  1. I bought 3 for the upgrades, and won a 4th one in the Tourney last Saturday.  It does seem like an awfully large pile of shuttles, even for me.

The advanced sensors may be the most useful benefit from having so many...

He buys three after we've already agreed to allow proxy cards in our league. That's dedication!

    Or maybe insanity.

  2. What: Star Wars the Card Game tournament

    When: Sat, Oct 4th @ 6:00 pm

Where: Nuke-Con - Ramada Plaza Omaha, Omaha, NE

We will play 3- 70 minute rounds using Swiss pairings.

There is no entry fee for the tournament, but you do have to pay to get into the convention. I suggest attending all-day Saturday, if not the whole weekend. I'll be running demos and have space for open-play Sat morning from 9am-11.  Then at 12 noon there'll be an X-Wing tournament, followed immediately by the card game tournament.

All skill levels are welcome and we'll pair up players based on experience level when possible.

FFG refused to provide prize support, so some of the details are still up in the air.  Right now it looks like:

    • 1st Place: $15 in Con-bucks, choice of 2 sets of Star Wars art sleeves, Ultra Pro: Pro+ deck box
    • 2nd Place: $10 Amazon gift card, 1 set of Star Wars art sleeves
    • 3rd Place: $5 in Con-bucks
    • random participation prizes: 1 Ultra Pro: Pro Duel deck box. 2 Ultra Pro: Pro+ deck boxes
    • 1 Con-Buck, randomly awarded each round to a losing player.

The convention is providing additional prize support itself, but I may not know exactly what that is until game time.

  3. I'm just not a HLC on a firespray kind of thinker. I use my rear arcs often, usually more than my front arc. I just don't think the way you need to think in order to run a HLC on a firespray.

Hothie and I talked about this after our match on Saturday and I agreed. I run a lot of two Firespray squads and I've decided that HLC just isn't worth the cost most of the time. I only get to use it once or twice a game b/c a lot of the time I've got a shot out the rear arc which means there's really no reason to do a K-turn to get them back in the HLC's arc.

The exception is when I'm flying Krassis, b/c of his ability.

  4. Hey Des Moines guys! It was great meeting you two and it was a pleasure to play you Hothie (2nd round, I had the twin Y's).  I hope to return the favor and drive over to IA next year.

For those who weren't there, we had a turnout of 13, which was pretty sad considering 21 had pre-registered.  I think everyone still had a great time though, and there were definitely some surprises in the final 4. The championship game was a Reb vs. an Imp and had to be determined by tie-breaker. It came down to one X-Wing vs. one TIE Bomber, both w/PS 2 and they killed each other simultaneously. So the Imp player won on Initiative: 99pt build to 100 pt build.

Pretty crappy way to determine the winner of such an epic game.  :(

  5. Sorry I wasn't very talkative last night. That was the first time I've played that guy in X-Wing, so I was trying to pay extra attention to what he was doing since I wasn't sure how skilled he was. I didn't mean to totally tune you out though. Then I turned around to look for you and you'd already left (I didn't know you had to take off before 8).  I was going to introduce you to Matt, the other guy I play the LCG with. He was at the table behind me in the Bears hat. Good guy despite being a Bears fan. :-)

We've got 2 weeks of X-Wing league left and they're altering the rules to up the competitiveness, so I doubt I'll play any cards on the next two Tuesdays. We usually have a week or two break in between "seasons" tho, so I'll be sure to play then. And Matt is on vacation in two weeks and I know he wants to get in a lot of gaming, so I'll put you two in touch.

  6. Just be aware that when you mix affiliations, you still have to follow the rules for Resource Matching on pg 16 of the rulebook.

So for your Sith/Navy deck, if you only have Sith Objectives in play and you only draw Navy cards for your hand, you won't be able to pay for any of those cards.

  7. I've got 2 Firesprays and a Falcon and use them most ever week in league play. After 4 months of normal use, *all* of the female ends have cracks in them. One of the pegs from my Falcon broke completely at the female end, so I've only been using the 1 peg for it. You can't just use 1 peg for the Firespray though, so I'm going to need to contact FFG about replacements.

Overall I think its pretty bad design on FFG's part. I could understand this happening if a model was dropped or regularly mishandled, but these are not. They simply don't fit correctly onto either the ship or the base and the wiggle causes undue stress on the pegs.

One player in our league has had enough problems w/his TIE Fighters that he recently replaced the pegs with Q-Tips. It looks pretty **** cool - they're neon green so they kinda match the range-stick colors - and he knows that he'll still have pegs left to use when he goes to any official tournaments.

  8. The rulebook does a very good job of laying out the happy path.  But it fails rather badly when it comes to providing a framework for the depth and variety of abilities which will follow from a game with CCG-style abilities.

Good for an intro game.  Very bad as a comprehensive rules set for a growing competitive game.

    Agreed.

They wrote the rulebook b/c they knew that lots of soft-core gamers (lol) would pick up the core set just b/c its Star Wars. (and thus the push into Target and B&N)  But it doesn't hold up to the competitive gameplay that comes w/the hard-core crowd. And that's who will keep the game alive via multiple/return purchases.
