Old Cycles being reprinted with 60 cards?
Penfold3 replied to EnigmaKnight's topic in CoC General Discussion
I don't think my math isn't wrong. When you look at any of their products, reprints or new cards there is nothing that I found that breaks down to less than $0.22 per card. Did you find something that does otherwise? I didn't look at every product. I have an ex that works in a printing company. The card stock, multiple colors, UV finish etc, that the cards have, plus the boxes, distribution etc, really puts the profit point at about $0.10 (so she says, I don't understand half the stuff she babbles about work). I think what she was saying there is that it takes at least ten cents to break even (or maybe it was nine cents) with everything over that as profit. If they are doing that, then 12 cents profit for card makes a lot of sense. They also need to price the addendum at a price where it encourages players to actually buy the Core Set for their first purchase rather than it. That pretty much guarantees that it would be costed at 50-75% more than a single Core Set, so MSRP would probably be $60 or more. I mean this part I get because it is Business 101. You don't create a competing product that drives down the sales of your front line product. Everything you produce in that line you want to drive up the sales (directly or indirectly) of your flagship product. At that price, you are still better off buying two core sets from a super cut-rate online retailer. -
Yeah, asking something on the forums will never get you an answer. I know they have a don't post on the forums policy, which explicitly disallows answering rules questions. If you submitted through the link below and you didn't get an answer in 2 weeks time I'd think about resubmitting it.

Sorry, I didn't look at the card, just teh original posters wording. Yes, because the "lose the game" effect is a passive, it must be in play for it to initiate and resolve, so if it is not in play, there is nothing to resolve.

As long as the plot is revealed.

Funky. Well it will be interesting to see if they continue with that. I was under the distinct impression from talking to them at Gencon that it was going to be entirely on the books. *shrug* I guess time will tell.

Old Cycles being reprinted with 60 cards?

Hate to say it but I think you are dreaming. You want all the CS cards x2, plus the ST cards for $35? Where is the benefit for FFG? Seriously, if it is not in their best interest financially it isn't going to be done. The cheapest MSRP they seem to print cards at is around the $0.22 mark per card. This includes reprints. You want 310 cards (I'm ignoring the OOtST), that is $70.31. You are better off buying two Core Sets from an online distributor. -
Ephraim said: I think the confusion with "You" in conspiracy cards is that they're laid out like a story card, and when you win a story and trigger the text, it affects both players. I asked this question here and sent it to FFG but havn't gotten an answer on it. I just had something answered two days ago. When did you send yours in?
-
Yep, and Nightmares and Milk, and any other dozen things on Mel... and Daven. *shrug* That is after all the game.
-
Thank you for the confirmation Ser.
-
But if no location effects had been triggered then the next one would be the first yes?
-
Daven is pretty awesome. I've always wanted to build a Lannister deck that basically lets me just buy the win. Spend my gold and win the game. I have no idea if it is possible, with Daven, but it will be a lot of fun to try and create a deck that will make it happen. It looks like I am a Shagga.

When I'm facing a control deck until the lock hits I usually feel like I am winning or will win. When the lock hits I usually know I hav e acard or two in my deck that will break the lock, I just need to get to them before my opponent wins. With Rush... well I'm not also playing rush I just have to hope to get the disrupting card in my opening hand, or that they don't get what they need in theirs. Hyper rush becomes a flip of the coin, a roll of the dice, immediately. Not saying anyone who sees it differently is wrong, just explaining why I feel hyper-control is more desirable than hyper-rush. Personally I think they both are equally non-interactive, once they hit their stride... the difference is the control takes about 2-3 turns to get into place, while the rush does it in one, and the game is over before the third challenge phase ends. -
So that doesn't refer to Sam's oldest child?

I think two is really all you need for most of the Core Sets to create a tier 1 deck in the LCG's... but if you want to create a very specific deck, you may want something x3. What we do is usually borrow a card or three before a tournament if it is really only one or two we need a playset of. If you plan on having a tier 1 deck for each faction in each LCG then the case for 3 Core Sets becomes *much* stronger.

Nothing really. The Core Sets seem to be priced the same way video game consoles are, at a minimum profit point with the idea of making up the money in increased sales of the games (cycle packs). I just don't see the idea of an expanded Core Set being particularly profitable for them. The point of the Core Set is two-fold I believe, offer an excellent out of the box game for super casual, more board game oriented players, and act as a base for deck building for the more serious card gamer. If you really want multiples of the cards then I imagine you'd be willing to pay for it. When you do the cost breakdown you still end up ahead by buying three core sets than if you were to have the buy the cards in a cycle, assuming The Professor's math was correct. -
Cool. Any sightings of Queen of Dragons yet?

Wait what characters is their LotR game inventing? I know the Gencon preview was not a finished game, but all the heroes were straight from the books, only the allies were generic characters, and presented as such. They didn't invent any new names for any of them. Have you got something that points out that they have changed this?

Tokhuah said: I believe the Azathoth ability is considered passive so it no longer has an effect if leaves play or is blanked. It isn't a passive. The Response once triggered creates a lasting effect. I don't believe it matters if Azzy is in play or not. If you didn't win, you lose.

The Chump's fury over the Furies - 2Champs1Chump Episode 16

In regards to the episode, I maintain that Lannister lost Compelled by the Rock not because FFG doesn't want Lanni to have attachment removal, but because it was the best attachment removal in the game for a house who was not intended to have that as its identity. I mean, look at the Crown of Meereen, it is essentially compelled made more scary, but for the most part people aren't condemning it the way they did compelled, because it is Targ and that is their thing. A few people said if The Laughin Storm had been printed as a MArtell or LAnnister card there would be little complaint about it because mastery of the intrigue challenge is sort of their thing. I think if compelled had just been a discard attachment effect it would have been fine. It was the stealing of the attachment for no cost that got it banned. -

BEcause every errata that is not meant for clarification is a hurdle that players have to get over to play the card correctly. When you start adding text, removing text, or completely changing text that changes teh way the card is played, both mechanically AND strategically, you push more casual players further out of the loop. Even those who come to the boards and download the FAQ but are not people who travel to Gencon, though they may play in their FLGS weekly/monthly GAoT league/tourney would qualify as a casual player. There are a number of people, like on BGG for example, who just dismiss games when they find that there is a lot of errata that effectively changes the way a card is played. Errata and Banning are undesirable at every level, but high level tournament players are going to be far more accepting of it than others will. A restricted list of this type can easily be seen as a deck building restriction, and is much easier to explain and to accept at all levels of play. As to the list not doing anything to restrict the power level of the individual cards... you are right, but all the cards on the list ar eones that people are arguing on about the balance level of the individual cards. If the most invested and engaged players can't agree I'd say that it may be much a more an impression of the local meta or personal playstyle that is informing the feelings on the cards. Balancing the game itself is more important to me than trying to balance a card we the players can't agree on being too powerful for the game. -

Still listening, but I have to say I disagree with some of the assumptions being made about the restricted list. I don't see a problem with a large restricted list. I also don't see where someone having a choice between a perfectly fresh piece of fruit and an overripe piece of fruit is a false choice. If I'm making banana bread, I don't want a nice ripe banana, I want one that is overly ripe. The flavor stands up better to the baking. If I'm not making banana bread then sure that may be a choice I never make, but I have a choice. If returning a character to hand makes more sense for my deck than killing a 2 STR character I will choose the Fury of the Sun over Venomous Blade. I'm not sure what deck that may be... but I also don't know what cards are coming down the pike. People talk about the restricted list as essentially banning certain cards, and they present it as a negative, I'm not sure it is. We've been talking about rotation, and banning this or errata-ing that, so putting cards on the restricted list may essentially create the very rotation or spot banning people were contemplating. -
Check with the artists directly. A lot have high-res images in their portfolios that would work.

As long as this game has been around there have been people asking for new houses. I heard a rumor that at one point FFG had considered introducing Tyrells or Arryns (which it was is a little foggy), but when they floated the idea to GRRM he said if they were going to add a sixth house (this was after Targ and Greyjoy had been introduced already) that it should definitely be Martell. That gave us our six. And ever since then people have clamored for a seventh, an eighth, and even a ninth. This has been going on for years. To save yourself disappointment you should probably expect the playable houses to be these 6 with everything else being either neutral, in another house, or a dual house card of two existing factions. Not to say it couldn't ever happen, but there has been no indication of consideration beyond these six in years.

That is about the cost of a championship deck in MTG bought a la carte. If they do reprint the oldest stuff when they run out I think we can expect them to be in the new distribution, which would make things cheaper for new players wanting to get in and own everything.
