I don't necessarily think the end of WHFB or 9th edition being up in the air means that FFG will shelve Diskwars.  I don't believe that FFG would need to move Diskwars in the same direction that WHFB is going.  I saw that they are releasing a new video game for WHFB (Total War).  This game does not follow the new storyline set up from 9th edition (at least it looks that way from what I saw from the previews).  So why say that Diskwars will rise and fall based on if there is a 9th edition or not? As a matter of fact, I wouldn't want them to move Diskwars in the same direction.  I think this new stuff for WHFB is absolutely stupid.

I periodically check in on this as well. It really pisses me off that GW ditched the Old World for the crap that is Age of Sigmar. I didn't think FFG would do the same.

Yeah...I was hoping for something this year too. They'll eventually come out with expansions to flesh out the remaining factions probably next year. That would seem to fit with their release schedule for other WFB properties (like Blood Bowl). What I'm more worried about is will they continue to release new stuff after they've fleshed out all of the armies. There are still so many great units to release (Skarsnik and Gobbla, Korhil, White Lions just to name a few).

Can you use the promo terrain (Tower of Sorcery, Herdstone) as terrain pieces that can be picked in a game, or can you only use them with their special scenarios?

For other games they discontinued (Warhammer: Invasion, Tannhäuser) they did just that. Moreover they announced the end of the line while announcing the release of the final expansion. We don't have any reason to think it would be different for Warhammer: Diskwars when it will be discontinued, which at the moment is not.

As MechaBri.Zilla wrote somewhere else (sorry man, can't remember where), many made the mistake to consider Warhammer: Diskwars akin to a Living Card Game (or to X-Wing) and drew the erroneous conclusion that it would receive the same amount of support those kind of games have, with frequent expansions and such.
Well, this isn't going to happen. Maybe it would have happened if it had a more vibrant competitive scene, but FFG found it didn't and decided to cut the support for tournament play. That's it. But no support for tournament play doesn't mean no more Diskwars, just that we'll have to wait.

We'll have new expansions when the new expansions come out. No sooner, no later.

It is at least another proof that the "GW will force FFG to ditch anything related to the old Warhammer setting because of Age of Sigmar"  fear was senseless.

As a big fan of the old Warhammer Quest, I'm going to keep an eye on this game for sure... meanwhile I'm continuing to wait for new Diskwars expansions despite all the (useless IMHO) doom and gloom.

Yes!!! Don't know how many of you were a fan of this when GW had it as a board game, but I can't wait for this.  It also seems that FFG is sticking with the "traditional" Warhammer universe...so maybe this bodes well for Diskwars.

    Lepusek,

you scored a very good point. When I was watching this year's InFlight report, when Chris said "we started with Diskwars" I thought "and here we go with a new expansion, finally". Nothing, instead.

Still, I hope in good news in the coming months!

Well, now we know that old world games are still a thing.  I think this bodes very well for Diskwars, assuming that Diskwars can make FFG some money.

That said, Warhammer Quest looks pretty solid.  I'll be looking forward to this one.

This is the real Warhammer world, yes?

Actual lore, the Empire, elves and orcs and ogres and dwarves and everything called by their real names, not the new ones?

Not the SpaceMarine-infested garbage of 'Age of Sigmar'?

    Count me in.

I played the hell out of Warhammer Quest back in the 90's.

I think every single time GW releases a new edition or rulebook there are complaints regarding the rules and the balance.  That is one reason I play diskwars and not the GW original.

    Well, that and the price.

Well, that and the price and the power creep.

I hope Warhammer Diskwars will continue to receive some kind of support. Not much, at least to flesh out the four remaining armies (and for the sake of completeness give each of the four core armies a terrain element wiht a dedicated special rule, like the Dwarf Forge or the Garden of Morr).

I hope the reason we haven't seen any new content for Warhammer: Diskwars in one year is to be ascribed solely to FFG sales evaluations and release policies. If, based on the lack of appeal of competive play, FFG decided to slow down the release of new Warhammer: Diskwars in order to dedicate themselves to products they find more profitable I can say I'm fine with that. I'm not happy, of course, but I can at least understand the reason why.

I hope (though I find it really unlikely) that, if Warhammer: Diskwars will not be discontinued, FFG won't include any of the Age of Sigmar stuff. Pseudo-Space Marines with big hammers? Not in my Warhammer, thanks.

I fear, though, that FFG will discontinue the Warhammer: Diskwars line because it won't be related to the "official" Warhammer anymore. If that would be the case, I will be really sad. I don't know the details of the license agreement between FFG and GW, but to me it seems really dumb if FFG accepted a license through which they would be able to make a Warhammer-based game knowing they had a time limit after which they had to discontinue the line because of the new Warhammer. Still, GW is known for its monopolistic view and its... "unfriendly" behavior against any potential competitor, so I will not be surprised if that's the reason we won't be having any more Warhammer: Diskwars products (which is, by the way, an event that may happen as likely as it won't: we sitll have no proof either for or against it).

Considering what is happening on the video game front. Vermintide and Total War Warhammer both set in the Warhammer Fantasy world we know. I don't see Age of Sigmar as blocking new Diskwars content. It might or might not be a good move by GW to get fresh blood into the beast that was Warhammer Fantasy but it will probably not, if ever, affect Diskwars until the new material has settled.
I love Warhammer Diskwars, but I get the feeling it didn't survive in the Shadow of X-wing/Armada. But I would welcome any new content for this game. It has been a gift to the surpessed wargamer in me.

I don't know if everybody has seen the previews for Warhammer: Age of Sigmar (i.e.-9th ed.).  This is a completely different Warhammer world folks.  So my question is: how does this affect Diskwars? Will GW force FFG to "re-create" Diskwars to represent the new (and in my opinion, lame) Warhammer World, or will they give FFG the freedom to continue making Diskwars that line up with the Old Wahammer World (the one that I love)? Or will they simply just discontinue Diskwars? Thoughts? Opinions?

I hope that they will stick with the old fluff and continue to produce based on that. The new stuff is extremely lackluster in my opinion--it feels like jumping the shark, or hitting the "alternate-timeline" reset button ala new Star Trek.  Additionally, the current army design and split between order and destruction doesn't match the new fluff very well and would have to be reworked or given a whole new army-building ruleset.

Frankly, the 9th edition stuff is not very well done, and leaves you wondering if GW will even continue to support Warhammer Fantasy at all since they have officially killed the universe as of now.  This has been discussed in detail elsewhere on these forums, but I can't resist complaining again.  Anything that lumps High Elves and Dark Elves into one faction and declares that Malekith is actually the Phoenix King but is just sad and misunderstood gets my blood boiling.

That said, if it was the only way I could possibly get a new expansion, I would take it, bad writing and convoluted plot notwithstanding.

I agree the cost is prohibitive, especially if you want to pursue any other hobbies.  That was what has always kept me from buying in wholesale.

Also, as you pointed out, the handling of the Elves pretty much makes everything Elf players held dear into a joke, whether you were a supporter of the Druchii, Asur, or Asrai--the result is more or less unrecognizable or completely ridiculous from all perspectives.  The first time I read an overview of spoilers form the story line I literally thought some fan of another race was making it all up on the forums just to make all of the Elf players angry.

Only then it was all true...

I think the big problem is (and I don't speak for the whole WHFB community) is the cost of the game. If GW would stop charging outrageous prices for the minis and books more people might buy or stay in the game.

Holy cow! I just read some of the material on End Times.  WHFB is becoming really lame (The whole story so far is just stupid!).  I am very disappointed.  It makes me glad that I got out of the game 3-4 years ago.  I hope Diskwars does not go this direction.

The main reason I left was the ridiculous cost of the game.  For me, it was either play 1.) WHFB or 2.) other games that I liked.  I went with option #2.  The rules weren't the greatest in the world, but I could live with them.  I've always liked the fluff and I agree with you that not everything in the End Times storyline is bad (the Nagash idea isn't bad).  But when I read the stuff about the Elves (who are my favorite race in the Warhammer World)...c'mon! They've blurred the lines between good and evil beyond recognition.
