  1. Min-maxing is only problem for those, who can't use a player's disadvantages against him.
  2. jackdays said: Yes, but still nothing really about the system. We now know, that there can be random selections of race and career with cards. Also we know that rest is dividing points (or buying with points). Here is few things: Races: Reikland Humans only. Interesting way to present this. So, there will some new "Sigmar's Heirs" package, with other Empire Provinces. And then maybe Bretonnia, with cards for all provinces. Entries & Exits: Is there Entries and Exits in the careers (we havent been able to see really other side of the card)? I mean Barber-Surgeon definitely is BASIC CAREER for Humans and Dwarfs? But what other careers can move to become it or what is next for it? Career Races: BASIC CAREER: HUMAN or DWARF. What does that mean - Well, I would say no Elf surgeons. Ok, logical. But what about when you add Halflings? Do they not have Barber-Surgeons? Somehow it just seem the future is not that taught. Card Sidebars: Also noticed that sidebars REPUTATION and FOCUS are different with Coachman? Skills & Talents: Are those Career skills in the card ALL the Skills and former Talents for this career? It's more simple, but it wasn't that bad before... I mean many good Askills/talents are missing... Advances do include TALENT 1 for Barber-Surgeon. SO, maybe there is pool of open Talents available still... -Races: Yep, I'm sure there'll be expansions. I just hope, that they whole Empire will be in one book/boxed, not spread out in smaller expansions... -Entries and Exits: I suppose the cost of career change depends on how many keywords match with your current, and planned career. -Career Races: They are planning other races, but who knows what the future brings, so it's better not write down anything, what comes to their minds. By the way, I hope we'll get ogres in an expansion. Warhammer has the best ogres. -Card Sidebars: Maybe because the Coachman gets REPUTATION and TACTIC, insted of REPUTATION and FOCUS... -Skills &Talents: Many skills were merged, those are written on the Career Sheet. Talents now work a "bit" different. There are three kind of them: Tactic, Reputation and Focus. I think Tactic is for combat, Reputation helps social interactions in some way, and Focus maybe grants skill bonuses. Anyway, you can have two active at a time, but you can put some on the party sheet, so the other party members can use them too.
  3. Well, 2ed barber surgeon also has charm. After all, a good doctor needs to calm the patients. Oh, and don't forget Sweeney Todd. He was a quite charming fellow too, and also a barber, and a hobby-surgeon.
  4. Best and most informative preview so far - well, at least for me. Few thing I noticed: -Cool skill names. Guile, Resilience, Discipline, and the best: Skulduggery, which reminds me Wizardry 7. -Man, that barber surgeon looks nasty. I hope one day I can play one, with some added Gregory House and Jason influence... -It's confirmed, that the basic box focuses on the Reikland, and it's area. I'm sure we'll see an Empire boxed set soon. I like the people of Middenland better. And those bastards who drink hot beer, and whose name I always forget...
  5. D&D is a "general fantasy rpg" since the beginning. It never included a setting. Of course it has some default gods from i.e. Greyhawk, so you has something to begin with. But the "points of light" is just a buzzword for a concept, not a setting. Also, as I pointed out earlier somewhere, most of you plays fantasy rpgs in PoL style since the beginning - especially if you play Warhammer. Nothing new under the sun.
  6. Thanks. I've been waiting for this since the announcement of 3rd edition.
  7. ynnen said: The four books in the core set are softcover. Making them hardcover would have both increased the price and the physical dimensions enough to require a slightly larger box -- which would have also increased the price. Okay, thanks for the answer. Now there's only one thing left I'd like to know about the "physical manifestation" of the new WFRP. We already know the weight of the box. But how big is the box exactly?
  8. macd21 said: Peacekeeper_b said: So instead of finding the rule in a book (with index and table of contents), I have to find the card in a deck of 300? No. You hold only those cards iny your hand, which ones your character needs. Probably somewhere between 20-50. The 300 cards include wounds, insanities, all tha abilities, spell, prayers, careers, et cetera. Or you could still look it up from the book, if that's what makes you feel true roleplayer...
  9. Somewhere it was mentioned, that they are 96-128 pages hardcover books. I just can't find it, where. But tell me, what was the last time you saw a softcover, full-color rpg rulebook?
  10. Fox said: The first time I see the covers of the books, it remember me too much of D&D cover, very too much for my taste. I hate the cover. Why not a full cover of the drawing characters like the cover of the box. Wow, that would remind us D&D4e PHB covers. But honestly: you can't make a cover that D&D didn't already during it's 35 years. Stil, box cover is totally awesome.
  11. Dreary_Angel said: The fact is that we still do not know what the career progression will be... will we have basic careers and advanced careers? will there be multiple "levels" for every career? It seems that you can jump from one to another, as Mr. Little explained somewhere (can't remember if it was in the gen con videos or where) based on you present career's "keywords" but it reamains to be seen how this will be handled... Take a look at the Trollslayer career card. One of the keywords is "basic". I suppose this means there will be basic and advenced careers.
  12. I paid $39,95 + delivery costs for the 188 pages long, hardcover, but black & white Mongoose Traveller book. After that, the new Warhammer seems cheap.
  13. I hope we'll have roadwarden, protagonist and pit fighter careers too, and witch or warlcok for NPCs. Kislevite kosar, norse berserker are unlikely, since the core books are focusing on the Empire.
  14. Thanks! The video cleared up a few things. Although the "stance-o-meter" was a bit too much after all these bits and the dice pool, so far I'm impressed with the refreshing new ideas. And ****, that was some huge amount of description on the back of the Troll Slaye career card! And since most of the rules are on cards, I hope this means that the books are full with fluff.
  15. Or the same amount, divided... But sure, new players always mean new elves.
  16. What kind of WFRP previews would you like to see in the coming weeks (months)? Since most of us already knows a lot about the setting's background (or can find the info in the dark corners of the internet), I suppose we should get more previews about the new game elements and mechanics, which are still misty or unknown. My wishes: -A full character sheet. -At least two career previews - one old career (Rat Catcher), one new career (War Dancer). -A skill test or combat example, to learn more about the custom dices and actions. -Wounds and insanity. There's no Warhammer adventure without one or both of them. I also hope, we'll see a short preview adventure before the release of the game, with printable pre-generated characters, action cards, and a guide, how to simulate the custom dices with the usual ones - for example: 1 is chaos symbol, 2 is hammer, 3 is dancing drunk naked dwarf, etc... What about you?
  17. Dwarves. Everyone loves dwarves in Warhammer. If not, nail him to a tree, and burn him! ...just kidding. No need to burn, ha may change his mind later. Nailing is enough.
  18. Leogun_91 said: macd21 said: Halflings are an interesting and important race option for WFRP. They are not, however, a popular option. High Elves and Wood Elves are simply far, far more popular. Taking up space in the core with a race that only a tiny minority of players will ever use is a waste of space and money. If one of your players wants to play a halfing they can buy the expansion that they'll be described in. That might be true but I know only one player who plays elfs while halflings can be considered by several players......and if the halflings would be given the same attention in the core book as they are now (maybe skipping the fieldwarden when you are so limited on careers) they would hardly take any place in the book anyways......you could even just skip half a page of the intro story to get the in. Interestingly, I never met anyone, who played a halfling. Somehow everyone I met seems to hate those dirty little scumbags. Still, I have far more dwarf and human players, than elves.
  19. Troll slayers are cool. Bright wizards are cool. Sigmarite warrior priests are cool. Warhammer is a cool game. Of course they'll put the cool faces on the cover. Try to sell a game, with a dirty rat catcher, a drunken peasent, and a camp follwer wench on cover to others, than the fanatic Warhammer players. Besides, these "covergirls of Warhammer" are also icon members of the setting, but they are on a higher level than most will meet during the game. It's hard to create an ideal Warhammer cover, which everyone likes, because the Warhammer setting has way too many faces. Ratcatchers and dirty sewers, band of outlaws in dark forests, intriguing nobles in a flashy palace, battling beasts in lost ruins, seeking heretics in the heart of a city, colorful knights battling the armies of Chaos, et cetera... These are all different faces of the Warhammer setting. You can't put all of these on a single cover, but you can play any of them.
  20. Knight Panther said: ARGGLLL!! THAT'S HERESY!!!!!!!!!!! But seriously: The many details of the setting are my reasons for loving WFRP. I love to read about the Empire or Kislev - be it sourcebooks or novels! THEY CAN'T TAKE THAT FROM ME!!!!!!!!!! They won't. The background material will make the Warhammer world "warhammerish", more than the game system. But I see more possibility of an elven sourcebook, than a tilean, or kislevite. Still, if it's true, that we have four 96-128 pages long books in the set, and most of the rules on cards, than what is inside the books? I suppose background information. By the way, 4e's "Points of Light" concept is quite misunderstood. It doesn't says anywhere, that there is only a valley to play low levels. Just look at Eberron or Forgotten Realms. It only says, that civilized towns are rare, and there's a huge, dangerous wilderness between them. It's exactly the same in the Empire: only few towns, scattered villages, and huge, dark forests. So nothing new, that "Points of Light" is just a good slogan... Heck, people were playing D&D like that since the beginning (Blackmoor, Greyhawk, Wilderlands of High Fantasy anyone?).
  21. Foolishboy said: >Upset that FFG would not tell the fans that WFRPv3 was in the mix, even after some very strong rumors. It's okay, that there is a period of secrecy around the development of a new game, but telling us, that it's done and coming soon, a quarter year before it's release is just wrong. Especially, with that "Rat Catcher's Tale" campaign, which surely caused confusion and sleepless nights among fans - even more, than the dice pools and quick-reference cards...
  22. First I was shocked, than became corious, and now I'm excited and hopeful. I think of it not as WFRP3, but as "the other Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay" - it is both "Warhammer Fantasy" and a "Roleplaying game", but different from what I've known as WFRP. I'm already used to it, that many times a new edition of an RPG is a different product, not an improved reprint of the previous one. I have my WFRP2 books, and a little ongoing campaign, and I'm happy with it. I'll also have my WFRP3 box(es), and so far, I like the stuff, and my players are also excited. Can't wait to put my hands on the stuff. My only problem is, that the box seems to be a bit huge at first glance, but I'll surely find a way, to transport it easily to the other half of the city.
  23. Poe said: It doesn't feel like it though. The only rule we have is no drinks on the same table as the board. With my first party, we only hava a small table, no place for drinks, so we don't need a rule like that, everyone keeps drinks on the floor. With my other party, we play in a pub, so we can't make a rule like that. The only "drinking issues" we had was when I showed my new HackMaster rulebook to a friend in a pub, and he accidentally poured some beer on it. It wasn't serious, the paper drank it all off. I'm eager to test, how it reacts to my player's blood...
