  1. I agree completely Nematode with your post. I am in much the same boat as far as 40K goes. I love the models and the modelling aspect. The game is fun but not very deep.

I like all kinds of games and I wouldn't immediately pass judgement on any game just because of what it uses for one mechanic in the game. They must all be looked at as a whole.

I hope that Horus Heresy turns out very nice (I have already pre-ordered it). I would like to think that it can be a direct link between my obsessions of boardgaming and tabletop wargaming.

Although, like others in this thread, I am moving more towards FFG (and other board games) and moving away from GW's Warhammer games.

I'm kind of curious as to what a female space marine would even bring to the game. Like, how would you play a Space Marine that is female differently from a male one?

I would think NO difference whatsoever. Other than the fact that the person roleplaying that character would be female.

Well, that's not entirely fair. People don't have to roleplay characters of their gender. Which is why I'm wondering why people feel the need to force female space marines.

You're right. It probably isn't fair. I am sure that their are good enough roleplayers out there to pull it off. I started with Dungeons and Dragons back in the late 70's and I have yet to see a player pull off a cross-gender character. Granted, I was out of the loop for quite a while until Dark Heresy pulled me back in.

I certainly don't mean to have any of my comments construed as sexist. I am not. In this case I just can't really see a male player really pushing hard to play a female Deathwatch Space Marine. It might not be a 0% chance, but it can't be too high.

I agree that the whole argument is somewhat silly. If a player wants to play a female Space Marine, big deal.

  3. Are dice really that cool that you would take the time to mock a game that doesn't use dice?

Is a card that contains the same information as a die PLUS small background blurbs and fluff really that much worse than a die?

Seems a bit childish to me. If it works, it works. Does the Magic: The Gathering crowd laugh at the guys playing 40K because they look like they are playing yahtzee all night long?

It doesn't seem like much of a reason to stay away from a game.

  5. I tend to lean towards the group that maintains that there are NO female SM's. But, I would be surprised if Deathwatch doesn't come with an Inquisitor Xenos character that could be either.

Also, I wouldn't argue with the idea that the Adeptus Astartes are androgynous enough for a good female roleplayer to easily pull off a Deathwatch character.
