I think alot of people would complain if they're constantly facing off against the same 4 EU units that are entirely overpowered and have a faction all of their own.
That's X-Wings problem, no need to bring it here.

Just got the stores demo set and am painting them for play.  Have been asked by a couple customers how the  miniatures compare to the old Wiz Kids figures and the Imperial Assault Miniatures. These guys are pretty bulky and substantial!

I’d be surprised if it was both, a) really balanced, because FFG isn’t totally known for that.  And b) people will play it for the license more than the balance.  People won’t rip away from their other games, but will probably add this to their list to play.

You guys thinking what is printed on a card FFG had printed up is actually hard set and true is just so cute. Seriously, it is reminder text and FFG don't care what is printed on the card. They change things a lot, even between the time of sending the text and formatting to the printer and the time the game actually comes out.  Expect what is printed on those cards to change and be adjusted as needed over time.
To know what impact does, you look it up in the most current rule set published. Even then, be in the mind set that can change any time in the future. Also, don't expect FFG to come out with new updated cards to replace the old out dated cards. They aren't good about doing that. You'll just have to remember what impact or anything else actually does and disregard what the card says.

Better nearly late than never.  I was going to avoid it, I just don’t care for the card chase model.  It seems fairly minimal though here, and after watching a couple videos, the familiar gameplay nailed it.
I was a Dust player from day one in 2010 until late last year.  Dust Warfare was one of my favorite game systems of all time.  The suppression/panic system was developed so well by Andy Chambers and then by FFG.
After watching a few videos, they cut and pasted that entire mechanic into Legion and I’m so excited to play my favorite parts of Warfare again, with the added bonus of a Star Wars skin. So off I go preordering the crap out of this game, can’t wait to play it.

The only difference in panic, I believe, is that Dust used remaining unit size where Legion uses a Courage threshold for the suppression counters to exceed

Since I kind of have everything foundation-wise in place now, I figured I'd do a less-scrambled, more succinct and more organized thread for both updates and requests, and maybe gather your opinions on a few different things I'm considering. I can delete the old thread if mods/anyone want me to but I figured I'd just let it fade out naturally for record-keeping's sake.
But first, the spiel of where it stands now:
Tabletop Admiral is a list-building website for Runewars (and Imperial Assault), found at http://tabletopadmiral.com/runewars/
    Features:
Create an account, save your list Made with mobile in mind. Page will rearrange to fit your device and I feel it's pretty intuitive for mobile. It's not perfect though in that regard, but I'll continually be thinking about and addressing it. Print view button at the bottom, copies and pastes well if you want to share on the forum Added all of the spoiled cards so far. There's a check-box at the bottom to allow you to toggle between showing and hiding unreleased stuff. This is automatically checked for elves since you'd just have a blank page otherwise. The IA people can vouch that I will add cards USUALLY the day that they're spoiled, so you can always play around with the newly spoiled stuff Uses the card images for easy referencing Has both Ardus and Kari's abilities coded in, so your list will adjust automagically when you add or remove them Kari's obviously only matters now if you have unreleased stuff shown, but even then since we don't have deepwood archers' card back spoiled yet, you can't really do much. But hey, I'm ready! A "latest lists" page, so you can take a look at what other people are doing: http://tabletopadmiral.com/runewars/lists/ Planned Features (Rougly in order of when I plan to do them, but I make no promises.)
Replace the code generation stuff at the bottom with share-link generation instead so you don't have to make sure you're on the right faction's page to plug in a list code Copy to clipboard button for easily pasteable list for forum use and such Replace upgrade card images with better quality ones Hopefully replace the units' FFG card spread images with a single image of the front and a single image of the back stacked vertically to save some screen space Improve the layout of the lists page. Would like to add the faction icons instead of having them spelled out like they are now, for quicker visual scanning. Detailed print view with all the upgrade info. Want to help?
I could use good, clean, straight, .png scans with transparent backgrounds of the upgrade cards and unit cards. It would be about a week before I can actually get my hands on the cards (I keep all my stuff at a friend's house since he's the main person I play with), so I can do it, but if someone else could do it sooner, that would be great. I noticed the ones on the wiki have a watermark on them, which I don't want to use. Do post here though if you plan to do it. I'd hate for 2 people to do it at the same time and one of you to be wasting your time. Have a way to get a clean .png of the faction images? They're in the bottom left of the faction-specific upgrade cards, but I really haven't seen them anywhere else. They wouldn't need to be big, I'd just like to use them on the lists page, so really about the height of this text or a little bigger would be fine if anyone is good at cleaning up such things. I could do it eventually, but I do have a job and am trying to implement all the above things, so why not outsource? This takes up a lot of my personal time to maintain, as well as hosting fees (admittedly small, but right now I'm at $2/mo on patreon so it's coming out of my pocket!). I have no delusions of making a bunch of (or any) money doing this. I'm learning web development and this has been and is a great learning project. I would really appreciate it if you considered just throwing me $1/mo on Patreon here: https://www.patreon.com/andrewinge (Mods, let me know if this is not okay and I'll remove it). Alternatively, find me a remote job doing web development. Only half-joking. Actually like 1/4 joking at most.  What I could use your feedback on
Do you care about the builder knowing what you own and adjusting accordingly, or are you okay with just seeing everything and adding unlimitedly? The set that a unit/upgrade comes from is shown below its image when you select it. If you do want to be able to select what you own, how would you like that to work? Tell it how many stands of each unit you own? Just tell it what you bought? I know some people trade or buy specific things in a way that's different from FFG packaging, so I wondered if a la cart would make the most sense? (ex: Reanimate Archers: 5 bases, and so on) Would you want a "free-for-all" view, where you can just add whatever you want from all factions with no restrictions on anything? I guess this would make it more like my IA builder. Is the layout/arrangement ideal? Any gripes or things that would be useful? Of course, keeping desktop AND mobile in mind, I can only do so much, but I'm open to opinions. Anything else. Whaddya want?
So much for succinct. In summary, check it out, if you like it, throw me $1/mo to help out on Patreon. Find me a web dev job. Let me know what you'd like changed or added. Thanks for all the kind words thus far.

The thing I don't understand is why you seem to think that if people don't play right at this moment they never will. If you have played so many miniatures games, why the short sighted opinion? The first year of x wing it was tough to find people that played even here in FFGs back yard. Now there is a store doing at least casual play every single night of the week with great attendance. How many 40k players are there right now that have been playing since 1987?
Games grow and change and people get in when they get in. Yes it sucks to have to wait for your faction. I would've loved it f they could've waited to get more out before launch, but with most of thier production going to catching up on Destiny, it just wasn't feasible. It's fine, give it time.

Let's go ahead and address the original question, too, now that you mention it. It's a good example with an answer that isn't immediately obvious.

So, Blue charges Red, squares up as shown, and eliminates a tray.

Now, Blue can perform a Close In as per RR-17.1 "To close in, a unit performs a speed-1 shift action and must collide with the enemy unit it was recently engaged with - the enemy unit that had one or more of its trays removed. If there is a collision with that unit, the unit squares up as normal, but any other game effects that are triggered when units collide are ignored"

RR-18 states "After a unit is [sic] performs a march or shift action, if it is touching an obstacle that it was not touching before performing that action, it has collided with that obstacle"

This means that Blue can either shift forward or to the side to collide and thus re-engage Red.

Blue chooses to shift forward, into the gap left by the empty tray.

Now, when Red attacks Blue, Red is engaged along two contacted edges. As per RR 82.1 "If the attacker has multiple contacted edges with the defender, the attacker chooses which contacted edge to use"

In this case, both contacted edges have two trays, and so Red's threat would be two.

I think the lesson here is... don't do that. Shift to the side.

Last we played on a 3x6, I forced my opponent into a 5 in/5 up deployment in the center and I had the entire long edge 3 up.  I bulked up the middle as much as I could across from him and put my two Oathsworn on the extreme sides to force him to always think about the eventual flank attempts
