Ooh exciting. And I just got notification my Innsmouth will be delivered today! On my birthday, what a nice surprise. :) I suspect Trish and Mary are going to make their way into Innsmouth here. Very excited to try Trish.

    Happy birthday!

    Mine will arrive today too!

If you are dealt one damage and one horror from the same source then you can put either the damage or the horror on a Miskatonic asset but not both.

Note that if you have more than one Miskatonic asset you are still limited to assigning a maximum of one damage or one horror between all of them.

    I hope that helps!

    That's my interpretation too.

  3. Announcement.  War of the Outer Gods - the GenCon & Arkham Nights that never were scenario - has an official announcement article!

3 Cultist Factions via for power.  They can even attack each other.

You, your small group of fiends, or an entire legion of teams must band together against these warring fiends and, possibly, the gods they serve!  (Two of the gods are viewable within the article.)

    Trifecta of Evil

Three evil cults aim to rip our world apart as they call to their loathsome masters—can you forestall the imminent destruction of Earth? Look for the War of the Outer Gods scenario pack for Arkham Horror: The Card Game in December 2020!

So what's the story there? You lost really badly? Or what exactly does the card depict, and how did you do?

Horribly.  We were able to get to the Gate of the Abyss before the last Doom was placed.  We continued (but claimed our previous defeat) until we were ultimately wiped out.  We were unable to accomplish any further advancement of the mission.

I think the players as a whole did not do terribly well.  Maybe a hundred plus investigators/characters fell into the abyss/sleep?  (Am I remembering that right?)

Well the face on the October Live graphic is the same one on the Descent box right?

    Sure does!

Seriously, that box looks like the AH3e box if it were 2-3 times thicker!

  6. To date (Spider-Woman notwithstanding) I have 4 decks, one per class, and mix-n-match with heroes usually 2 at a time.  My Justice (yellow) deck is all about thwart, Aggression (red) is about dealing damage, Leadership (blue) is about big allies although is shifting to hero-readying tricks, & Protection (green) has shifted from healing/preventing damage to actual DEF and tricks to ready if you do defend.

Spider-Woman (whom annoyingly I enjoy quite a bit) can't just have one of these pre-built decks slapped on her.  Hopefully I'll have enough extra cards to build a small version of each of the 4 decks for her...  Or, maybe she'll just run 25 neutral cards and not properly use her ability, Apartment, or 2 copies of Finesse.

For a 2 player game (my most common) 1 character focuses on thwarting while the other deals with the villain/minions.  It helps if one or both can overlap.  I almost always run Justice & something else.

  7. I received my "Order Shipped Confirmation Notification" for Marvel LCG: Kang this morning and Innsmouth just a moment ago, but UPS and the USPS are disavowing all knowledge so maybe the past tense is more optimistic than accurate.  [Pre-order from FFG]

The pun was entirely accidental.  Descent makes a ton of sense.  Thanks!

It should be the huge box they were holding at the very end of the In Flight report.  Massive box, almost certainly Descent.

I could go for a new edition of it.  I like the app-controlled version, but Gloomhaven is definitely easier to work with as you control all of the content and the game doesn't alternate spawning a baby dragon and fire elemental every other turn.  I mean, I ran the necromancer (because that was an option and "I am not programmed to pass on this") and we had a meat shield, but there were only 2 of us so...

It also helps to colour-code cards for colour = good, white/grey = bad - like you know when you've drawn a weakness because it's totally different to the rest of the cards in your deck, so for one of their intended purposes (a pick-up and play deck for a brand new player) it's easier to explain the concept of a weakness.

That actually is how I think.  I know the neutral cards so well that if I draw I don't recognize, it's usually the signature card of whichever investigator I am currently playing.  Heck, I've played Daisy as much as anybody and I only realize I've drawn her tote bag after I realize it's a neutral card.

On a parallel line, I'm surprised they didn't release any neutral cards in these decks.  I guess it really is for the newbies, although the deck construction does call out "Neutral cards" but they do not provide any.

Probably mentioned already, but it is the same as how the neutral Skill cards got non-neutral upgrades.  For example, Unexpected Courage becomes a Survivor card, and Overpower becomes a Guardian card.  That one makes Silas sad, especially since he is pictured on the card and can't use it.

Admittedly that is weird (and cool), but it limits them to their respective class strengths: Seeker-Intellect, Guardian-Combat, etc.

This is just upsetting the applecart...which apparently means I'm the applecart.  Consistency, consistency, squirrel!

huh ~ it didn't even occur to me. if the card is investigator-specific and the investigator only has one class does it make a difference?

Neither Rain Nor Shine is awesome x3. : D

It's inconsistent!  It sets a very bad precedence.  My mind...it can only take so much...

    5 minutes ago, Assussanni said:

Yep, I can't remember if we've heard an official reason but I think it was probably just done for simplicity if a new player picks up the deck. That way you don't have to explain to someone playing Wini that Anything You Can Do, Better isn't a valid card to be committed by Daredevil.

    That was my guess.

  12. All the cards are up on CardGameDB.com

"Inspired by the events of Arkham Nights 2018."  This should be the fallout of our playthroughs of Guardians of the Abyss during AN'18.  (P.S. My group did not help the cause.  Sorry. 😉)  I believe there were 3 options for which weakness we "earned" as a result.  Day of Reckoning

    From https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/news/2018/10/12/gods-and-monsters/:

    • "The results that players obtain at Arkham Nights 2018 will affect all players of Arkham Horror: The Card Game, adding one of three possible basic weaknesses to a future scenario."

never had much interest for Gloomhaven until i saw Frosthaven. am considering playing Jaws of the Lion just to see if i even like the mechanics, etc. for solo play, would you say it's as fun as Arkham Horror or is just a lot of endless fiddly mechanics with a tissue-thin story?  i've watched videos and i honestly can't tell. i played oldschool D & D back in the day but not sure i'm into the dungeon crawl anymore.

on topic: none of my pre-orders shipped so i have the sads, but plenty of AH content to play while i wait.  : D

The mechanics are solid.  Jaws of the Lion has an excellent learn-to-play section (the first 5 scenarios).  The narrative is a single quest line with 2 branching points and optional side quests.  It's pretty thin - you're mercenaries and someone's doing something bad: go get 'em.

You will need to play 2 characters if you're rolling solo.  I recommend Hatchet & the Demolitionist, but if you want a little more challenge then go with the Red Guard & Voidwarden.  The Voidwarden isn't as adept at combat (more support) as the other 3.  She does rock mid & late campaign though (her and Red Guard are who I went with during my play).

I am 100% part of the problem. The pandemic not only prevented me from playing with friends, but caused my family members to retreat to their respective corners, so while I initially thought we'd play more games together, they have barely wanted to play any. That's what got me into solo gaming.

I started with things I hadn't been able to get them into (7th Continent and Gloomhaven) tried solo versions of some games I liked competitively (like Wingspan) and found that playing against automa was unsatisfying to me, purchased Mage Knight due to its stellar solo reviews and found that I really preferred campaign/legacy play (just when your Mage Knight deck gets good, the game is over, whereas in Gloomhaven I would find myself getting a little bored during a scenario, but as soon as it was over and got new cards and gear, I was fired up to play again), and that's what led me to Arkham Horror LCG. So, my apologies to al the long-time fans for my role in the shortage, but this game has saved my sanity (oh, the irony!), so thanks for that.

I'm an only child, so I've always been into solo play.  Blitzed through Gloomhaven: Jaws of the Lion a few weeks ago.  I think the map book allowed for really varied play so it hardly got stale, but you definitely identified the reward loop of that franchise!

Welcome to the community!  I'm almost a cycle behind on Arkham so as long as you don't prevent me from getting the newest Marvel: LCG product, then no worries! 😜

Alright, help me out: am I clueless, or is FFG?  This released on the 1st of September (some 24 days ago).

    From Amazon (336 pages):

The first in a new range of novels of eldritch adventure from the wildly popular Arkham Horror; an international thief of esoteric artifacts stumbles onto a nightmarish cult in 1920s New England.
Countess Alessandra Zorzi, international adventurer and thief, arrives in  Arkham pursuing an ancient body freshly exhumed from a  mound in Oklahoma, of curious provenance and peculiar characteristics. But before she can steal it, another party beats her to it. During the resulting gunfight at the Miskatonic Museum, the countess makes eye contact with the petrified corpse and begins an adventure of discovery outside her wildest experiences. Now, caught between her mysterious client, the police, and a society of necrophagic connoisseurs, she finds herself on the trail of a resurrected mummy as well as the star-born terror gestating within it.

2 pages of the prologue are missing, but you can read the entire first chapter on the Amazon page by clicking "Look Inside".

    Due out November 3rd 2020 (352 pages):

A mad surrealist’s art threatens to rip open the fabric of reality, in this twisted tale of eldritch horror and conspiracy, from the wildy popular world of Arkham Horror.
Aspiring painter Alden Oakes is invited to join a mysterious art commune in Arkham: the New Colony. When celebrated Spanish surrealist Juan Hugo Balthazarr visits the colony, Alden and the other artists quickly fall under his charismatic spell. Balthazarr throws a string of decadent parties for Arkham’s social elite, conjuring arcane illusions which blur the boundaries between nightmare and reality. Only slowly does Alden come to suspect that Balthazarr’s mock rituals are intended to break through those walls and free what lies beyond. Alden must act, but it might already be too late to save himself, let alone Arkham.

    January 5th, 2021 (336 pages):

A stunning return to Arkham Horror when a movie director shoots his silent horror masterpiece in eerie Arkham, capturing crawling nightmares instead of moving pictures, in this chilling novel of creeping dread.
Hollywood make-up artist and costumier, Jeany Lin, travels to Arkham to work on the new “nightmare movie” by enigmatic director Sydney Fitzmaurice. The star is her sister, Renee Love, Sydney’s collaborator and lover. Desperate to outdo the thrills and terror of Lon Chaney’s popular pictures, Sydney prepares occult-infused dream sequences for Love and her co-stars to perform. But there’s more than mere imagery at play as the cast suffer recurring nightmares, accidents, and impossible waking visions. When events take a sinister turn and people start dying on set, it’s up to Jeany to unmask the monsters before Sydney’s obsessions doom them all.

After the Team Covenant fiasco I put an order in for Barkham Horror at Amazon and setup a in-stock alert for miniaturemarket.com. I got a message saying the Amazon order couldn't be fulfilled but as soon as I got a notice from miniaturemarket I was able to place an order there and get my set. I see they are out of stock now as well so that stock lasted only a couple of days.

I plan to stick with Team Covenant because it really is nice not to have to worry about when anything comes out and order it. It just shows up at the house. Luckily, this is the first time this has happened to me using them and I know it wasn't their fault (they turned in their numbers months ago but still got less than they asked for). Hopefully this doesn't happen again in the future.

Hope everyone that wanted it got it. I have a feeling this set might not get a reprint anytime soon.

I blame Covid-19.  I think everyone realized they need to occupy themselves with fewer cohorts, and for board gamers it requires solo/cooperative play.  This has ravaged Arkham & Marvel products.

They put in their orders something like 6 months in advance and FFG delayed their release schedule by 2 months during the stay-at-home order.  No one saw this coming eight months ago.  Hopefully, we see them increase future orders and I expect them to already have been slamming the REPRINT button on the affected product lines.

The FFG Live post now says 4:30c, so 6 is presumably the old time?

I mean who even looks there?  I still think the normal time would be better, but how are we supposed to know that it's 4:30 when I've been staring at the image/pamphlet/thingy  since it was announced.  Oh good, I just got a Twitch notification and it is indeed going to be a 4:30 stream.
