  1. I have found the most cost effective way is to sleeve your encounter cards and put your Hero/Aspect cards in a card binder. That way, you can just sleeve your deck as you build/play them and by having them in a binder, you can flip through them easier which I find makes deck-building a bit more user friendly

What about the fact that your -- anyone's, really -- personal tastes are not good baseline for exposing the art of a bigger pool of artists?

I applaud the variety, regardless of what I think of it.

You are wrong! My opinion on the art is the ONLY opinion that matters, lol.

In all honesty, I know personal taste has A LOT to do with this gripe. Like, personally, I would have preferred they stuck with 1 artist for each hero for consistency but understand that is probably not the easiest thing to do.

I am also someone who hates the fact that the cards are colored by their aspect. Minor gripe but I would have preferred just a symbol or something. Not a fan of the Crayola look but it doesn't take away from my enjoyment of the game.

I really don't know why they use so much poor art in this game. It has become a common joke among my friends to see how many times a terrible looking Captain Marvel will show up on a card.

Many of these characters have been around longer than most of us have been alive. Why don't they pick better art?

Doesn't help that their other games often have fantastic art.

I really have to agree with you. There are certain cards that look pretty solid but others that just give me the "WTF?!" face when trying to think about who decided that was the best picture to utilize. The only thing I can think of is that Marvel is giving them access to only a limited pool of images "approved" by them. Maybe due to artist rights/royalties or what have you. But using Google Images, I can make a better art deck for any hero in about 20 minutes, lol

  4. I pre-ordered straight from Asmodee and my copy arrived on Monday. Anyone know if they are having similar stock issues like with previous packs? That was the driving force for me to order straight from them so I could guarantee myself a copy and not get "allocated".

What I’d like to know is what is the issue with game mats? Why are all there game mats released months after the actual game? One would think that if you know production on these thing takes longer then the actual game they would order them ahead of time, right??? Sorry I know we are talking about FFG here. I’m just rambling after a couple martinis.

You have a legitimate point. For L5R, it launched alongside playmats (at least they had them all at GenCon that year). Not sure why it would take 2-ish + months to get them out. I ended up going to Inked Gaming to get my own made.

I thought 4-player was tedious, I can't imagine 8 or 10 players. There'd have to be a real twist to make it not a slog.

In some LOTR LCG big multiplayer games, they have the players broken down into smaller groups and each group is facing a different "stage" that at the end of the round, all interact depending on the status/advancement. So you are heavily invested in your pod but also interested in the others because their performance indirectly (or sometimes directly) affects your future progress.

They've been clear on the last stream that there is no such thing as a 'cycle' for this game, even though Caleb did acknowledge that it's hard not to think of a 'thematic' series of releases as one. But this still means there is no such expectation to have here, in terms of how many heroes, packs and whatnot, until they decide to change theme or setting.

I hadn't heard that. Thanks for the info! Makes sense now. Also makes it harder to predict! lol

    This won't happen, sorry.

You're going to have a few hundred people showing up with their own decks.  There won't be any reliable coordination beforehand - even if they put out instructions, people won't read them.  Building groups at the beginning of the event needs to be as minimal as possible for time (and sanity) reasons.  You're not going to see any specific build restrictions.

While true, they have had success with the LOTR and AH events and those are limited by who plays which heroes/investigators. To the point where people show up with at least 2 decks, just in case.

I mean a scenario where there's exactly one of each released hero would be the obvious choice. Like a proper "All the Avengers" scenario.

Would make for an interesting Thanos quest. I would be super hyped for that!

Serious question, as it appears there were actually a lot more Wrecking Crews around than some of the initial fears would have suggested, did anyone actually have a problem getting Wrecking Crew? I’m in the UK and I only ordered it the Friday before it came out, and I got it on release day... the usual store where I bought it now seems to have it in stock, but was showing it sold out when I was looking around to pre order.

I had initially preordered mine through Team Covenant but got the dreaded "allocation" email so took their option for a refund. I was able to hit up mu LGS and got one on launch day. Granted, I did call about a week prior and paid for it over the phone to reserve a copy but they apparently got enough in for me to do so as late as I did.

Unless you think the Story Box is going to come out on the 31st, then it will already be out when GenCon starts.

My hope is that they have some kind of GenCon event planned like they do for Arkham.

That was the point of my initial post. Hoping for some sort of larger player count "quest". Last year's Arkham was like that with the Blob. Course, with the limited hero pool, it might be difficult. But it would be cool to assemble the Avengers to take on some massive global threat.

  12. So I am going out on a limb and am going to assume FFG will have some sort of Champions event at GenCon. Has anyone speculated as to what? In the past, it feels like they have gone towards bigger co-op groups with Lotr and Arkham and their 12-ish player quests. I wonder if they will try the same for Champions? Maybe like a Galactus event or something.

  13. @Danwarr  I could have an unpopular opinion but I don't see that small of a card pool locked an issue. It makes the role selection process have that much more meaning and impact. You still have access to 90% of the cards with a rotating 10%, depending on role selection.

In the end though, I think we are stuck on opposite sides of the fence here, lol. At least the new multi-role process seems to somewhat bridge the gap.

  14. @Danwarr  You have to take into consideration L5R as a whole. The game was built on the previous premise that the community would have somewhat of a say in how the game progresses. No other CCG or LCG has that. Roles is a way to implement that interaction without it pulling the game way out of whack. As for the "segments of the card pool" you reference being locked out of, that equates to what, less than a handful of cards per clan? I don't think 2-3 cards on the shelf until an applicable role is selected breaks the game. They can be incentive for the hatamotos to choose said role when the time rolls around. There has to be benefits and consequences for being able to impact the game's direction. You get access to some cards and lose access to others. A chunk of the draw of L5R was that you could impact the game. By removing the role locks, there really is no direct impact and boon for achieving hatamoto status. And you can't compare this to other LCGs because it wasn't designed to be like those other LCGs. FFG wanted to keep what made L5R special as best they could and I think they were able to do that, mostly.
