NickelPlate reacted to Hinge of Infinity in Have I made an expensive mistake?
Watercolour Dragon's analogies about different music artists and their latest albums is spot on.
I went all out on Descent 1E when it was live...still have it and still love it. It was my first experience of modern boardgames and I was hooked.
When Descent 2E came out I was initially reluctant and a bit sceptical but the reviews were glowing, so I jumped in and loved that too and found it was a different experience. It didn't make my 1E collection redundant at all...but it gave me a shorter, faster, more streamlined way to play short chapters in a campaign rather than massive marathons of an afternoon and evening adventure. Still in the same universe and setting with the same high fantasy vibe but different.
I expect 3E or whatever it is will be the same. It won't make 1E or 2E redundant, it'll offer something different again (otherwise they'd simply release more expansions for 2E). So don't regret the purchase, you've bought into a fabulous game setting and system that's about to get another, but different, dimension added to it. And if you ever come across 1E at a reasonable price, give that some consideration too...it's a much more epic, narrative adventure than 2E and deeply immersive.
They all offer something slightly different - just like each album of my favourite artists.
Enjoy - regrets just waste energy that could be spent playing!

Keep and enjoy what you've got and the new stuff if you like the sound of it when it's out. Think of it as getting in to one playing card card game then you discover another- or getting a vintage, quality draughts set then a shiny new modern set of chess pieces. In both these examples you have two similar but different games to enjoy.
Or an artist's debut album then the second album is released, the first no longer seems so 'now' but you still love the music and can enjoy listening to either.
2e will be fun whatever parts of the picture you have and the app will adapt to them and include what you've got (if you get the app now it should remain playable even if it's superseded)

NickelPlate got a reaction from jbudd in Keeping second edition's 'journeys' going....
Thanks for posting and thanks to you and others who have labored and shared their work. My wife and I went all in with D2E about a year ago and still love playing it. We're on our third campaign in RTL and have one to go after that. The plan is to then make the move to fan made content such as Valkyrie and Automated overlord variants for the existing quests. We'll probably eventually end up getting the new Descent whatever it is, but have no plans to retiring D2E. I still think there is a market for more RTL campaigns (I know I'd buy them) but probably not too likely now given that FFG will want everyone to migrate to the new game.

NickelPlate reacted to AwesomeTree_in_the_Dark in Fun Facts in Descent
I was thinking about making this relaxing topic while we are all waiting for new FFG announcement. We all love Descent and there are some fun facts that are not well known if you don't own and know every possible Terrinoth game.
I will start with the 3 facts, feel free to share more and also react if you want to know more!
1) Did you know that Merriod appeared in the Runebound - The Island of Dread and looked like this?
2) Did you know that original tiles artwork contains unused artwork of magically locked doors and green water spaces on some tiles?
3) Did you know that even though most of the items from the first edition are included in the second edition, there are still some missing, like this talisman called "Beastman Fetish"? And also did you know that it was REALLY named like that?!
EDIT: See the comment bellow, it was also used on the hex tokens

NickelPlate reacted to Kaaihn in Mod for Descent: Road to Legends app
Lots of possibilities if you can mod the RtL app. Would it be possible to create new content and add it to the app this way? Instead of people having create a campaign in Valkyrie, could you adapt one of the standard campaigns to RtL play and load it into the app this way?
Separate from the work to convert the storylines and concepts and get it all plotted and written for how it should flow, do you have a feel for how much work it would take to code the content into a mod? Is it worth pursuing vs writing quests/campaigns in Valkyrie?

NickelPlate got a reaction from Nioreh in My cheap DIY storage solution
Greetings fellow Talisman fans,
I've been a long time Talisman fan since 2nd edition (I still have my copy) and just recently picked up all of the revised 4th stuff. I'm a big fan of simple, low cost, original box storage solutions that organize the game components for easy setup and play. I almost managed to fit everything into one box and am pretty pleased with the results and wanted to share. The box top doesn't quite seat all the way to the bottom but it isn't bad as the picture shows.
Materials required:
Cardboard Sharp utility knife Straight edge or triangle Glue (I used Elmer's) Tape measure or ruler
Sorry I just can't seem to make the insert image function work no matter what I try (links below).
As you can see, there is plenty of room left over after I made my cardboard dividers for more expansion cards, I would estimate two more expansions. All cards are sleeved with the Mini Chimera sleeves from Mayday Games. The cardboard dividers are 1-3/4" tall which is just enough room to protect the cards and provide a support structure for the game boards. I also made mini dividers to separate the dungeon, highland, purchase cards etc. You can even just use this as the draw box for all cards.
As an alternative, there is enough vertical space to stand the cards upright which also makes for more room for future expansion cards and other fiddly bits, but then the boards will have to fit in a separate box, and I'm not really crazy about carrying around 2 of the big boxes. I fit all of the minis in The Reaper box. I think there would be room to cram the minis in the left over space, but then no more room Sacred Pool and other expansions.
