If You look at all of the futuristic stories of the past they will all be the same in one -- they greatly overestimate human progress.
As we didn't have flying cars and hoverboards in 2015 as Doc Emmet Brown showed us; We had no intelligent robot uprisings in 2008 as Asimov wrote; Cyberpunk 2077 was called 2020 once, it was changed when it became obvious that in three years we couldn't progress that much; 2000AD franchise looks way different from our real 2000 AD... and so on, and so on...

Warhammer is probably the only different though, it shows You that for every step further humanity sometimes takes at least one step back, that not everything is perfect and definitely not everyone is "good". That way I think that WH40K is actually realistic (or at least more realistic than any mass effect or star trek could ever be). And I like it.

    Hi all,

Thanks to those of you who have contacted me regarding the roll for heresy website being down. Apologies for not getting back to you sooner, I've been busy with some exams before I head home for Christmas and my attempts to contact the site owner haven't been successful.

Thankfully one of his group have mentioned what's going on over on reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/40krpg/comments/5h36ji/what_happened_to_rollforheresynet/

The website isn't up at the moment so I'm presuming he hasn't had the time to get it up and running yet. Hopefully it will be resolved soon, this time of year is usually a busy one. If I hear anything soon I'll get back to you, unfortunately right now I'm in the dark as much as you are.

Until then, may you burn many heretics to keep warm this Christmas.

Good news, everyone: the 40kRP Armory has been updated to include Dark Heresy Second Edition!
    www.mediafire.com/folder/i3akv9qx9q05z
For those of you who aren't already familiar with the Armory, it's designed to be a compiled quick reference for equipment across all six 40k RPG systems - you can use it to find basic information on gear that matches what you're looking for, then refer to the source rulebook for the full description.
Credits: unnownrelic and eBarbarossa for their previous work on the Armory, and of course FFG for creating some of my favorite roleplaying games.

In response to this thread, I've endeavored to flesh out a Rogue Trader in Dark Heresy 2nd Edition format. So far, here's what I have. The way I see it, seperating the Warrant of Trade and the Dynasty Aspect of the Rogue Trader works the best. Feel free to discuss pros or cons Shadow.

    Navis Nobilite Background

A PC with the mutant background starts with 10 corruption.
A psyker PC gets 1d10+3 corruption points the instant they take the elite advance, unless they are sanctioned.

Yet the exorcized background comes with 0 cp. Stranger still is the malignancy, something that can only come from corruption that the exorcized PC lacks.

Yeah, you're making no sense now.  For one, the mechanics are supposed to represent your 'context.'  That isn't happening, which is a problem.

This isn't bananas to shotguns, it is the Background not matching the setting or the set-down rules.  They implicitly contradict each other.  This suggests one of them is wrong.  The Background doesn't do what the rest of the rules say is supposed to happen, so it is pretty easy to figure out which one is wrong.

Having an immunity to Corruption is different from removing it.  That is the quote from the book on Removing Corruption, not Gaining Corruption.  Some folks can be 'immune,' yes (keep in mind the Sister's Corruption goes straight into Insanity as well, they don't get off for nothing).  Just because they have a God-Emperor-given Teflon Soul Coat doesn't mean your normal materials (everybody else) won't stain.

Answer me this.  How does getting Possessed without any 'protections' from Corruption (you can't combine a Sororitas and Exorcised Background) not get you Corruption?  Keep in mind, the minimum Corruption from being Possessed is 12 to 30, not including any collected Corruption from before you're Exorcised.  If you can't answer that, perhaps tell me how you cleanse 12-30 Corruption from someone when the book explicitly states you're lucky to purge 1 or 2 Corruption per campaign?

This isn't a matter of context.  It is a glaring error, the only one I've found with an otherwise enjoyable book.

Whether it happened pre-game or in-game is irrelevant IMO. It's the same experience! Further, For your character to have been through this pre-gen suggests nothing short of a Miracle! (Sort of like a first lvl character having survived a Dragon attack in their back story at 1st lvl!). I agree. Should have been an Elite advance!

Resolving the issue seems fairly simple though:

    Excorsized: (Elite advance)

Prerequisite: Must have been posessed and then Excorsized from Demon

Benefits: Add all benefits and penalties from both new background and in-game version.

Cost: 300xp (Represents the Acolyte having taken time to learn and understand what happened to them and how to turn it to a positive.

Alex Cube reacted to enentol in The Mission Hub: Building Players a Home
    EDIT: New version below!

A common problem that has plagued many of my games, as well as those of my friends, is the issue of how to manage downtime – the awkward pauses between missions and adventures. Often, players feel forced into narrative and social situations without the feeling of any real, lasting impact.

I was really unsure of whether to post this topic in House Rules or General Discussion, but as I didn't actually make any new mechanics myself, I figured it was better suited here. Additionally, the larger discussions about managing player downtime, creating social interactions, and building player "bases" would probably find a better audience here.

    The Mission Hub:

I started toying with the idea of a meaningful, mechanically-impactful mission “hub” that would help utilize player downtime, foster socialization, and create a few alternative goals for players to keep in mind during their adventures. The hub that I created quickly allowed my players to create and build relationships (inter-player as well as with NPCs) and develop and pursue new side-missions.

Additionally, as you’ll hopefully see, this hub also served to help contextualize Second Edition’s new Influence mechanics – inspiring players to pursue Influence generation and flesh out Reinforcement options.

For my players, their hub has reinforced the feeling of a living, breathing game-world and has fostered a true feeling of freedom and player agency.

I figured that I would share the details with you. A PDF document is found in the link below.

This document includes a narrative overview of the hub that I’ve created, a few sample locations, as well as a few sample characters to populate these spaces. I've also included a few tips and ideas for GMs on how to best use these spaces and how player interaction with these areas can create lasting impacts to gameplay.

    Download:

I’m not sure if you can attach files to a post, so I’ve provided a Dropbox link. I’ve made the document into a handy, printable, booklet-type format.

Any comments, feedback, or discussion is much appreciated.

Don't get me wrong with RT. I love RT - it is a great line with a different feeling than DH.

BUT. Rules-wise, it has a big overlap (if you subtract the voidship rules), and it only thins out the existing lines if you create more and more. And you avoid redundancy (or worse, inconsistancies)

If you add just a handful of things, you could easily merge it:
    > Voidship components and requisition of these ships/parts (take existing lists from RT and add some Askellon flavour to it)
    > Voiship combat (could be taken nearly 1:1 out of RT, if too lazy to rework it )
    > A Commander role
    > A Navigator role or Elite class (IF you keep Navigators at all...to be honest I never really understood why such precious assets risk their lives outside of a ship EVER; and Navigator-only-action tends to bore the other players)
    > a handful sanctioned Xenos classes for those who like it (esp. Kroot Mercenary, Ork Freebooter, and maybe a Dark Eldar, Eldar Ranger and/or a Tau)

This would easily allow to play RT with the DH rules, and it would even provide cool stuff from DH for your RT campaign.

And it very well should be possible to put it into a book of around 150 pages, if you keep the fluff at bay.

    Lets sign a petition ;D

I also love WH40k and would love to see at least 2-3 more publications after enemies beyond before the line is finished (especially books about the sector, a bestiary and a book about the various Adepta would be nice, maybe even a new adventure book ?). The line would really deserve it.

I don't think it would make much sense to make a second editions of all lines, as Black Crusade and Only War are quite up to date still.

Regarding Rogue Trader, I was never a big fan of separating it from Dark Heresy rules-wise, as it has great similarities in the power level, enemies etc. - it could be sufficient to make 1 Dark Heresy 2 expansion that focusses on Rogue Traders and void ships (incl. void ship combat). It would be an elegant way to merge the lines.

Deathwatch would be the only one, which I'd personally would like to see a second edition of.

    Okay that's the basic announcement.

    Two other Corollaries:

A:  I'm not posting the sheet for download until I have some more editing on the HA items.
I want people to look over the notes and see what I've missed, and especially what
flavor text needs to be there (such as the -5 morale, or +20 to WT encounters, etc.)

    B. There are other items in there, not just Hostile Acq. I'd like to include other reasonably reputable
homebrew ship components in the list. I should reorder the tables such that HA comes first.
That's why I was asking the other day for lists of other ship components.

I wish I could totally fix BobH's excellent sheet. But his coding is complex, and dependent.
Do you know that my HA table was the first named thing in the sheet ?
All of his codes are from memory, and and all his references were hard-coded,
so if you add line, you mess up the sheet.
The fact that the sheet works at all is a testament to his genius, but if you know anything about excel,
looking at his formulas was a nightmare. (at least to me) and I take it that since no-one else
has jumped up with a fixed file, I take it I'm not alone in that feel.

Here's the list of junk please look over it. thanks. comments desired.

I may be playing the devils advocate here but I have to warn You (and FFG too) that incorporating that much stuff into the app without any checking for if the owner of the app actually owns the sourcebook in question may seriously affect the sells of said sourcebooks which cost more than said app, especially if, for example, for existing characters Enemies Withing gives nothing but fluff and gear, and You basically give them all that gear from extra sourcebooks for a much lower cost.

Silly as it may sound, still a perfectly legal character concept, and extremely allaround powerful also.
    Per RAW:
Can outperform any other character in social interaction four to five times per game session by spending a fate point and getting auto-success with WPB degrees of success on Charm/Command/Intimidate tests no matter how hard the test actually is, thanks to mechanicus background has more access (+20 to +40 to tests depending on base availability) to cybernetics and the rarer they are the bigger the bonus, meaning high-end cybernetics like Cerebral Implants and Synthmuscle Grafts are much more easier to get, plus possibly the best starting gear there is in terms of rarity which means in can be traded for whatever needed, as Psyker has access to cheaper Willpower advances that will do actually even more by adding to social interaction thanks to WPB degrees of success thing mentioned earlier beyond the benefits of "just being a Psyker", and when character screws up he pays less Influence for that, meaning he is probably the first one to get enough Influence to become an Inquisitor in the long run, also meaning having the highest "buying capability" to get additionaly buffed up by some good gear.

Add Infused Knowledge talent as cherry on top and there You have it -- a perfect... gamebreaker

    Any thoughts on this matter?
