  1. Also, the merchant Klaus Von Rothstein, i think is a reference to the Gangster of 1920's (also appears in Boardwalk Empire). In WFRP, Klaus seems to be morally flexible since he allied himself with the Saponatheim (in Edge of Night); am sure it's a coincidence but in Boardwalk Empire there is another character named Kessler who is German. (Eddie Kessler. Nucky's bumbling and often overwhelmed German assistant and butler. It was weird watching a saw and seeing WFRP names here and there.
  2. You will be amazed at how many puns fly over our heads. Edge of Night Bretonian named Something De Cadance I've seen a lady (bretonian) named Something De Bauchery From TEW Luigi Pavarotti (does he have a brother?), Edam Gooda aka The Big Cheese, Salahd Bar. Von Jungfreud are a pun on psychologists Jung and Freud Gathering Storm: Jungfreud appointed Adler in Stromdorf. according to wikipedia "Adler is considered, along with Freud and Jung the fathers of Depth Psychology Dying of the Light' - a demon named Zahnarzt (dentist in German) Even midenheim is a pun. The whole city looks like a giant toilet. and some lizardmen names from WFB: Xilicuncani (chili con carne), Xhilipepa (chili pepper), Manquoxutni (mango chutney).
  3. Just for the record, Blood on The Reik was not much useful. It mostly has pencil drawings with lots of notes ON the drawings. Nice to look at, but not suitable for blog use as a way to set the theme.
  4. page 40, Gudrun Ensslin - Innkeeper last paragraph 'Gudrun's activities have left him vulnerable. Victimising Strigany is one thing, but murdering priests in quite another.' D'oh, I figured it out as I was typing it. The reference is for Shallyan's. Not the sigmarite priest. Sorry!
  5. 'Evil GM' you said. My players always say, that the GM is supposed to be the 'evil idiot'
  6. I was hoping on a generalised solution on cards similar to robust. It's just that the 'robust' card came up at our session and that is why I used this particular card as an example. I am thinking of just letting the card (and similar cards) be used as the PC planned to. I want to avoid 'houseruling' as much as possible. Also, this question got answers from the whole spectrum of possible answers, from 'Don't let them use it', to 'they are using the rule as intended' and everything in between. So I guess the problem I encounter is subjective and for some people not a problem at all.
  7. Although it was not stated in Edge of Night (or any official 3rd edition book) yet, the way I described (through NPC) my PCs expect that Jungfreuds are the bad guys. They did a little research of the nobility at the Red Moon Inn (also known as Sailor's Moon in my campaign (yeah, bad pun, I know) and I (ie various NPCs) just told them the facts, without implying anything. (Jungfreud's losing their status and favor of the emperor, Jungfreuds causing trouble (and almost civil war) with Auverland , Jungfreuds ultimately being involved indirectly with most major noble house (Brunner's through Agnetha Brunner), influence in Stromdorf's, influence with Saponatheims (Olga is the mother of the visiting Saponatheim). Those facts, made the PCs very suspicious towards the Jungfreuds and figured that that they are going to be the bad guys. So, without me planning to do it this way, I will have to make them the evil masterminds. (following the RPG axiom, if there are three suspects, the one who is truly guilty should be the one that the PCs suspect) So, after edge of night, it's only logical that Jungfreunds will have to antagonize the patron that will be chosen by the NPCs. (however I was planning on starting TEW adventure after this, taking the NPCs far away from Ubersreik. Perhaps they can return after some time in Ubersreik and came face to face with some disturbing changes (wow, that will sound like the 'Cleansing of Shire'). Overall I am very satifisfied with how my WFRP 3d edition is evolving. I was not expecting to become so politics-oriented. I was planning for a simple 'bloodbath of the day adventure', and up to the end of TGS it was like that. But afterwards, when the PCs returned to Ubersreik it's been very social-themed. I had my reservations, because the players are more Roll-players than Role-Players, but the flavor and theme of WFRP is so engrossing, that I doubt they realise that they had 2 consecutive sessions without any battles at all.
  8. Haha, I thought it had something to do with 'Sap on a theme' or something.
  9. A player asked me if he can take the Robust talent and socket it in the party sheet. The way he wanted to use the card was this. Every night, he would insert it in the party slot, so they can get a reduction in the severity of their criticals, come morning, they change the robust ability with a more appropriate one, prefereable a combat specific talent. I am not sure if this is abusing or not. First, it's well within the rules (unless I am mistaken), and second the characters 'wastes' an advance for it. And thirdly, well, that's how the card is supposed to work right? But on the other hand it feels wrong, to be able to change the card on the fly (because of story mode), almost like getting a free reduction in severity in their criticals (and that's for the whole group), while treating them. Perhaps it's just me, because I like the idea of having the criticals stick with the players for a long time. What are your thoughts on this from a vanilla WFRP perspective? (I dislike houserules)
  10. Similar to this thread, http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_foros_discusion.asp?efid=165&efcid=3&efidt=411294&efpag=0#413314 I am trying to figure how Edge of Night's Sigmund (?) von Saponatheim is related to TEW's Bogenhafen ruler, Graf Wilhelm von Saponatheim. His mother is also a Jungefreud named Olga. His profile says that if Sigmund is asked about Bogenhafen, he states that he rarely visits the town. Why? Also, by googling 'Baron Von Saponatheim', I found out that the name itself is a pun, which becomes clearer if you say it 10 times. Anyone care to enlighten me on the pun, because I fail to see it.

(And actually start a game.) Actually I now got even more questions, but that's ok. It seems I am more intersted in the history of Jungfreuds than my players. I suppose they can roleplay their ignorance as their character's ignorance and general confusion regarding large noble houses. However your summary provided my with enough adventure seeds to use during Edge of Night. By the way, which books are you refering too? Sigmar's heir?

The NPCs will be presented as above and my chapter notes will contain details on any special rules or how things are adapted to 3rd ed. I won't be formatting it or editing it with release in mind. I'll just release it as is. You'll likely be crucified in here, if people knew you had 3rd edition converted, and didn't upload it... Never played TTT, but looking forward to seeing TEW converted. Add me to the list of people waiting for your TEW release. In fact I am going to delay starting my TEW campaign until you upload your notes!
  13. Great. I had forgotten about that book. Wasn't this book compiled from scrapped artwork for the Warhammer MMO?
  14. That looks fabulous. I envy. I don't have enough free time to even read the fluff of Signs of Faith and Winds of Magic. I just read the rules and the adventures and that's it. I can only wish that in a year or so, enough people will have followed your example and we might have a complete database of the 3rd edition equivalent of NPC for the major 1st/2nd edition campaings such as TEW and TTT
  15. Actually what he means is that if he goes with option 2, he has to buy 3 books. GM Guide, Player's Guide, Bestiary Guide. While, if he got one of those 40k rpg books, he would only have to buy 1 book, containing all the PC rules, GM info, and Creature stats. I think he has a point.
  16. Yeah, I missposted it here. I made a 'report this post' and asked to be moved to GM forum. Hopefully it will be moved soon.
  17. Anyone played this adventure? My group is getting ready to start this tomorrow. I briefly read it once so far, and I get the feeling that there is something missing (editing is not one of FFG's strengths). The Sigmarite priest of Hugeldal, together with a few villagers, left Hugeldal to fight beastmen. There is no mention of his success of failure, but there are a few strange clues left in the adventure that make no sense. 1. The dwarves of the dwarf district feel ashamed that didn't help him, and also feel lucky that they didn't join a 'failed' expendition. 2. It is mentioned that the doctor knows that the tavern keeper killed the Sigmatire priest, and therefore can somehow control him. Did I miss something? Nowhere else was it mentioned that the expendition failed. Also, HOW and WHY did the tavernkeeper kill the Priest?
  18. Thanks for your replies. But you misunderstood me. Official Artwork is mostly Large scale combat, or fight scenes. I am looking for day-to-day life in Empire cities or villages. Pictures or artwork of civilians drinking in pubs, or villagers forming an angry mob. Pictures of dirty travellers riding coaches. That sort of stuff. Best thing I could do so far was open my few pdfs and use 'print screen' to capture a few of the pictures in those. But pdfs cost money and I have alread exhausted my repertoir. edit: hm, a few of the art sites on kevalahammer are actually low-key drawings. They might work!
  19. was it easy playing TTT as a 3rd edition system? How did you convert the enemies?
  20. No, really I tried. I wanted an image for the mob that drives the PCs away from altdorf and the best I got was a monty python's image of 'burn the witch'. [also tried your page, nice one, but it's geared towards enemies. I am looking more for scenery images]
  21. I was reading the Signs of Faith adventure recently. Horror at Hugeldal. In the very beginning of the adventure there is a trap. I don't have the book in front of me right now, but I think it goes something like this. The trap is 'caltrops on the road'. First the adventurers make an observation check to spot a trail. If they succeed they spot the trail and proceed. If they dont, the still find the trail, but fail to spot the 'caltrops trap'. Then they roll another observation check. If the previous observation spot failed, they add another purple die. Failing the second check means that they step on the caltrops. They take wounds (or fatigue, can't remember) and also roll a disease check because the caltrops were covered in filth. When I get back home, I will post a more detailed description of the trap.
  22. I am struggling to find images to use in my WFRP blog. Most Warhammer image (drawings) are those of large scale battles. I am looking more low-key images (not necessarily from a Warhammer source, but with a Warhammer feel). For instance I want angry, dirty villagers. Artwork of scenes in a Tavern. Scenery. Villages and Towns with a gothic feel. I tried searching photobucket's image repository for images with similar tags, but all I get is either models of WFB or screenshots from the MMO Thanks!
  23. I propose (and this is the order of the adventures I played) 1. A day late and a shilling short It's a demo. Nice to get the hang of it the combat and social actions 2. Eye for an eye. Don't worry, there are a lot of fights. 2 beastmen fights and one fight with cultists. (after this I played 'Rough Night at 3 feathers inn'. This is a 2nd edition adventure, but it was rather easy to convert to 3rd edition. Not sure if I should propose this to new GMs). 3. Gathering Storm. Lots of (deadly) fights. 4. I started Edge of Night, but because of the slow start (getting to know with the nobles), I mxed it with Horror at Hugeldal (signs of faith adventure). Note that Edge of Night is heavy on social combat. After this I plan to play the Winds of Magic adventure and then I will try my converting skills on The Enemy Within campaign.
  24. Spivo said: You've put him slightly in a corner, the corner being a very bitter and hatefull man, hatefull towards evil. This leaves very little room for any "fun". It's good to have a goal, but without any bright moments wont it get quite depressing, I'd say, to play? This combined with low fellowship really sets a very grim mood. I can't think of me having a character who'd find much enjoyment in adventuring with such a guy, maybe apart from a zealot, but even then... If it were me, I'd find a quirk, a distant loving memory, or something else that makes the character more than a very very angry man. I think he can also decide to change his behaviour by in-game events, instead of having his behaviour be dictated according to his background. Sort of Scrouge Ebennezer. He had a mizerable background but in the end of the movie
  25. I am not going to comment on your character creation process, you sure made a great effort on the background. I feel sorry for not finding players for this. I had a similar problem, but on the other hand I only bought the core product, knowing in full that I might never get a chance to play it. However, I found some friends that wanted to try the new system, so I got a regular group now. Why did you buy ALL expansions if you are not going to use them? Just for the reading enjoyment? This is the true definition of a hardcore fan! Also, since you made a character, I assume you are going to be a player. Players have it easy on my campaign, because they don't have to buy anything. At best, they make a small contribution to the GM's purchases.
