Because it fixed HUGE issues with the game.
Move only recently  dipped into IA skirmish and already I see the same problem with the meta that plagued XW1.0. Meta driven by power creep is ultimately bad for the game.
60% of Regionals winners (not entirely sure this is true so don’t sue me if I’m wrong) played Specter Cell. That’s bad for the long term health of the game.
Dynamic point pricing of units would go a long way to fix that.

I guess I'm not entirely sure what you mean by that.  Time Period rules are seemingly no longer being implemented in new releases, but I'm not sure how that would effect a different and optional ruleset in a future edition.

Sure, a conversion kit could totally do that.

I'm not sure updating the lore is necessary, though. A new edition probably wouldn't use 1st ed missions anyway, so the heroes are pretty much barebones at that point.  If they get new cards/sheets, literally only the sculpts would carry over, at which point the main problematic thing would be stuff like Rebel insignias (which again, could optionally restrict them to certain time periods).

Here's a thought I've had- at this point, IA is one of the few FFG games that is stuck only to the OT timeline.  Obviously there's been discussion on the possibility of a new edition in a different era, but what if the idea of eras isn't that heavily utilized?

For instance, maybe the next edition has a campaign set during the Clone Wars.  Cool, a lot of people actually want that.  Missions could use only starting and reserved groups from the Clone Wars era.  However, via a conversion kit, all other units from 1st ed. would be available as open groups.  In addition, skirmish waves wouldn't necessarily only be for the Clone Wars, but also could finish off some of the OT stuff (like Ewoks) and even add in sequel trilogy things (like Kylo Ren).

Or, maybe each big box campaign could have its own associated era.  So maybe the first core box is a Clone Wars campaign called "The Factories of Geonosis", and the second is a ST campaign called "Secrets of Jakku". Then, again players would have the option of being able to choose whether or not they wanted to restrict open groups to era specific or not.  In addition, some units could get eratta to fit in to multiple timelines- Hired Guns could be Merc in any era, while Wookies could work for Clones/Rebels/Resistance.  Or, maybe Saboteurs could work just work for the Rebels or Resistance.  Whatever makes sense.

Obviously that would end up inordinately benefiting the Merc faction pretty heavily if that rule was applied to skirmish, so I'd suggest the optional era rule not be used in that game mode, and instead just let players build lists around the three archetypical factions- "Heroes", "Villians", "Mercenaries".

I mean, Battlefront II basically did the same thing, and there are parts of that game that are actually canon.  I could definitely see that working for us, too.

I think that a second edition for IA is good for the game as a whole.
starting with skirmish mode, I would agree that it need to be re balanced. maybe using a regular group of storm troopers as a baseline unit, and balance the other units around it. That my thoughts. It may help a lot of units from the first few waves.
for campaign mode I think some heros can be fixed and that they could reverse the imperials and Rebels. By this I mean something like inferno squad. Let the imperials be the "heros". And let them spy or sabotage rebel operations or something else.
well that's my thoughts for a hypothetical imperial assault second edition.
Sry if others mentioned similar points.

Played the first few missions of the campaign this weekend, it was really fun. Challenging missions, but entertaining. Nice to see some figures on the board that I haven't used in a while as well.
Good job FFG for getting me to re cycle my old components and get good use out of them once again
Also, I forgot how hard Wampa's can hit.

+1 what @a1bert said. Be conservative with what you add, starting with only the essentials, and then when you replay the app campaigns later you can add more to change the experience. Especially in the beginning of playing IA you don't really need all the extra stuff as you'll have loads of fun with only the basic stuff at first

Ha!  Or you get to Regionals and everyone is running Yoda and Luke with 3x rEwoks and it's the first time you've seen or heard of any of it.

Absolutely.  If we got some Canto Bight tiles with her I could pretty much say my IA collection is complete.

Thank you Albert. Just what I needed to know and was hoping so.
Yeah we're going to add in all the packs that replace tokens as we at the expansion to them. And mostly all of the ally packs, and any Villains who make sense. The big boxes, not adding hoth or jabba until those campaigns, probably doing so to the others. Was easily learned, not concerned with that.
Fun fact, just she'd this into be BG Stats app and it's my 99 the game lol (not counting any expansion for any.. so all of IA is 1 game in count)

You can add packs during a campaign, but you can't remove packs during a campaign.
If it's your first campaign with the app, I would consider not adding everything - it will take some time to learn how to handle the imperial activations, so having less variety is not a bad thing. You can add all rebel ally packs though. Adding more expansions later will make a replay of the same campaign a different experience.

Disney has been in fact more jealous of the Star wars franchise recently... they actually famously shot down a Darth Vader "fan-movie" over music copyright issue, something that didn't happen during Lucas' tenure. They know the franchise is a pool of gold and are probably scared to death after the Han solo semi-success. 2019 is the "Episode IX" year, and some people in charge might consider it a "make or break" year. I guess nothing "bad/wrong" should be associate in anyway with "Star Wars", including game product issues.
So it's possible that everything Star wars-related is now regarded by all parties as ultra-sensitive/Top Secret/Risky Business. But if this is the case with IA, it's obviously gone to ridiculous extreme!
Might just be bad Public Relation from FFG though.

One of the Legion devs implied that there was no release article on the new Officers pack due to approval issues from Disney.  Probably the same thing here.

FFG will obviously focus on adding app content that help sell the physical expansions already released. The app is free and their main motivation for putting work into this is to have the app help sell physical stuff. I don't expect there to ever be multiple- or non-expansion box app releases until they've done at least one app version of each physical box.

I tend to be rather optimistic and non-judging about these things (having worked on geek franchises myself), but the FFG silence about their own releases does feel pretty weird. I wonder what's going on? I bet there is a reason behinde these things, a decision, but I can't for the life of me understand what it could be...

I don't get it.  How hard would it have been to just say "Coming soon, a new Hoth campaign for the app" like a month ago.  That would have saved a lot of hand wringing and debate about is the game dead.  And even now, they don't have anything up on the news page about it?  Weird.  I don't follow their facebook or twitter page.  I totally agree with those who said that FFG's marketing people are doing a pretty sub standard job.
