  1. Hi there - I own this but have yet to be able to play a game due to having no one to play against (my girlfriend is the only person I game with and she doesn't really care for the theme). I live in Leeds if either of you ever want to meet up for a game I'd more than happily do so. I'd love to actually get a game in for a start!

    AH Lite?

I'm actually hoping that there is a little of the LOTR LCG feel to the solo of this - specifically the strong enemy mechanic and the story driven elements. The one thing I've always missed with AH is a stronger narrative arc to it. I hope the adventure cards in ES provide some of this,
  3. Glad someone else wants them! I mean when you think about it they would be absolutely no use whatsoever, certainly within AH, can't speak for MoM yet. They would essentially have to sit at the edge of the table with a black cloth over them, then at the end of the game you pull the cloth off and tip over your investigators as they go mad. But it'd still look pretty. It depends on the rules obviously I can't help but feel MoM may be a very canny move by FFG to start trying to capture more of the CoC RPG crowd by doing something a little more along those lines - a tabletop CoC could be very popular. It's why I'm holding out hope this does really well and we may get to see expansions beyond a mansion and decent set of mythos figures could only help bolster that popularity among the large group of CoC players who don't play AH. Of course this is all complete and utter hypotheticals but hey-ho...
  4. In a moment of complete wishful thinking I'm really crossing my fingers that if the Ancient Ones have any major involvement in MoM besides being a looming presence some premium large scale figures of them will be available to purchase eventually, preferably with the option of having them unpainted. I'm not sure exactly how big these things would need to be but I love the idea. I realise there is probably zero chance of this happening but it would be fantastic.
  5. Was supposed to introduce my girlfriend to the wonderful world of Arkham Horror this week whilst we were on holiday however sadly ran out time. Fortunately this news has tempered my disappointment. The only way this news could be better (& to sound like a broken record here) is to include the Dunwich & Dark Pharaoh heralds! Please, please, please FFG!
  6. Cheers for all your answers, I completely missed that it the find gate spell was limited to the movement phase, it's the major problem I've find being a solo player - trying to keep track of everything that is going on is a massive headache. The one thing I keep forgetting when I'm trying to make decisions on 'clashing' information is always, always, always remember the phase order is gospel.
  7. Hi all - I've managed to get a few games under my belt since buying Arkham Horror last month and am really, really enjoying it, although probably has one of the steepest learning curves I've ever encountered in my life. However I have a few probably stupidly easy to answer questions mainly related to gates. 1. Are you delayed when a nightgaunt drags you through a gate? 2. Can you use a 'find gate' spell immediately when you go through a gate? i.e. in the case above the arkham encounter specified a monster appears, which was a nightgaunt , I lost the check, it dragged me through, can I then use the find gate spell still in the arkham encounter phase to get me back through? 3. If there is a monster on the gate when you come out do you have to evade it? I'm fairly certain I read the answer is no but it does not move and waits there until the next round when you have to evade it then, right? I have too many 'this is the rule unless xxxxx happens' running round my head! 4. Unrelated to gates question - I'm sure this will have been answered many times in the past - has/will FFG ever do a professional print run of the Dark Pharaoh & Dunwich Horror heralds? Thanks!
  8. I've only played a handful of games insofar, however so far I've enjoyed listening to a few of Angelo Badalamenti's soundtracks - specifically various pieces he's done for David Lynch's films (a mix of various songs from 'Twin Peaks', 'Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me' & 'Mulholland Drive'). David Lynch also recorded an album for 'INLAND EMPIRE' called 'Polish Night Music' with is fantastic for the game. Aside from that 'Endtroducing' by DJ Shadow was good. I'm thinking of getting the soundtrack from the H. P. Lovecraft Historical Society's 'Call of Cthulhu' film to try out.
  9. Hi - could you add me please to Leeds, Merry 'Ole England (the 'Merry 'Ole' is optional, especially if you've ever been here). Thanks!
  10. crimson said: 1. When a gate opens and a monster comes out does the monster proceed to move on that phase also? Yes. Make sure you do the different actions that happen in the mythos phase in the correct order: 1) Open gate at location shown (unless there is a gate or an elder sign there already) 2) Put a random monster at the location (or two if playing with more than four characters) 3) Move all monsters according to the symbols and colours shown 4) Do whatever the text tells you to do. If this spawns more monsters, they do NOT move this phase, as the movement has already occured. 2. If the monster does not move from the gate location (like yellow card monsters) and your character moves to that location does the gate takes precedence and suck you in before you can deal with the monster? No. Again, you need to keep to the correct order of doing things in the phases they occur. You have to fight/evade monsters either when you want to leave a location with monsters in it or you end your movement in a location with monsters. Getting drawn into the gate occurs in the Arkham Encounter Phase, instead of getting the normal encounter card there. 3. With air monsters with no characters in surrounding streets - if there is no character in the surrounding streets does it's trip into the sky then descent onto your character count as all one move in the mythos phase or does it move up into the sky as one move then the next mythos phase descend? The second interpretation is correct. Just like black bordered monsters, flyers can only move "one square" - they start in the street and move to the sky location. Their symbol needs to come up again for them to move down from the sky again (in one of the following rounds) 4. If there is a monster surge that takes you over the monster limit the remainders go into the outskirts - but if you have another surge that makes you reach the outskirts limit you put the monsters back in the monster cup & raise the terror level. However if you go 3 over the outskirts limit for instance would you put all the monsters back into the cup up to the limit then the remaining 3 monsters stay in the outskirts? The monsters go into the outskirts one at a time. As soon as you have exceeded the number allowed in it, remove all of them and raise the terror level. Then start again from scratch to add the rest, again, one at a time. If the outskirt limit is low enough, this can mean that the terror level rises multiple times from a single monster surge. Thanks so much for all those answers efidm, it's really appreciated - I just need to remember the phase orders are gospel. I'm having my tonsils out next week and have 2 weeks booked off work so I'm hoping I can get some serious time in on this after the first week of feeling sorry for myself.
  11. Hi all - A newbie here. I have just finished my first game of this & really enjoyed it. I was wondering if anyone could answer a couple of queries for me (I couldn't see the answers in the booklet, although I've ended up reading it so many times that words have lost all meaning). 1. When a gate opens and a monster comes out does the monster proceed to move on that phase also? 2. If the monster does not move from the gate location (like yellow card monsters) and your character moves to that location does the gate takes precedence and suck you in before you can deal with the monster? 3. With air monsters with no characters in surrounding streets - if there is no character in the surrounding streets does it's trip into the sky then descent onto your character count as all one move in the mythos phase or does it move up into the sky as one move then the next mythos phase descend? 4. Sorry these are basic questions but my head felt a bit like I'd gone ten rounds in the ring after playing it!
