alboy said: The Warlock Quest card says you win the game if you reach the Crown of Command with 4 quests completed, what happens if there is a Character already on the Crown. ls this one of the only ways of completing the game now if you one choose before you start the game. I think if you choose to play the game this way, then reaching the CoC with all 4 quests won is the ONLY way to win, rather than using the option of the CoC spell. So no-one would attempt the inner region until they have completed all 4 quests, then when they do and are successful in reaching the CoC, they win. That's what I think anyway.

Dam said: BI Assassin reads: "... or any Enemy that is already face up when you land on it." He also couldn't use it against Pit Fiends or Werewolf. If you go with the FFG definition of Enemy, then even the Sentinel was non-Assassinatable. Because IIRC "enemy" is a card with the actual word "enemy" on it, right? So as you say, the Sentinel is NOT an enemy as such, and so can't be assassinated. So that rule was made quite clear then in the BI version.

"Experience" for random/player encounters?

Pinky said: I have played with JCH's rules for trophy-less trophies and it has been working well. Then we realised that a S10 or so character could quickly increase his or her strength by crossing and re-crossing the Sentinal's bridge. A lucky Troll could win very quickly this way. This would not be such a problem if there were a similar option for Craft-dominant characters. You raise a good argument with the Sentinel. I thought it a little unfair if you was to fight an enemy on a space and not gain the trophy points, but with complications like this, I'd rather stick to the rule as Dam pointed out. -
Thanks Dam. I have been playing it so that when you draw one of these cards, you don't take a life/strength/craft straight away because the card was drawn, not landed on. But the rules do state that we must encounter adventure cards drawn, so I wanted to be clear. Mentioning the Assassin for a second, the rule I am giving him of only being able to assassinate face-up cards will still apply then, even though he effectively IS landing on a card he draws from the pack (it is not face-up on the board, therefore the enemy attacks him). Right?

Nice easy question for you guys- If I move to a space where I draw an adventure card for the space (as there isn't one on there already), and it is the "pool of life" for example, which gives a player a life when ever he "lands" on it, does that mean I can collect a life straight away? Or do I put four life counters on the card on my space, because I technically didn't "land" on the card itself? It is a little confusing, because with the Pool of Life as an example, why doesn't it tell you to take one for yourself, then leave another 3 on the card for the next visitors to land on it?

Did the BI edition ever menion in its rule book as to when a character would attack an enemy rather than the enemy attack the character? It would be strange if the rule for the BI Assassin mentioned he can only use his skill when attacking, but not mention in the rules when characters are doing the attacking rather than the other way round. 2nd, 3rd, and revised 4th edition rule books never mention when the character is doing the attacking. Rather, they just state you can "encounter" the cards on the space you land on.

Velhart said: I think that the Warlock will become one of my favorites ! At the start of your turn, you get your full complement of spells.. If you have each time at least 1 spell at the start of your turn, you can can cast everytime 1 spell in your turn, by choosing 1 of the 2 spells you have ! Very good, unless you also use a spell in your opponent turn.. But this will increase if he reach 6 craft by allowing 3 spells each turn.. Cool ! i want to try him out.. Yes, and he begins with a Craft value of 5, so he will always have 2 spells (gaining the full compliment every turn). Now that's power! Hopefully he will be balanced with the other characters though- I wouldn't want him to be TOO powerful.

Velhart said: Yeah, it's a bit weird that the warlock character can earn himself a talisman.. Yes, in fact, it will be the case even in a normal game of Talisman. The Warlock can land on his own space, and give himself a quest to complete, in order for him to reward himself with a talisman he already owns Well done FFG, you have topped the Assassin fiasco

Velhart said: It looks like that the new 24 warlocks cards are more difficult to complete than the old ones. One card says that you need to discard 2 objects.. This can be very dangerous, ( if there is also a card that you lose 2 magic objects...then you have bad luck.. You cannot choose or wait until you found more. As soon you have the stuff that the warlock card ask, you are directly teleported to the warlock and lose those stuff... I see myself already losing solomon's crown or a magic belt or something else.. Actually, if you are on another space when you give up your items (for example) then you are not teleported to his space, according to the rules on that card. "Characters do not receive any rewards (ie being teleported to the warlocks cave and gaining a talisman) for completing their first 3 warlock quests". Does anyone else think it odd that if you play the Warlock and play the warlock quest ending, then you are basically playing the game so you can complete quests you have essentially asked yourself to do, so you can reward yourself with a talisman when you complete them? Why wouldn't he just give himself the talisman in the first place if he has it? This goes back to my previous post- perhaps they are two different warlocks after all.
-
Velhart said: Not bad, i will like this ending At least, it's better than killing each other at the crown.. Agreed. I always wanted more quest-type gameplay in the game. Better more advanced quests would have been nice, but having to complete 4 quests should help make up for their simplicity. So, you have to complete the 4 quests to gain your talisman, then you automatically win on the CoC when you get there. Sounds great, and should help add variety to the game. You know, we could use these rules now with the Reaper quest cards. Anyone wanna try and see how it plays out? Just noticed something on the Talisman Island post- he states the Warlock character is "the Warlock himself" meaning the one from the Warlock space. Yet, if you look at the Warlock card underneath, the two characters look nothing alike. So perhaps they are two different warlocks. Then again the character does start on that space. Maybe they are best buddies. If they are the same character, the least FFG could have done was made sure he looked the same in each picture.

Fair enough Redsimon. You are happy with that rule, and it seems a decent one. I am happy with the rule of only assassinating face-up cards only or characters. And some others are happy with him being able to assassinate anything with a strength score. Each to their own.

Dam said: I played about 20-30 games with the BI 4th edition, Toad-rate was 1 per game. Random spell or Witch were the causes. Fate totally ruined that ratio. Less than 1 in 10 games now. Heck, the Reaper has killed more people than have been Toaded (5 vs 4). Part of the reason for the drop in the ratio is the added number of Spells and Adventure cards, but even without Fate replenish from the board, people save Fate "just in case". Perhaps you may like to have a house rule (I know you like 'em) where if the result of a die roll is the player turning into a toad, then you turn into a toad before you are able to use a fate counter. In other words, you can't use fate if the result is the toad.

Dam said: Velhart said: It would be nice if there is a real quest deck of some sorts, that you must save a princess Hmm, if I take the Warlock's Quest and have Princess, I hope I drew the discard 1 Follower so I can give her to the Warlock for experiments/slavehood/whatever . Very few better feelings than knowing you doomed the Princess to a life of hell, especially if you're a Knight. Guides and Prince are #1 choices for Vampire's Tower. Hehe! You really need to see a psychiatrist you evil sod -
Dam said: Yeah, and Toads. Sadly, both are very lacking . To boot, Reaper didn't land on anyone today. But I can live with that, seeing the Sage get PvP'd until he died was just SO sweet. I personally think toads are a waste of cardboard and plastic. Never saw anyone turned into one with the 3rd edition. 2 games into the 4th, same. I can't even remember anyone being a toad when I had the 2nd edition all those years ago.

Velhart said: If i begin to play the game, we give each player 3 character cards at random and then you can choose with wich character you want to play.. I like that rule Yes that sounds a very good rule, my friend. I think we shall be doing the same.

Velhart said: But i do not attack other players so much.. unless they really have something or i can kill them.. But i am not very excited that he has that ability... For me, the Assassin is not interesting enough.. Maybe it's because that i want to go on a adventure and i am not interested in beating other players The Sorceress is a character who has only ability's that can be use on your other players if you land on those characters.. It's very nasty, but i don't want to follow my opponent each time to steal something from their character.. That's fair enough that you don't like to attack other players that much. But as you said with the sorceress, some characters abilities are more or less focused on PvP's, so when you play them, you may have to change your strategy to encounter more characters or face losing the game. The same with the Assassin. If there are no face up cards, why not slow the other players down if the opportunity arises? You have to kill them off when you get to the CoC anyway- so why wait He is strong enough playing with these rules, if you play him with the right strategy.

I think it will look weird if the Ice Queen is standing in the inner realm. What I would have liked, perhaps, would be a whole new inner realm overlay, where it has been consumed in ice and snow, with all new space encounters and the Ice Queens palace in the middle for you to reach. Now THAT would have been something to really look forward to. Still, I like the idea of having various quests to complete, especially as some of the quests are so simple. Having 4 of them would make up for that slightly.

Who thinks the Warlocks Quests are too simple/boring?
wastedyuthe replied to wastedyuthe's topic in Talisman
Agreed Velhart. The cards are indeed much better than rolling the dice. It's a shame they didn't do that in the first place, as we have rules on that space now that don't apply. Don't get me wrong, I also agree that FFG have done a superb job (bar confusion with some rules such as the assassin ), and am extremely happy with it. But, there is always room for improvement, and the quest cards were most certainly under-developed. Perhaps with more developed quests, they could have even added more rules- complete 3 quests and the warlock transports you to the CoC! Imagine that! Can anyone think of quests they would like to see, out of interest? -
Velhart said: But some other characters have more abilities than only one... The assassin can do nothing more.. A opponent can try to defeat all face up enemies before the assassin can reach them ( for example) And what's left is just standard attacks.. It takes too much turns, if you want to land exactly on a enemie if he is not defeated yet, so he can finaly use his skill... You are forgetting what I mentioned above- that he also has the very powerful ability to assassinate another character. Assassinate another character a few times and they may have to start all over again! I think that's a strong enough ability coupled with assassinating face-up cards- especially if there are enough players. Of course, the lower the amount of players, the less chance he has of landing on one though. When I played the sorceress last night, I had to change my strategy then, landing on other characters as much as possible, as her abilities are focused on that. Same for the Assassin when there are no face up cards.

katana_one said: The Assassin is 2/0 since I bought my game 3 or 4 weeks ago, and we played that he could only assassinate face-up enemies and characters that he lands on. In both games the Assassin was still pretty much unstoppable. I don't want to know how bad he would be if we had played him as written. The thing is, even with his power reduced to only being effective on face-down cards, he still has the massive advantage of assassinating any other players character he lands on too. I personally think that is powerful enough. I will stick by the rule that he is attacking when he lands on a face-down card or character. It isn't strictly written in the rules, but as they state the creature attacks the character on a drawn card, to me it is the only logical time when he would be attacking- it makes perfect sense (especially when you take into account that you are the attacking player when you land on another character), and so does the wording for his ability if you go by that rule. I don't care what the official word is, that is how I will play him now.

lucky roller said: The Assassin is fine. That's a matter of opinion. How easily he wins isn't the only issue. He is also boring to play if you are allowed to assassinate every creature (not craft) you meet. I got bored watching my wife beat every opponent. I could tell she was getting thoroughly bored too.
