Patriarch got a reaction from Bron Ander Haltern in Empire retreats to Rebel system
The Rebel player isn't losing too much in this event.  Because of the Imperial ships already in the Rebel system, he could neither build units from that system's icons, nor could be deploy units there.
The Imperial player may have suffered slightly, in that those ships now have a (retreated) Imperial leader blocking their movement out of the system this turn.
Advancing by retreat is definitely a tactic in this game, but it takes a bit of setting up to pull it off.  You need to make sure that you are actually allowed to go to the system you are intending to retreat to.  That usually requires having no units or loyalty/subjugation on any adjacent systems; or, in this case, having units already present where you want to go.

Does this help?  It's long but exhaustive.  However once you've played a few rounds it becomes natural.

For the Imperials, don't fall into the trap of assigning lots of cool missions.  Concentrate more on spreading out and suffocating the rebels, whilst keeping your production up.  Every turn, at least half of your leaders should be moving fleets around.  The others should be trying to keep production up, or otherwise frustrating the Rebel's attempts at scoring objectives.  If the Rebels have nowhere to run, you should be able to build up enough units to go and crush them.
And in the base game, make sure the Death Star has lots of TIE fighter bodyguards.

That's a really cool idea.  And a good use for the figures if you bought two core sets for Legion.

Orson Callan Krennic is a human male who served as Director of the Advanced Weapons Research Division of the Imperial Military up to the beginning of the Galactic Civil War.
Beginning his career as a Lieutenant Commander in the Galactic Republic, Krennic was promoted to Commander and later the fleet equivalence of Admiral upon formation of the Galactic Empire.  Persistent and ambitious, Krennic was responsible for the development and construction of the Empire's enormous Death Star  Superweapon.
An old friend of crystallographer Galen Erso, Krennic manipulated the brilliant scientist into researching synthetic kyber crystals under the pretext of researching sustainable energy. In reality, Krennic weaponized Erso's crystal research for the battle station's planet-killing Superlaser, hoping this would place him above his long-time career rival Grand Moff Wilhuff Tarkin and win the personal favor of the Emperor.
Krennic was also held accountable for security of the project, quelling rumors of the Empire's secret enterprise for the several decades of its assembly. For these many purposes he commanded a squad of Death Troopers, serving as both a sword and shield when the Director found himself in battle.
During the final stages of the Death Star's   construction, the project faced potential exposure in the form of a talkative cargo pilot. Krennic restlessly sought to silence these rumors, ordering the first successful discharge of the Superlaser on the sacred moon of Jedha, where news of the technological terror had reached.
However, Krennic was ultimately unable to contain the project's secrecy, and the fledging  Rebel Alliance soon launched an attack on the coastal planet Scarif where data tapes containing a complete technical readout of the station were being held. After Director Krennic failed to prevent the theft of these tapes, Grand Moff Tarkin deployed the Death Star in a continued effort to eliminate the compromised facility. Krennic met his end in this second blast of his own creation, an ironic culmination of his life's work. Soon afterwards, the Rebellion successfully exploited a vulnerability in the Death Star discovered through the stolen plans, detonating the reactor module and leading to the destruction  of Krennic's achievement not long after his own downfall.

Likewise, it is still our favourite game, but sad to see it will never be given a fresh injection of ideas. It is a game which so readily would fit an expansion.

Kylo Ren is my favorite part of Episode 7 and my favorite new Star Wars movie villain since Palpatine. Why? Because he's different.

The movie fakes you out with someone who looks like Darth Vader, who's desperately trying to be like Darth Vader, but in reality he's the anti-Vader.

Just look at why the two wear masks. Darth Vader wears a mask because he was horribly mutilated and constantly requires a life support system. Kylo Ren? He wears a mask to look scarier, because underneath that mask he's a totally normal dude and he finds that pathetic.

Does that mean that Kylo Ren isn't dangerous? No. If anything, that makes him more dangerous, because instead of a self-assured, calculating man, he's a volatile bag of insecurities with a lightsaber. And unlike many other insecure villains in pop cultures, his insecurities are not portrayed sympathetically; he's despicable because of them. He's a man who has the potential for good in him and actively rejects it because of pride. He's a man who when given the chance for redemption murders his father in cold blood.

And I love that the writers took that direction with the character. It's a brave direction, especially with the adoration of Darth Vader in pop culture and the unfortunate reuse of ideas in Star Wars like Starkiller base, to make his self-pronounced successor a complete tool. A well-characterized, cool-looking tool, but a tool nonetheless.

So yeah, I like Kylo Ren. It would have been so easy to just make him Darth Vader v2, or even worse Darth Maul v2. Instead he's a glorious paper tiger.

If you're anything like me (and I hope for your sake you're not) then you might have noticed certain... recurring themes that crop up on the forum in the wake of FFG preview articles for new X-Wing expansions. So I thought - given that we've got the Shadow Caster preview coming on Monday and then the mysteries of Heroes Of The Resistance and whatever GenCon brings following soon after that - there must be some way of taking this nagging feeling of deja vu and turning it into cold hard likes.

IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER - This is intended as a light-hearted nod toward popular forum tropes. No personal criticism is intended of anyone who has expressed, is currently expressing or will express any of these opinions. You're not a bad person for wanting FFG to release the Gunboat. Please drink responsibly. Your investment in 3 K-Wings can go down as well as up. If your game of X-Wing lasts longer than 12 hours, please consult your doctor.
