TrentL reacted to Forgottenlore in Rebel Strategy: moving the base
Yeah, when you move the base, the first thing you do is reveal the location of the old one. As soon as you do that, all of the units on the rebel base space get placed on the actual planet, so they don't move with it.

Thanks for all the great idea's I was thinking of printing off some cheat sheets I found on board game geeks, and setting up the base game then having people play 1-2 turns (Depending on how the interest is) and rotate new people in after a turn, 1 full turn gives you a moderate taste of the game minus combat

Now I'm confused. The ability says something like all heroes within 3 spaces gain heal 1 HP by surge.

My question is, let's say hero "A" rolls 1 surge while attacking with a throwing dagger. He have to CHOOSE if he will spend in +1 range OR gain +1 HP? Or both things can happen?

TrentL reacted to Omnislash024 in I get the feeling that Descent is nearing it's end...
I think to summarize Descent 2nd Edition, is to say it is a tactical battle type game, where both sides have an objective. Things that can effect it are of course where and how you move and what kind of damage and defense your dice allow you to roll. So to dislike it for being what it is, that's fine, but I don't think it should be expected to be anything else.

I never owned Descent 1st Edition, in fact didn't much know about 2nd Edition until recently. As to how Death in 1st Edition is described though, it makes me wonder if some of the quests or material were even seen or played. No conquest points and the game ends? Must have been hard to see or experience the ending quests then. I also remember how it was in Hero's Quest. A hero died and he was dead. You had to make another one from scratch. So to me anyway, Death in 2nd Edition ( Knock out) I don't mind so much. Players who have their heroes Koed don't feel left out, are fighting to be useful again. The Overlord gets reinforcements- an endless supply of monsters- so it balances out. Also the Overlord gets to draw a OL card or gain a threat token. Those can add up.

TrentL reacted to Zaltyre in Newb questions: Lieutenant Packs & Heroes & Monsters (Quests)
Yes. MOST agents are only prohibited from specific quests. Very specific agents are barred from entire campaigns- for example, you cannot summon zachareth into the shadow rune. Note:
When an agent is barred from a quest, be is barred from the whole quest, not just the encounter. You cannot summon the splig agent into encounter 1 or 2 of Fat Goblin.
Also, blocking an agent does not block their plot deck. You can use the Mirklace deck during the Shadow of Nerekhall, but the "summon mirklace" and mirklace agent cards are useless.

I actually don't want a 4th edition. To me the game is about as close to perfect as you can get. Just do another expansion every 5 years it so to add some new races, units, tech and such.

Just an update ... we bought the game my family chose Tahlia as a Knight, Andira (Disciple), and Astarra (The necromancer) ((I think we did this right choose an arch-type and a class, seemed funny to see Astarra as a necro but anyway))

Worked out well I managed to get 4 out of the 5 goblins through... before poor Mauler was brought down ... I'm still getting the hang of the overlord ... but man was it fun... SO glad I chose Descent.

I ask because in my trials to find a game to introduce my kids to with campaign like play ... Descent I thought was it... but I hear gameplay wise IA is alot better ... I'd hate to buy into DE2 to find out that that a DE3 will be released .... I'd rather buy IA (Since my girls are bonkers for Star Wars as well... (If they only made Dr. Who campaigns... they would be in heaven lol))

I think we'll see some years before a third edition comes out, but it will, one day.

I never played Descent 1. I just bought Descent 2 and started playing the base game and its campaign with some friends of mine. We find it a lot of fun, I am really glad I bought it. From what I have seen so far the campaign itself has some randomness because there are more quests per phase then you play. And then what heroes and what monsters are chosen add a lot of variation. Especially on the hero side. I could see getting several campaigns and it not feeling like the same thing over and over. And there are easy ways to add some variety to the base game. You can buy Heirs Of Blood campaign book, for example, and have a completely new campaign with nothing else to buy after you own the base set.
I assume you are playing the overlord? One thing I do worry about is how tough this game can be if you want to play competitive. The heroes, and overlord for that matter, need to have synergy. You might have to "play nice" so they have fun. For an example, and I hope this isn't to spoiler, in one of the acts I used shadow dragons to block a hallway and just ran my objective for victory basically uncontested. You might want to think about how you play the overlord based on there skill level. One suggestion too is you can buy a co=op pack and play on the same team.

Just reacting on the "wife/daughter prefers female characters"
For some reason I still chock people when I say that I played Fable II as a female Dark Elf with evil alignment who was married to another female human and had three other female lovers on the side, plus one man (I had to try that). The question I got was, surprisingly, not about why my characters had so many lovers and why I was playing on my various relationships, but why I did all this using a female character
Joke aside, my daughter (6.5 yo) also tends to go for female characters, but tell yours that Durik has a Wolf pet with him and see if she is interested. Anything involving animals, or funny looks, can well work as well. Descent as many of these strange weirdo characters.
By the way I think there's a H&M pack out there featuring 4 female heroes, that's probably the one you should look into getting.

    My favourite line:

"You'll need to protect your components, or they won't last long against those card destroyers. Luckily Fantasy Flight have made buying card sleeves easy, by making game cards in only 3 completely different sizes, eliminating the need to purchase 4 or more sleeve types"

    "How convenient..."

    this is not technically correct

the command tokens are not Garm's ability

Garm's ability just hands them out

if Garm is dead and you hit round 5, he does not hand out command tokens. Simple as that.

This is true of every single commander, Motti is the only exception in that his ability is permanent and not a trigger (at the start round 1 and 5, and the start of each round, once per round when attacking, when you spend an evade token, when an enemy ship receives a face-up damage card...).

It still goes away when he dies, just like everyone else's. The two extra damage you had to deal to kill him, however, don't magically disappear. You just lose the benefit of his presence (the extra hull on other ships), just as you lose the ability to trigger any of the other commanders when they're too busy being dead.

    you lose your extra hull
    you lose your super evades
you lose your ability to modify dice
you lose your ability to cherry pick crits
you lose your command token generation each round
you lose your command token generation on rounds 1 & 5
