mtagge got a reaction from Smuggler in What is the point of this game being "unique"?
A GOO is a great old one (or something) it basically changes the rules (one might make certain monsters fly, one might change the endgame, one might change the terror rules, one might destroy locations on the board throughout the game, etc.) and are the big boss.
Honestly if you don't want to know what the characters do before you play the game, exercise some self control and don't look at them and pull one at random. Nothing says that you need to look at your game components ahead of time. You don't want to know all the events that can happen every turn, don't sit down and spend three hours memorizing the game before you play. In my case, my first game was like that because I was at a friends house playing with their copy. Then you won't "know who my survivor will be at my friends house until I sit down and play ther copy". Folks are really stretching to justify nonsense.

For your Diala example, why don't you just retcon the strain moves to before the rest? The app doesn't track strain anyway. I mean you are just playing to have fun not to be a jerk to yourself.
Honestly if I was playing as the Imperial player and one of my rebels did that I would just tell them to remove the 2 strain.

IM NOT TALKING ABOUT SWAPPING TEAM MEMBERS. I'M TALKING ABOUT THE COMMAND DECK I'VE BUILT FOR A TEAM THAT IS VERY VERY SIMILAR TO THE SPECTRE CELL. IT DOES NOT USE ANY TRAIT REQUIREMENTS. YOU CAN USE IT FOR THE SPECTRE CELL JUST AS WELL. DID YOU EVEN LOOK AT IT? WHAT'S SO HARD TO UNDERSTAND?!?
Eh, never mind - I'm going to talk to a wall now, that's a lot more productive.

choosing from twelve distinct and powerful heroes, split between four archetypes—healer, warrior, mage, and scout. These archetypes are further diversified into different classes that your heroes can pursue as your power grows.

Looks like they are taking the Descent character build model and using it with Warhammer Quest. I'll consider that a refinement. It already has more than WHQ out of the box. This is one of the things I like about Descent that I don't about Imperial Assault is the character builds being set in stone and allows for more variability.

I sincerely hate Fantasy Flight for the shroud of darkness over anything and everything upcoming. How hard is it to communicate with your customers? One email every month informing everyone about their current and future line of products. As in Hey Legends of the Alliance players! We are the works to distribute the next campaign in the app sometime in Q2 or whatever. Why does it have to be such a mystery? It's like the company motto must be "dont set any expectation whatsoever" Don't create any hype around our products because that would be downright silly. sarc. It took over a year and a half of no mention of the apps release after it was talked about in August of 2016 before springing up in Dec 2017. The fans shouldn't have to wonder for that long. Now this is 6 months since release nothing about future content or when it will release.
I know , I know first world problems but come on already.

Oooh, ooh, ooh! Just thought - there is something I would like to see, but that wouldn't need a new edition to do it; but it does fulfil the criteria in the original post about advancing the gameplay or adding a new system in some way.
Why on earth isn't there a set of "movie challenge" scenarios? Say... one player gets Obi-wan, Luke, Solo, Chewie, C-3PO and R2-D2. The other player gets Darth Vader and an infinite supply of Stormtroopers. The board is laid out like a part of the Death Star, and the Rebels must try to escape. Or... it's Luke, Leia, and Lando versus Jabba, a Rancor and various Scum, in Jabba's Palace. Or... well, you get the idea. Scenes from the movies for us to replay and see if we can do as well as the "historical" result. Some of this you could sort of fudge by picking appropriate Skirmish lists for each side, but I don't think that'd be very satisfactory. Specific scenarios really could be. This would make a fourth game mode (after Skirmish, Campaign, and the app), it'd probably be really good for introducing new players, and they could put up a new scenario PDF on the website every month. Might even encourage people to buy more models to be able to play through the latest scenario.

Oh and the other thing that should have never made it through the first pass is the bonus rewards for winning. While in theory it is neat in that it provides an incentive to push hard and win, if every mission is theoretically balanced (which should be the design goal) then extra XP for winning, bonus credits for opening crates, etc causes the Rebels become overpowered after two or three back to back wins. Extra influence/XP for Imperial wins does the same for the other side. The rewards for win/loss should be equivalent. If you are going to give one side a unique item or upgrade (hero specific side mission for example) the other side needs to be compensated with a fair-ish counter balance.

Side missions should also be one chance to accept, not a persistent choice, flush the choices every time with no repeats. If the cards come up for Diala's lightsaber, Mak's stealthsuit, or a 3 Influence mission the rebels must make a hard choice. As it stands they can soundly defeat the Imperial mission, then get Mak's suit, lastly get the saber. As it stands though 3 Influence imperial missions aren't worth the cost anyway as the villain is already "properly" costed.

I could do with the class system from Descent. For example if a character is a healer they can choose from Apothecary, Bard, Disciple, Prophet, Spiritspeaker, or Watchman. Basically their character sheet would be the same, but they would be able to swap up XP card or even multi-class (sort of).
Other than that I would also be happy with recosted cards and a full campaign book.
One thing I am not a huge fan of is the Agenda cards. Every agenda card that is a deplete (once per mission) is far and away much more powerful than all of the other types. Rather than the influence system I think the imperial side should have both a class deck and a "dirty tricks" deck full of one use sucker punches. The agenda decks don't do a good job providing flavor. For example I could do the military might class deck and a Weiss' pursuit trick deck. The Weiss' pursuit deck would allow me to bring more vehicles. Or I could bring a subversive tactics paired with an Agent Blaise deck that gives the Imperials a spy theme. Or mix them up. Problem is the blister pack approach doesn't really support this and leaves the villains really feeling shoehorned in or vital to the core campaign and other villains awkward (a la Dengar in return to Hoth).

First play it is really great. With small kids it's also alright. However for adults who are actually competing to win it doesn't hold up at all. Both sides have an optimal strategy (Imperials non-stop fleet attacks, Rebels Endor track, Skywalker/Vader duel is a waste of resources for both sides) and are hobbled if they try to do anything else. The game has three aspects, but you are better off ignoring two of them.

I think you are playing it wrong. Each turn you increase the threat by the mission threat level, you do not increase the mission threat level by 2 then increase threat. I suspect your imperial was spending two threat the first turn, four the second, six the third, eight the fourth, etc. This would have the imperials spending 30 threat by the sixth turn and is wrong.
Yes in that case the rebels would definitely lose. In reality they would spend a total of 10 additional threat by the sixth turn.
The other thing that sounds wrong is the "mass of troopers". You cannot have more units than on a deployment card. So if the imperial has one stormtrooper card they could have at most 3 troopers on the board.

Ever been in a leadership role before? Perhaps she didn't formulate the plan until after the mutiny.
She had to survive on a hostile planet and was a skilled stick fighter (as witnessed when defending BB-8) and mechanic. More than that we don't know. Just like we don't know Han Solo's "training".
He flirted with the Dark Side, as witnessed by the discussion about the dark part of the island that Rey visited. They literally discussed this at length.
I did, my kids did. Although I thought the Poe one went on one repetition too many. Finn was a little blunt, but then again he was in the TFA as well.
Dunno, haven't gotten to that point in the comics yet. However the Star Wars universe is huge and the outer rim is large. Remember Tattoine was run by a criminal syndicate separate from both the republic and empire for 6+ movies.
Luke didn't die, he did the exact same thing Qui-Gon, Obi Wan, Yoda, and Anakin did. Qui-Gon discovered the technique and came back as a ghost to teach OW and Yoda.

Again I will ask. Have you ever been in a real leadership role? Like ever? Then I will reiterate my point that perhaps she hadn't formulated the plan at that point. No military leader would ever say "I don't know what to do" in that situation. Besides this insubordination came from an officer who literally just ran an operation against orders and got demoted.
But whatever. If you'd already decided you hate the film, it's not like anything anyone is going to say is going to make a difference. And there is no problem with not liking the film, its just the reasons your mind created post hoc are complete nonsense. All nitpicks you have can be levied against virtually every movie and it seems your resolute defense about why the movie is the worst thing ever is a red herring for something else. No hard feelings though.

In the app, hidden is worthless, stun practically worthless (exception is E-web, Royal Guards, and IG-88).
Many of the problems I have with both Davith and Murne stem from the fact that their class cards are exhaust cards. If you just removed those restrictions they would bring Davith/Murne up to base game hero tiers. Imagine blindsiding two or three units. Using Force Illusion to hide the entire team (at the cost of a rest action). Falling Leaf+Shrouded would give you a tier III weapon at the cost of 5 XP. Murne healing all of an adjacent heroes strain (and remove the f'ing skill checks for her, they are just annoying).
I'd also change force speed to say whenever you use strain to move move up to two spaces. It would give you 4 spaces at the cost of two strain and bring it about up to par with someone like Fenn's 1XP ability.
