Look, I realize you draw a lot of satisfaction from your incessant whining, but other than you, I dont see anybody anywhere , including my own table and one I have friends in, having these problems and hating the game for it.
I dont know what you compare it to, we ve had this conversation elsewhere, but I am comparing it to other current RPG rulesets, and its pretty much in the middle of those. Some are mechanically more robust, some are less. Since you seem to be mostly entertained my whining about the same thing, for months now, in every possible thread, without actually ever offering much to the discussion but constant bashing of a product you do not enjoy, I am simply discarding your opinion at this point. You got the biggest chip on your shoulder of everyone here. Its not everyone ELSE being wrong by defending an indefensible product.
Or your GM is simply bad. Bad GMs create bad experiences. I am starting to suspect that might be the problem. For example, you still dont know how to handle Mr. High-Earth-Hida, and your answers have made it abundantly clear you dont really grasp how encounter design works, instead always going for the argumentative extreme. And if you care to recall, there are solutions to said Hida that have nothing to do with ignoring armor. Last but not least, you argue with a PvP perspective. Again, if your GM is big on PvP, he is probably not well suited for tabletop RPGs, and you d all be better off with the tighter rulesets of boardgames or tabletop strategy.
You want garbage rules? I present to you DnD 3.0, the entire WH40k line by FFG, Star Wars D20 and Iron Kingdoms. L5R problems PALE in comparison, as these systems produce overpowered insane combos by ACCIDENT, whereas in L5R you have to at least try.
But i am tiring of this. If you cant add anything to the discussion except "its OP, its trash, as is the entire game" for 50+ posts, it would be the wise thing to do and remain silent.
Btw, your answer shows you havent the grasp of the rules that you seem to think you have, AGAIN. Acquisition of items is a downtime action. Taking a shikigami out of your pocket is an action, meaning unless you are in water stance, thats the only thing you do, at which point everyone is free to shoot/burn/hit/spellcast on the shikigami for an entire round. Not to mention pocket-sized paper shikigami are quite limited in what they could do.

Natural animals often have "flee" as their unmasking response, so it's fair to say that fear is a source of strife.
I prefer to use meditation checks rather than throwing circumstantial strife at characters. I make the TN appropriately high, with earth approach usually getting a TN reduction. Failure results in gaining strife equal to the net difference. This is more of a passive effect, giving creatures who wish to intimate using fire, another action to throw strife.

    My write-up was this:
Rules: Sadane is an intrigue conflict. All rings can be used. As a Scheme action, the participants take turns making Courtesy TN 2 checks to insult their opponent, on a success, they gain Momentum Points equal to 1 plus Bonus Successes. Players and the DM must word their insults, no longer than a sentence or two. They have a minute to come up with a line.
They get a Bonus Success for a good insult (as judged by the GM) and a free Opportunity if the insult took up the previous line of the opponent. An insult playing with an opponents secrets or Disadvantages causes 2 strife. The game ends when one of the sides reaches 10 Momentum Points or bows out of the competition. The game begins with the ritual phrase “My dear”.

The idea is that both the character design should play a role as well as what the players come up with as insults.

This will be my last comment on this thread: I will leave the last word to you. You posted a message that had no content or value other than sneering at someone for making a post that you claimed had no value. Then you insulted them personally. If you can't tell that your posting was deliberately offensive then I feel sorry for you and anyone who has to deal with you on a regular basis.

I had written some rules for Sadane duels and wrote a Sadane exchange for my players as an example:

“My dear, it’s good to see that you enjoy the regional cuisine so very much.”

“You should try it. You seem to be only drinking all the time.”

“I fear it is not for me. I do not have your rural upbringing.”

“Well, not all of us are so blessedly free of any upbringing.”

“As you bring it up, I see you hope the fashion of your youth comes back into style.”

“You’ll have to forgive me. My youth wasn’t as long ago as yours.”

“Oh, I am used to forgiving you all your many mistakes.”

“Speaking of mistakes, is your hair meant to resemble a crane’s nest?”

“We all must use what we have. Not long, and your hair with be that of a crab.”

Thanks everyone!  There are some great ideas, and I appreciate the comments.  The game is this Saturday, and I thought I would share what I settled on...
"I enjoyed your opening comment, I hear children shouting the same thing at one another and it always makes me laugh." "Your wit is like a fishing pole with no hook." "Your words, they are like a blade with no handle." or "like a paper lantern in the rain." or "like a single chopstick at mealtime." "Whew, someone smells like early spring..." (interrupting) "Huh??  Was an inoshishi (wild pig) just caught?? Oh... you were speaking.  I'm so sorry, please, continue." "Please, take your time.  Someone so old as you can become forgetful, I can wait for you to catch up."  (none of the PCs are older than 20 years) Everything else I am hoping to handle on the fly.  Like I said, I just wanted a few written down in case I needed them, and you all inspired me.

Also, a bit of (hopefully good) news relating to the character sheets.  I'm working with AltitudeMatters to revamp the rendering system with the end goal of getting prettier output.
I've given him a 'statblock' setup to test with, and figure out what updates/changes he needs in the application, but the first real sheet will be based on the sheet at https://www.dojotabletop.com/roleplayinggames and I'm also looking at mimicking the sheet from the book once that is done.  The goal is that, once it's fully setup, anybody with the right skill-sets ought to be able to do custom sheet designs.
It's a bit of a long-term project, and there's a number of unknowns, so I can't give any sort of timeline on it, but I figured people would like to know that it's coming.

"Oh yeah? Well the Jerk Store called, and they're running out of YOU!"

Of course, the really good insults are going to be personal.  Little snipes at fashion and such are fine when you're just looking to make your friends smile behind their fans, and are probably a standard hazing when someone new shows up at court.  Be sure to have plenty of these ready to give your PCs a hard time, and if they handle themselves well, they earn a bit of respect.
And sometimes you want to ruin someone's day.  When your enemy is waiting for an audience with the Daimyo, that's the time to bring up his drinking problem, and his sister's recent cowardice at the Battle of Sleeping River.  This is, of course, dangerous territory.

I think @Avatar111 and @Franwax expressed some interest in a tool to make NPCs quickly and easily.  I have put together a few lines of javascript that I'm going to use to track NPCs, NPC stances in skirmishes, maybe even generate semi-random NPCs on the fly.  I made it for myself, but if it can be useful to others that is a bonus.
To use, download all files in the directory to the same folder then open 'GMScreen' in chrome.  I have not tested in other browsers.
It is not completely finished yet, still in a beta state, I still need to iron out a few issues with the Animal and Creature archetypes.  If you find bugs, or if something does not seem to be working correctly, it would be very kind if you could please take a screenshot of the screen, then press CTRL+Shift+i and take a screenshot of that screen too, and send the screenshots to me, so that I can find and fix the bug.
The NPC builder lets you select archetypes from a preloaded set, based on the archetypes in the Core Book.  For human NPCs, a template (based on the templates in the Core book) can be applied that modifies rings and skills and adds advantages and disadvantages, then a clan and school can be chosen which add a ring increase and add some more advantages and disadvantages.  Hit ‘save NPC’ and look in the library for that character.  Hit ‘add to skirmish’ to add the NPC to the ‘skirmish tracker’.

I don’t love the armor/wound system in 5R5.  This rule is intended to accomplish 2 things.
    1. Make a shower of low deadliness critical strikes worthwhile.
    2. Reduce the number of shirtless samurai on the battlefield.
The rule is simple: each scene, you can take only 1 critical strike at any given wound tier. So 1 “close call,” 1 “flesh wound,” 1 “permanent injury,” etc. if a wound hits that tier again, you step it up to the next tier.
    Thoughts?

    -Conditions and Critical Strikes fixes:

All the following changes assume you are playing with the sidebar rule on p.270 (repeated injury).
The purpose is to make combat more cinematic and more intense (incapacitated condition fix). It doesn't really affect the deadliness of combat, it is simply more fun and fixes a few weird loopholes with critical severity, severely wounded condition, and the stacking of such.

Dying condition:  Add: If you suffer from the Dying Condition, you perish if you take any critical strike of severity above 0 after the resist check.

Severely Wounded condition:  Effects: A Severely Wounded character increases the TN of their checks with the affected ring by 3.
If the character suffers the Lightly Wounded or Severely Wounded condition for the same ring, they instead suffer the effects of a severity 8 critical strike for that ring as if they had failed the check to resist it.

Incapacitated condition:  Change it to: Effects: An Incapacitated character increases the TN of all action checks by 2. An Incapacitated character cannot defend against damage. After an Incapacitated character suffers a critical strike, they suffer the Unconscious condition in addition to any other effects.

    CRITICAL STRIKES TABLE:
change/modify the following critical severity outcomes:

7-8 Permanent Injury: If the character was not Severely Wounded for the ring used for their resist check, the character suffers the Severely Wounded condition for that ring. The character also suffers the Bleeding condition, then chooses one of the following scar disadvantages for the ring they used for their check to resist: Air (Maimed visage or Nerve Damage), Earth (Damaged Organ or Fractured Spine), Fire (Lost Fingers or Maimed Arm), Water (Lost Eye or Lost Foot), Void (Lost Memories).
9-11 Maiming Blow: If the character was not Severely Wounded for the ring used for their resist check, the character suffers the Severely Wounded condition for that ring. The character also suffers the Bleeding condition, then chooses one of the following scar disadvantages for the ring they used for their check to resist: Air (Deafness or Muteness), Earth (Damaged Heart or Damaged Organ), Fire (Lost Arm or Lost Hand), Water (Blindness or Lost Leg), Void (Cognitive Lapses).
12-13 Agonising Death: If the character was not Severely Wounded for the ring used for their resist check, the character suffers the Severely Wounded condition for that ring. The character also suffers the Bleeding and the Dying (3 rounds) conditions, then chooses one of the following scar disadvantages for the ring they used for their check to resist: Air (Deafness or Muteness), Earth (Damaged Heart or Damaged Organ), Fire (Lost Arm or Lost Hand), Water (Blindness or Lost Leg), Void (Cognitive Lapses).
14-15 Swift Death: If the character was not Severely Wounded for the ring used for their resist check, the character suffers the Severely Wounded condition for that ring. The character also suffers the Bleeding and the Dying (1 rounds) conditions, then chooses one of the following scar disadvantages for the ring they used for their check to resist: Air (Deafness or Muteness), Earth (Damaged Heart or Damaged Organ), Fire (Lost Arm or Lost Hand), Water (Blindness or Lost Leg), Void (Cognitive Lapses).

Your haiku was a triumph, but the audience was a disaster. You may be the only man I’ve met who fell in love with himself at a young age and has remained faithful ever since. I'm certain your honoured Mother is looking down on you from Heaven. Not simply because she sadly passed on, but because as I recall we had very similar opinions of you. I hope your day is as pleasant as you are. I treasure the time I don't spend with you. Well, what doesn't kill you...isn't going to get the other half of the fee from me.

Hidden Shrine is my website. It is basically based on my campaigns I run - so when I run a new L5R campaign I will add more to it.  It will be a while because the group I play with are doing pathfinder at the moment (and there was a big break between me RPing too).
I have a new campaign in mind which will be set in Naishou Province, But I'll post any maps or other material here and on my site for people.
Also I may map Botsu Mura before then - not gonna lie. I like the concept of a swamp village. =P
On a side note - my Takauro maps were for an introductory adventure which was the Falcon's Hollow Pathfinder module, but heavily converted. Some third party adventures do work in L5R with a bit of.... work. =P

Edit: Paper Blossoms is now available!  Latest version is: 1.1.0
I'm happy to present Paper Blossoms, an unofficial open source character generator for Legend of the 5 Rings!
We've currently got data entered and code working for everything published to date, and it supports adding user-created data (so you can play with that Nekoma samurai you've always wanted).  The application does expect you to own and use the book! As you'd expect, if FFG objects to anything here, I'll remove/change it immediately.
Releases can be downloaded directly from https://github.com/dashnine/PaperBlossoms/releases .
As was the case with Oggdude's excellent Star Wars generator, this does not currently include descriptions -- it does include page references, and space for users to enter description information, as well as basic mechanical information. The ring display was borrowed from art found on imperialadvisor.com and modified for the application (that may go too, if FFG or imperial advisor objects  ).

Let me know what you guys think!
Note: Screenshots reflect an older build. Current experience may differ.
