davro reacted to Ispher in Lucky overlod win in The Wyrm Turns. Was it legal?
An amazing battle of wits won against gullible and greedy heroes by the evil overlord who played his role perfectly. The great Vizzini would have been proud!

davro reacted to BruceLGL in The Future of 2nd Edition
If I had to guess (completely made up from me, no accuracy involved):
D2E was being ramped down. It had a long cycle and IA was taking over. Doom and MoM2E were in the project plan. As a test bed for MoM2E (and other future projects) RtL was created, to give some life to D2E in a low risk environment. Runewars miniatures was planned, so the setting is going on, buy maybe time for a break before D3E or something a bit different (talisman replacement?).
Then RtL got rave reviews and sales went through the roof. This allowed it to get another campaign quickly, which also appears to be an experiment in boosting expansion sales.
From here, it may be that RtL has turned D2E around and it will have a long life, but you can't suddenly come up with physical production that you didn't have in your roadmap, so even if they are being worked on now this would explain the gap.

davro reacted to Zaltyre in Horned Shield.
There either is (or needs to be) an appendix entry about this shield in the RtL rulebook because it is designed that the attacker (usually the OL) must choose to suffer the 2 wound or allow the gray die to remain.
For a house rule, I'd recommend the text be treated as blank for RtL, since monsters generally avoid "willingly" suffering wounds. That is, the shield essentially is just a free gray die.

Office Max has some of these available for only $3.49 apiece. But their color selection isn't very good. On the other hand, I got a Blue and Green for only $0.50 each on sale.

Seems like logical business sense. If something keeps selling in enough volume they will support it. Otherwise, they have to move on.

davro reacted to charlesanakin in Prize support for regionals
If you are a store owner and you aren't turning a handy profit from hosting a Regional X-Wing event you're doing it all wrong. These tournaments don't really require extra staff in store. Unless those 100 people are buying things and you need extra help at the register and that's money in pocket anyway. Mats purchased are bought wholesale not msrp and can be given away as prizes or retained (still have value). Smart organizers ask players to bring their own. Chair and table rental represents a significant outlay of cash. Stores also don't pay msrp for the prizes they give away. Frankly stores should make enough in concessions to pay for expenses. The question is do stores want to entreat themselves to potential customers vs line their pockets? It's up to them and that's fine but I'd still like to know which are which. That's the value of this thread.

Install BlueStacks or another Windows Android-Emu and then download the Road to Legend apk file.
Works great on windows and with higher resolution..........and kills the time until PC Version is out

Let's face it, FFG only ever gives rough estimates on their release dates and since this is not even one month off their projection, there is no need to get angry.
I'm sure FFG will release another preview before the end of march may giving a new release date.
edit: edited the correct month, ty lazydragonAR

Again, having played both systems, I argue that the SW:IA model is actually a lot more difficult as the game evolves from action to action. It also really helps prevent games from snowballing one way or the other. There is obviously a reason that they chose the newer, more improved system for this app. Think of it as an evolution from Red Rover to Chess.

davro reacted to Tintaglia in Road to legend
I realize reading some posts that launching IA has, far from putting an end to Descent, lured new players, due to the attractive Starwars theme, into the game style of Descent and familiarized them with it. And now people are buying Descent cause they may want to play a variant of IA in an Heroic Fantasy World, experiencing something new but still manageable as they know a part of the basic rules. Sure a lot of players have gone to IA for a time, but they may come back to Descent for the app for example. In that way the whole community has been more or less reinforced.
Again, FFG gets all my respect for their deep wisdom.

I actually feel that the you go I go turn structure is much more challenging than blow all of our cool downs at one time and mow down a bunch of helpless monsters. Nobody was asking them to shave time off the missions, were they? Nobody was saying that either way is faster than the other, were they? I am confused by that.
Having the game constantly evolve by alternating turns adds a whole other level of strategy that just isn't present in the traditional Descent format. As the OL in both games I much, much, much prefer the alternating strategy and find it to actually be quite a bit more challenging than all at once. This will in turn help make the AI more challenging. If you like playing games where you get to mindlessly blast down waves of monsters instead of having to pick your spots and adapt your game strategically turn to turn I can suggest Zombies Ate My Neighbours for the SNES.

News on the App:
https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/news/2016/3/30/deeper-into-the-dark/
Dang, looks like there will be perma death!!! No more wussy knocked down and get back up like when you play against the OL, that's easy mode compared to this!
And ya the Peril seems like the way they will keep things challenging versus just rest and recover safely in the back. Action management.
Also the IA structure of you go I go turns is much better than the traditional Descent you all go then I all go. Very, very nice choice here.
Looks great, well done FFG. Except this part :
You said just a few weeks a few weeks ago! Although notice the key word 'free'?

I think people are forgetting what this app is trying to do. It is not trying to replace physical gaming for those who cannot dedicate the time. It is simply a way to turn Descent into co-op.
Seriously, if most people don't have the time to get two people to play Descent Second Edition on a regular basis, then board gaming is in trouble. Second Edition already shortened the play time from First, and made a campaign possible with 2 players instead of 5. If people can't get that together, then this app isn't going to save the industry.
This app just provides an automated overlord so people can co-op. It doesn't mean board gaming as a whole needs digital life support. It means AI is better handled by a computer. That's it.
Why do you think co-op is so hot for Descent? It's because sometimes, being the overlord sucks. Everyone is against you. Ever tried playing a real Road to Legend or Sea of Blood campaign as the overlord? It's horrible. Our group survives because the most experienced player is a hero (me) who helps the overlord until he/she no longer needs it.
Our group is made of hardcore traditionalist board gamers who invest hours per week into gaming. And we still would want this app if it were made for first edition.

davro reacted to Gridash in Road to legend
You still have human interaction when using the app, playing with your fellow players face to face cooperatively, so it's not like you're all just watching a screen.
No harm in creating different game modes. In fact, it might be a better way to introduce new players to the game by all playing coop using the app. After a campaign, you could go with the classic overlord vs players setup after everybody has become more knowledgeable of the rules and ingame abilities.
The overlord will be able to go full stomping mode without feeling bad because some players might not grasp all the rules yet or have the necessary experience yet.
I see nothing but good things regarding the app. It will also keep the interest on Descent for a longer time, increasing the potential pool of players whom also will eventually flow to the classic Overlord vs Heroes mode.

This is an Xwing rule that's a vice on Armada. You don't need to remove squadrons or ships to move.
It's already on the rules and tournament rules. You don't remove ships of squadron of the table, you just eyeball from above where it will land, and in the case you end up in top of squadrons, you won't need to place a tool anyways to know where they were, as you will follow the overlapping rules.
Tournament rules (Movement, page 4)
Rules (Reference maneuver, page 7)
