandit camp... what does it look like? Is it clean and orderly, or just a mish-mash encampment with trash all over and no real rhyme or reason to it's layout? Is there an organized defense with kill zones and clear lines of sight, or just a repeating blaster up on a rooftop with a couple thugs sitting next to it?
What do the bandits look like? Are they cleaned up, wearing like clothing, or just whatever? Are they partying and drinking, playing soccer, unloading supplies, or just going about their business?
Does the camera zoom in and highlight one of the bandits doing something?  What does he look like? What's he doing? Is he all buff and bench-pressing another bandit? Is he cleaned up and giving orders?

These are all observable things that you can feed the players or have them roll for, and it's information that provides a non-meta clue about meta questions.
Lots of scruff looking nerf herders? Probably all minions that will form up into small groups or not at all.
Clean and organized, minion groups will be larger and coordinate better.
Special guys mixed in? There's Rivals and Nemesis here.
Buff dude? He's a tank. Leader dude? He's gonna buff those minions (and boy can leaders buff minions.)
Solid Defenses? You might have to deal with traps, mines, and sensors in addition to the bandits.
Unloading supplies? They may have additional support you can't see.
Perception, Vigilance, and Warfare checks could all yield this information, awarding players for plusing up those skills. And the dice results help too. Rolled a Despair on that perception check? I wonder what they didn't see...

He's an idiot and he's acting like a spoiled little princess.

Why on earth should whatever Disney is doing to Star Wars now have any effect on whether or not he enjoys his old SW comics, monopoly or FFG RPG's?

I vehemently hated (and still pretty much loathe) the Prequels, but it didn't make me burn all my old star wars toys or RPG's, and it certainly didn't stop me from loving Star Wars in general.

I just ignored that setting, pretty much.

If he doesn't like the new stuff, he should just ignore the new stuff. It ain't that hard, really.

I'm honestly sick and tired of all this whiny entitled bull that's going around in the SW fandom right now.
Most of the fans don't mind the new stuff. Many of them love the new stuff, in fact.
But some who don't are throwing hissy-fits and spewing hatred in any place they can find, fully expecting everyone else to agree with them, and those pricks just need to shut the **** up and grow the **** up.

I'm finding this thread hilarious as normally the people who like the new stuff, TLJ in particular, are the ones who are usually being derided as easily triggered snowflakes.
I'm trying to sympathize with someone's love of old stuff being ruined by release of new stuff, but to me it only comes off as, well, entitled whining. Old stuff was fine before, but now new stuff is out old stuff must be thrown away? Methinks you invest more in your identity as a fan of a franchise than you care about the media itself in that case. Dislike the new stuff all you like, but if it ruins the old stuff for you, maybe you need to take a step back and consider what exactly it was you liked about all that stuff you've decided to throw away.
I mean, I can relate to the dissapointment, but not the reaction.
It's not like I burned my Judge Dredd comics after the Sylvester Stallone movie*.
*for those who are lucky enough not to know, this movie is such a foul abomination that having Jar-jar in it would actually improve it.

Not that I don't see many of the flaws people point to in the Disney movies (except Rogue One, which I thought was nearly flawless).  But seriously, anyone who would rather spend a couple hours with Hayden Christiansen or Jake Lloyd than with Daisy Ridley, John Boyega or Adam Driver has very different taste in movies from me.

I’m fine with Star Wars being a space opera, as it always was Flash Gordon.  Simulation isn’t my interest in RPGs, I think video games handle crunch better and in a timely fashion.  It’s the drive for game balance that I have a problem with, rpgs are not pvp and don’t really need much balance as the GM has an I win button anyways.

Why are you worried about the droids being restricted or not? Its edge of the empire, not Obey the Law. If you are going to take the droids and shoot some place up, the fact that the droids are restricted isnt what is going to get you sent to Kessel.
Personally, I think your best bet (or your player's) is not to go big, and get a $15k nemesis assassin droid to use as his combat skills, but to go cheap. Get a group of refurbished B1 battle droids and have them act as a minion group. 5 minions can be a nasty dice pool, especially with the PCs support, and they arent all that expensive if they get shot up. If you are also generous with salvaging destroyed bots, you can even reduce the cash expenditure.

I've never looked at it as the Johnson is giving group A 25k cause there is 5 of them but would give group B 50k cause there is 10 of them. Its the Johnson is hiring the PC group and his budget is 5k per PC. Plus, I tend to not present the pay that way either. I lump sum it and let the players worry about the split after.
