Please print more novellas or in larger batches as I can’t ever seem to find them in stock anywhere. I’ve even placed pre orders with csi but wind up somehow missing out. I assume they had more pre orders than product when it came in and so my order just sits until more arrive. I have been waiting since Jan for an order that contains ire of the void, and to fight the black wind for example, still not shipped due to no stock.
This shouldn’t be a rare item. You got scalpers on eBay selling for 40 dollars.

What I really think is missing in Descent is the sense of exploration. (Gloomhaven actually has an optional random dungeon option).
The maps (and most things on it) are known to the players at start. Games like Hero Quest and Warhammer Quest had hidden/random maps, adding mystery and surprises to the mix.
Imperial Assault has this to a limited degree. At least you don´t know what is lurking behind that next door.
Nerekhall had a system where the OL could select 1 out of 3 random effects on many of its quests. I loved that - psychological warfare is always fun.
I would love to see random maps, hidden doors and such in a new Descent expansion/Descent 3. And WITHOUT removing the Overlord.

oldtimer got a reaction from Ompakim in Campaign results *spoilers
I finished my first solo campaign run of night of the zealot and a side quest of curse of Rougaru.  And at the end of the book it says to share your results so here I am.
I don't see anyway to hide spoilers in this editor so don't read this if you don't want any spoilers.
I played Jenny Barnes from the dunwich expo (built to the specs in the deck lists pdf) thinking she would be good solo. The game was on easy mode for the bag config.
Night of the Zealot was the campaign.
3 of 4 of the missions I failed with me being defeated and getting the first result. I had about 3 monsters on me on the first mission and had nothing to evade them all. In the next mission the roguaru wound up showing up and I thought It was impossible to fight since if I do 1 damage he bolts to the other side of the map and there is not enough time or clues to deal with him. Solo is even harder because in multi player you can do more damage before he bolts and you can split up so you can corner him. I attacked twice failed each time and he got his retaliation then attacked after my turn was up and killed me on the first attempt to fight him. Then on the second mission I ran out of time/actions and only found one named cultist. I felt 6 to win was way above possible since it only counts the named cultists and not the normal ones. The clue cost to pull them was just so time consuming on top of all the other cards you are dealing with. The last mission I started with doom already on the agenda due to failing the 2nd mission so it was extra difficult since I lost 2 whole rounds to that. Died to monsters before getting to the next act card.
I ended up with the following:
    Trama 1 physical, 2 mental
Lita was in my deck, my house was still standing, Ghoul priest is still alive (never killed him and he showed up every mission), Rougaru continues to haunt the bayou, Arkham succumbed to the umordhoth's terrible vengence.
Cultists who got away was 4 of em. And Jenny was killed upon the conclusion.
    R.I.P.
The game felt like a snowball, or like drowning in a constant stream of monsters and bad events. Even tho I would get the ally that gives me another action each turn out early some games, I could never get a leg up. I spent my XP upgrading and only spent 1 xp to go on the rogarou quest. I swapped out cards that were for multiplayer (odd she has those as a char who should be the best for solo) for a baseball bat and some blue cards.
The roulette card that lets you double the difficulty of a test and resolve twice seemed pretty difficult to use even on easy since the number can increase to insane high numbers and make it impossible to pass. It also seems like you cant just play it for the ? symbol and not use the power, ie, choose not to double a test but rather just get the ? increase.
I was shocked at how unlucky I was and how badly I failed at every mission even on the lowest difficulty. I play very carefully and look up rules if I have any issues and as far as I know I'm playing correctly.  I feel easy mode should pad the doom track so you can get more time to get things done.
Maybe Jenny just sucks or solo mode is more unforgiving. I wound up with a basic weakness that made her loose her text on her hero card and found her major weakness to be pretty brutal as it soaks up a ton of actions and time to deal with it.
I've played the gathering many times with all the heroes from the core game and only won one game out of 5. 2 of those games were on standard then I switched to easy to try and make things better.
I'm starting to consider making my own mode, Very Easy. Maybe one extra action per turn, or a bonus to how much doom each card requires before it advances. Boosting XP is not as helpful IMO because a new player may not know the best cards to get or maybe they are the type of player like me who just likes to pick things that they think are cool or thematic and are not power gamer/mathematicians. Since I feel like its kinda lame to spoil the first exposure to the story and go through a land slide fail along the way on your first game. Then after you know the plot and more about where things are etc to use that info to do better. I find that really cheesy if that's the way its intended to go down. I know this is a arkham game and it should be hard but I think it would be more rewarding if it were more forgiving and then on subsequent plays with your learned knowledge of the plot start to the ramp up in difficulty.
Also what is the point of the campaign results with out a website where you can post them to and find out some of the cool plot ends for things like writing down that the rogaoru continues to haunt the bayou or that green potion card... And to compare your results with other players.
Even tho I'm ranting, I like this game a lot and I'll be playing more games and updating this post. Maybe the RNG will go easy on my next time!

    minor bug,
If you load a campaign from the save slot and then go to town it will show you a list of items that changes each time you load.

It should should save the shop items in the slot so when you load it is the same. Especially when you can sell items for full price back to the store.

If you go to the town then leave and then back to the town again it will remember the items in the store but if you go to quit and then reload they will change.

think about it, they want the free content to be minimal so you will want to buy the full content via the campaign's they are going to charge for later on. I hope they find a way to maybe pull from a random pool of layouts for each adventure to keep it fresh. Its probably hard to program good procedural maps tho.

If there are none of one type of monster (minion or master or unique) I just hit the all X has gone button at the bottom and essentially skip it. So basically I only resolve the activation for figures that are actually on the board. Makes sense to me. The app is not tracking figures so Its just going to give you all the possible options to cover all the bases.

I just want to say I'm loving this app so far. I really like how it handles items and how better items show up based on your "Fame". I love how there was a narrator and voice and hope it gets expanded into more parts of the game. One odd thing happened with a monster activation for cave spiders, with the first action it engaged but was still too far away by only one square so its next move was a retreat which seemed counter intuitive. Also I had a party wipe due to taking too long and the app applying direct damage to everyone. When it got high enough in damage it killed everyone and since all I could do was stand up actions on my next round, which ends your turn, all my guys just died immediately on the next round.

I hope that the map layouts will become more of a random pick from some varied layouts kinda how the POD's have some variety with the exploration cards. With all the map tiles avail I think this could be possible.

One bug I found is if there is a monster activation screen up and you try and click on a monster icon at the right to look up their "info" it wont let you. This is useful to be able to do since you might want to look at that info to figure out what the unique monster is going to do with his surges or other stats while you are in that activation menu.
**my bad the tutorial shows you about the skull icon at the top center of the activation menu, I just forgot about it. I think it could be a little more intuitive to have a little text above it showing "info" or something like that.

Keep up the good work FFG! I look forward to the Steam version asap.

I feel the game needs the option to adjust the difficulty for those out there that feel pigeon holed into only playing the best hero/class combos or feel like they have to not make any mistakes just to have a chance at winning. It could be as simple as just lightening the effects from major peril such as direct damage or how quick it stacks up. There more options the better IMO.

*** I played the same quest again with the same heroes and I did much better. Along with the 2 player rule and the extra attacks or heals and a focus on objectives I was able to get a win. Also the major peril did not trigger. The cave spiders are a bit buggy where they will engage and then retreat in some circumstances.

PCs are not on the way out. Not in any way, shape, or form. Can you imagine doing excel spreadsheets on a tablet or phone without a physical keyboard and mouse?  Sure, games and apps like this are more accessible by tablet, but a desktop will (for the foreseeable future) be around for other games or work software.

Anyways - they already announced that it will be released on Steam, so just wait for it.

you put them closest to the square they is highlighted, in the end its up to you how you position them if there are options. Just use what you think a OL player would do and don't dwell on it.

if it says to add a group then its a full group for the number of players respecting group limits, but the app usually shows you exactly where and how many models to place. But you should never place more than what the group limit is (back of monster card) unless the app clearly says to ignore limits.

I doubt they will put in existing campaigns due to how different the rules and setup is. We will just get all new content over time with new quests and stories and I cant wait as so far I really like how it works so far. I'd like to see more voice in the app instead of just the intro. Make the unique monsters all have voice overs would be a start.

As long as one space of the monsters base covers the 'spawn square' you are good, if the tile is full you spawn them as close as you can. And each monster has group limits so unless you are specifically instructed to divert from this you always respect the group limits.

Trust me, your not missing out on much. I was a huge fan of 1st ed. So I bought 2e when it first came out. I convinced my group to play a campaign right out the gate. This was the biggest mistake. I also played the OL the entire time and we didn't rotate. What happened? My group, everyone except me pretty much hates Descent now. When I mention to them, hey look at this latest product they just made for Descent, they react like I just said a bad word. LOL

Thats how bad the shadow rune was at launch. Basically they all were expecting D&D style play and then they went on a huge loosing streak and then they would see how the game rewarded the winner and feel even worse. Near the end they won the last 2 or 3 missions including the end but by that time it was too late. There were serious errors and unbalanced quests as well. We all really hated the miss on the attack die as well. SWIA fixed this by moving it to the def die and it works much better.

Now I really wish I had waited and let the game mature a bit. If they ever make a 3rd edition I'm going to wait a year before I pick it up no matter how much I will want to dive into that pool. Had I done so with 2e I'll bet my group might actually be playing it after the first try. The only Descent I can get a portion of the same group to try is the POD Co-ops. And they are even hesitant with the new App. Telling me "You try it out solo first" before they are willing to try it.

I'll bet you can find the original version of the base core set on ebay on the cheap.

I think I'd rather see a new campaign in book form than a reprint of the first one. The need more of them that include the other expansions.

I really doubt that they will discontinue all future physical content or even change it in structure. As long as ppl like yourself buy the stuff you like there will be a market and they will make more before they decide to reboot it once again with the 3rd edition. I would just relax and realize they really do value you and your wallet. It's against their (ffg) best interest to do what you're fearing they will.

That's why you never, ever open the next door unless its the start of your entire hero turn. Pass a turn and take the hit to your fate and the peril card in order to have your party have all of its actions after you open that door. This is rule no.1 in the pod co-ops. I hope this is less of a issue with the App. With my group it makes them feel pigeon holed into being forced to use this tactic unless it costs us the game (fate contacting doom tracker).

I'm glad in your group it was a laugh and it added to your fun but in my group with the types who min/max really hate it when they loose efficiency and possibly loose due to not knowing whats coming next or how the mechanics work inside out. There the types who will read every card before playing the game and count the cards in the graveyard etc etc. It's really funny when they make me take an action I don't agree with and their logic is based on a die roll outcome. Sometimes the roll completely goes the opposite of what they are so sure is going to happen and then they still uphold their view they knew what I should do on my turn. lol I personally enjoy the element of surprise.
