  1. So far I have mixed feelings about the game - my mood is like a cosinus curve about the new WFRP. The system itself is brilliant and innovative, and this is one of those few dice pool systems, that I like for some reason (the other two are Earthdawn and Tunells & Trolls). The most disturbing elements of the new game for me are the tools. I really hope FFG will release a slim version of WFRP, with only the books and the cards, and will sell the tools seperate- I know they won't, but I still hope. Cards are OK and handy but I already hate those puzzle pieces, and the tokens. They are small, easy to loose, and easily scattered by a sneezing or couching player. Thank god there is already a great alternative tool used by roleplayers since the beginning: the dice. A few examples:

-Instead of bulding a line from puzzle pieces for your stance, take two d6-es of different colour (let's say green and red). One of them should be agressive, the other conservative. The number shown on the dice and it's colour will tell you your current stance. Even better: keep a number of your own stance dice before you, based on your current stance - of course, for this one you'll need to buy those dice.
-Recharge tokens? Put a dice on the card, and every time when you would remove a recharge token turn it to a lower number.

What about you? Will you use any tools instead of tokens, puzzle pieces, or anything? Share your ideas!

You know, one of the advantages D&D players have, they get their minis cheaper and already painted!

WH minis have far more better quality and pre-paint is sucks.

There are people, who don't have enough free time to paint minis. Also, many of us won't spend money on expensive GW miniatures, paintbrushes, paints and accessories, when he already spent a few hundred dollars on books. And there are a few, who aren't quite talented or dextrous - believe me, a pre-paint would still look better, than one mini painted by me.

  3.  This was posted today on the hungarian site, rpg.hu: a fan of Ian Watson's work bound his favourite WH40K novels in leather, and put some nice optical tuning on it: check this out!

Maybe the colour of the leather and some elements aren't the best at first glance, but still, an awesome work of a big fan. I know most of you won't understand a word from the article, but nevertheless, the pictures are nice. :)

  4. Limited edition boxed set with hardcover books, and including the Adventurer's Toolkit would be awesome. Especially if it's personalized, like Rogue Trader Collector's Edition, for example: a letter to a witch hunter, about burning you. :)

Oh, and of course it should have a sturdy metal box... ;)

By the way, do the races get any bonuses to characterestics?

The short answer, yes PC race does influence starting characteristics.

For a longer answer, you'll have to stay tuned to a future designer diary that shows exactly how players get to customise their characters during chargen by spending creation points. happy.gif

Sweet. Thanks for the quick reply, can't wait to see that preview.

Edit: The more I think about this, the more I think we're still going to need some form of distance measuring. Something will have to define the length of a 'range band'. For example, if the players are surrounded and the attackers are in different range bands, then there will have to be some sort of measurement to determine how close each is. It could be as simple as 'A range band is as long as this stick'... I'm not sure. I'll have to see it in action :(

That brings up other issues, like cover. If I have a fig behind a wall and I say a range band is 'as long as this stick', then does the target still get cover if the attacker is within the sticks lenth? Arg... This is giving me OCD. I can only hope there's a paragraph somewhere about minis.

Well, we have tokens which tell you how far away enemies or groups are from you. And cover was also mentioned: the elf was engaged with a tree, to grant him cover. So to hide behind something, you'll need to get engaged with it.

  7. We're talking about two different games. If you are already running a WFRP2 campaign, don't stop it with the appearance of the new edition. I will surely keep my WFRP2 campaign running. Meanwhile, I will start a new campaign in WFRP3, because so far I like that game too.

Of course, if you are low on free time, it's possible that you'll have to choose, but hey, I'm busy almost every day from 8AM to 8PM, and can still run two campaigns. How can you manage this? Don't sleep too much! :)

  8. Don't forget Rhya, though she's nowadays only mentioned with Taal.

Myrmidia both would and won't be surprising. There are the Knights of the Blazing sun, who are followers of Myrmidia, and also appeared in WAR. They would be perfect for a career in either the core books, or in a future supplement.

Manann is also possible, I never heard of anyone playing a priest of Manann.

Or Jay made an error, that's also possible.

  9. I like random character generation, with a some method to modify your stats a bit. The best example is HackMaster Basic: if you are hardcore (or threw lucky values), and leave your stats as they were, you get more Build Points (which could be used to increase them a bit), if you swap two stats, you gain half the amount (which is still quite reasonable), and if you're a whining *****, you can put your scores on your abilities as you wish, but don't expect any extra BPs for doing so. Plain and simple.

One question, though, I see you have included the copy of a spell in the article but have not commented anything about the card. The art, as usual in FFG games, is amazing, but I got a bit anxious with the words "Rank 1" and "3 Power". What do they mean? Please don't tell me the magic system is moving in the direction of D&D (meaning "spell levels" and artificial limitation of the number of spells you can do per day), as that would, in my opinion, be a step back in the design of magic systems when compared with the 2nd edition.

I think the spells you can cast will be limited by your wizard careers rank (just like in WFRP, or almost like by your magic atrribute in WFRP2), and recharging is also mentioned.

Oh, and Omen is a spell of the Celestial Order. I don't know who asked it, but here's the answer: there will be other orders, not just bright wizards. :)

I think if FFG actually changed the terminology for the stance meter, it would work better in a gamer's mind. RPG players are often literal when looking at definitions for mechanics.

Yes, and seeing an unusual or new word or element makes some of them think it has something to do with computer games, MMOs, boardgames and cardgames, and they begin to cry about the ruiniing of "their" game and death of rpgs... :)

Even D&D went with dungeon tiles and essentially turned the rpg into a f****** horrible miniatures boardgame and people still buy it..just for the name..plus it's a generic system I suppose.

Yeah, it's totally impossible, that someone likes it, isn't it?

By the way, they played using maps and miniatures long before D&D4e. Some even encouraged it, like WFRP1. If I had enough money, I'm sure I would buy a handful of GW minis for my WFRP2 campaign, and some Otherworld Miniatures for my HackMaster campaign.
