  1. great site! can i use the Leadership / Lore (Journey) and Tactics / Spirit (Escape from Dol Goldur) to play "Journey..." scenario? im going to play again tonight and i would like to try these decks and also richsabre's. Thanks!
  2. thanks!! what a great reply! ill try that ASAP and see how it goes:) thanks again!
  3. Hey there guys I bought this game (Core Set only) recently and ive managed to play 5 games already with another friend. im amazed on how much we love to play this game! it was really a surprise!!! Anyway, the first two were easy wins against the first scenario, each of us playing with only one symbol at a time just to feel each deck. Then, we moved to Journey through the Anduin (?), mixed our decks but, after 3 games, i must say we havent been successful at all. We've tried 3 different decks with different combinations, each time improving our score (our last sets were Eowyn / Theodred / Eleanor and Gimli / Legolas / Denethor). I also tried Dunhere but it takes a lot of time to kill something i believe and i prefer to have other heroes... The thing is, while i really believe we can win with these heroes, i feel like both decks (50 cards each) are lacking allies, specially if we consider that this scenario has a lot of enemies, with several surge cards and the fact that during stage 2 we draw 3 cards instead of 2. Considering this, i was wondering if you could give me some advice on how to build decks with only 1 core set and also which combinations of heroes are better, again with only the core set thanks!
  4. Hey there Considering Ungoliath, now i get it and fortunatelly, i've played it correctly, since i 've done that: i took it from the discard pile and placed it in play. i thought that i had to shuffle it again in the deck Now that i see my second question, i realize that that wasnt my real question, since there are some aspects of it that are easy to understand, but since you gave me an amazing answer, ie that covered every aspect, i know now the answer to my real question:) Considering engaging i still dont get it when i compare Forest Spiders and Hummerhorns: the rulebook states everything you mentioned. The thing is, i consider Hummerhorns to have a significantly different text from everybody else but, from your answer, i suspect that im doing it wrong. In this case how can one defeat Hummerhorn without losing a hero (5 points of damage usually kills a hero)? thanks
  5. When you say "draw her out" do you mean: a) pick it from the discard pile and reshuffle it on the deck or b) wait until the deck is over and shuffle the discard pile as the new deck? Another questions that arose during today's match - lets say that that Treachery that deals 1 dmg to every character that commited to a quest and i have, lets say, Daughter of the Nimrodel committed. Can i save her, ie, since a action can be taken right afterwards can i save her with her ability? - A hero is a character? i understand that an ally is everything but a character but im not sure if a hero is also a character - Engaging - what's the difference between Forest Spider and Hummerhorns? the spider says "after spider engages a player" and the hummerhorns says "after hummerhorns engages you"…does this mean that if i decide to engage the hummerhorns they dont deal 5 additional damage but it doesnt matter if im the one to engage the spider or the other way around? Thanks!
  6. hello we played our first game last night (easiest scenario without shadow cards) and we had some issues i would like to clarify - Ungoliant - Ungoliant came out before the final phase (on phase 1) of the scenario and we were able to kill it / her in 2 turns. How does it work afterwards? Does the game end automatically when we arrive at phase 3? does it "come back to life" in the final phase of the scenario? we're really puzzled with this since the rulebook states that "all the cards" with the arachnid logo must be included in the deck - Eowyn - can both players discard any number of cards per turn or only 1 each in order to activate her ability? - Deck - how many cards can one player have in his / her deck? is there a limit? - Hand limit - how many cards can one player have at any given moment in his / her hand? One final question…do you recommend mixing icons (Spirit, Ledership, etc) in one deck for beginners? im asking this because i dont know if playing with just one icon is strong enough to defeat, lets say, the final scenario of the core set. What do you think? Thanks in advance bruno
  7. yes, i've picked that up during the match: it's a risk when you're the only one that knows the rules. But we managed to play some turns with that right
  8. thanks a lot! and yes, by round i meant turn sorry:) one other thing…when playing with 4 players, one must choose 2 strategy cards but can only choose one to play that round correct? since everybody picked 2, how do i check initiative order? Seeing the lower number each player has? Example: i chose card 3 and 7. my iniative order is 3rd (supposing both 1 and 2 were picked obviously)? thanks
  9. Hello guys our group is getting ready for our first match tomorrow night (finally). While we were reading the rules, some questions and doubts came across and we want to make sure that we have the best experience possible:) So here are the questions. a) The first person that gets the speaker token is chosen randomly correct? the only way to change hands is via the Initiative strategy card? b) At the end of the turn, i only get 2 used command counters (from the command pool) from the ones i've spent, even if i had 1 million? c) Can someone bribe another player just to negotiate a trade contract? i get that the active player can be bribed, but why wouldn't a Mentak player (trade contract 1) bribe a Hacan (trade contract 3) player to get his contract? Hacan would be much better with other contract but they could be persuade d) Can a player try to execute every secondary ability played in a turn with the Initiative Strategy card for free? e) just to see if i got it right….every round you choose either a) strategy b) action c) transfer or d) pass. if you choose a), b) and c), you get to play again after every player has played in that round and until you choose d) correct? Now i would like to ask for your advise. I own both the original game and Shattered Empires. - Which combination of Strategy Cards do you think works better for a first match? I don't want to use the Imperial one that comes with the original game. - Im thinking in using the following additional rules for our first match: a) Heroes (characters tend to add a bit of flavour to every game) b) Sabotage run (who doesnt want to be Luke ) c) Race techs d) Facilities e) Custodians im still thinking if i want to add the following ones: distant suns, shock troopers and age of empires. Do you think it's a good mix for the first match? can you tell me if the distant suns option is a good choice for my first match? what about age of empires? Thanks a lot for your advises

  11. Hi Your stronghold doesn't add any income. only cities, cards, bribes…
  12. hi don't know about that version, but the "new one" is my favourite boardgame! So if you like that version im sure you will love this one:) Bruno
  13. Hey there! page 5 of the rules (statement 11) states that "a stronghold may be placed in any kingdom area that does not contain an unrazed city or another stronghold". so, in your case, you only get 400 from your stronghold, since you cant place your base in a city. hope it helps Bruno
  14. Now that you mention it, it isn't clear.... To me, it would make sense that only tied Barons could have the chance to win with that condition. However, the rules state that "the Baron who controls the most cities wins". It doesn't say, "considering only the tied Barons....", so i would apply this rule to every Baron. I think there is another condition that can clarify this a bit better (same paragraph): "...then the Baron with the most troops on the board wins". This is the last possible victory condition presented. As you can see, it states "on the board", which means that the strongest Baron in play wins, whether it was eligible to win according to other victory conditions or not. So, applying the same procedure to the other conditions, i would apply every victory condition to everyone In the end, i think that every time there's a draw, the following condition applies to everyone. It's not sequential. So, in your game, you would be the winner:) hope it helped
  15. thanks for you reply! im gonna make sure i make thoses chapters my next purchases:) btw, i saw that the deck can be built around 3 different kings....im building my around Renly, as mentioned in the package. is it the best choice? thanks
