I am talking about 4 player 50 card decks actually Behemond, Between the 12 special character abilities and the amount of resources (and cards) at their fingertips, even the 3rd scenario doesn't seem TOO difficult. I agree Troymk1. We had some dual-sphere decks built up to 50 and we didn't see the challenge we thought we would. The one thing that did catch us off was the 5 threat location a couple of times, but it largely mean 1-2 progression counters and not 4-5. Just further on the upping the cards thing, we had a game last night and it did make a difference. We turned over two Brown Lands that would have been split into two questing phases. That was interesting. We have seen an average in threat increase with 4 players of around 3-4 I'd say. Most extra threat we had was with that Brown Lands and we got 8 extra than the first 4 cards turned. haven't played 3-player enough yet to comment, but I cannot see it being too out of whack compared to 4 player
  2. Not really. We have Warhammer and AGOT and we specifically picked this up because it is competitive. I wouldn't worry too much though. All three games offer vastly different experiences and are unique in their own right. I wouldn't be surprised if they eventually play both.

Do that with one CS and 4 players? Even if 4 players buy 4 CS then they cannot make 4 single sphere decks. Unless they play nicely and swap heroes politely, 4 dual-sphere decks is hard to get working because people want the same hero. How about you think about what you are saying rather than coming in an spewing a throw-away line that adds nothing and doesn't contribute? We are experimenting to see what we can get out of the core set despite it saying 1-2 players to get people interested in the game. So all the responses of "Play 50 cards" are relatively irrelevant. Personally I have 3 CS myself and muck around with 50-card decks all the time, but turning up to a demo day in a store, stacking the deck with cards and then playing dual sphere is not really an option. When you have 10-12 people playing all the starters, that puts bullets in the dual sphere decks. All I have done is change up the starters so that people can see where the game will/could go, have a different experience and explore some of the other aspects of the game like resource management which is largely non-existent in starter games. So generally speaking, 50-cards isn't really a good option for a lot of people just starting out and seeing what the game is like
  4. Must have been not paying attention when I removed the rest of the post. Either way I have 3 core sets, am an addict with the best of you and possibly heading for a 4th set Hoping to run a Leadership/Lore or Leadership/Spirit in solo, a Tactics or Tactics/any dual sphere in multiplayer and then keep 4 starter decks for demoing in stores and at conventions

Playing two decks solo might be the way to go since two players appears to be the sweet spot for this game. Maybe this is something they have to address going forward. A lot of people have raised issues about it and FFG have said 50-threat will not alway be the "cap" for scenarios. For solo play they could introduce something like the following on each scenario: Escape from Dol Guldur solo play Threat Elimination: 3 heroes or less = 50 threat, 4 heroes = 60 threat, plus 10 threat per hero to a maximum of 6 heroes Deck Size: 3 heroes or less= 50 card minimum, 4 heroes = 60 card minimum plus 10 cards per hero to a maximum of 6 heroes Staging Draw: 3 heroes or less = 1 card, 4 heroes = 2 cards, 5 heroes = 2 cards, 6 heroes = 3 cards. Solo Scoring: As per standard scoring plus 15 per hero after the third hero. Threat increase: 3 heroes or less = 1 threat per turn, 4 heroes or more = 2 threat per turn Obviously it would need to be tested and this is something just off the top of my head without any testing, but it effectively scales you up to around 2 decks, without have to worry about screwing around with 2 different hands, resources, engagement zones, etc 6 heroes would be 80 cards, 80 threat elimination and +45 to your score. That seems feasible. With 6 heroes you are going to start at 50-60 base threat which seems in proportion to the 20-25 threat below the cap you start at now with 3 heroes. The deck size increasing means you get a slight advantage over 2 decks and could better manage the card pool better, but it is diluted a little more. The benefit of lowering the characers would be scoring, which fits with the whole "lower is better" thing. Everything there is also achievable with a single CS. It wouldn't be hard to implement and just makes it easier while increasing the score. The challenge would be to lower your deck. Players approach could then be to build a 6 Hero deck that can do all, maybe a 5 Hero that can do all scenarios, or maybe they want to create specialised decks of 3 Heroes for the given task. This could also be done retrospectively
  6. That was another reason we decided that dual spheres were a must for us Narsil. We "fixed" the heroes so that there is no clashes, still 30 card decks. We upped each deck to 2 x Gandalf though to offset the changes. Our "starting" decks now look something like: Gimli, Legolas, Theodred - 20 tactic, 10 leadership cards Eowyn, Dunhere, Thalin - 20 spirit, 10 tactic cards Glorfindel, Denethor, Eleanor - 20 lore, 10 spirit cards Aragorn, Gloin, Beravor - 20 leadership, 10 lore cards Theory behind the splits was for Tactics to get a bit of resource generation support from Theodred, Spirit to get an additional quest supporter and buff their damage potential in Thalin, Lore to get some more interaction in the main part of the game with Eleanor and events, then Leadership to get some card draw and Aragorn to have another Dunedain Ranger with him We have found it works pretty well at the moment and changes the game quite a lot for a few reasons. Resource management and uniques become a big part of it. Also the cards are thinned out slightly because 10 have gone walk about to another deck, so it probably plays closer to a 50-card deck. There are no 3x of any card in the respective decks. The unique part of it has really made things interesting though. One game we had the "tactics" deck put out Steward of Gondor first and then the "leadership" player was stuck with it. The other thing we found is that the table talk really changed. Playing straight colours and having all four represented means guaranteed no conflicts. All of a sudden the Leadership player wasn't quite so open as his plans for dealing with something may be thrown out by the Tactics player. Good fun!
  7. We have found 1 and 2 players isn't too bad, but beyond 2 it seems skewed in favour of the players. We decided on: 1 Player = 1 Card 2 Players = 2 Cards 3 Players = 4 Cards 4 Players = 6 Cards Works well so far
  8. We are trying a few differemt things to toughen it up a little: 1. At 3 players we dish out 4 cards on the quest, 4 players we dish out 6 cards. We found in a couple of games late that we would produce enough Willpower to knock out heaps of progress markers is we coordinated ourselves so that was the idea to take the edge off those big numbers 2. We all play Dual Sphere decks now. Still just with the starters at the moment but it means that resource management gets flagged earlier and is more limiting. For us, when more heroes get released, this is where it will be so we are doing it now. So far so good
  9. Well I have my playset in a folder, three of each card. Demo decks in coloured sleeves for demos, encounter in black and have left the 2nd and 3rd encounter sets at the store in case they are needed. Everything is protected, no chances You can get the sleeves on their own and put them in your own folder, or you can get folders with fixed sleeves in them. The Ultra Pro Pro-Binder with sleeves in there have 360 places for cards to go into, so should get the playset and the Mirwood stuff without a problem. Then it will get in 3 full campaign sets (18 releases) or 2 deluxe expansions and 2 campaigns for LOTR. You are looking at less than $20 for about 18 months worth or releases All my Game of Throne and Warhammer Invasion are in the same folders
  10. Yeah I went coloured sleeves for the starter decks originally (red, blue, green, purple), black for the encounter cards, clear for scenario cards. I have been using these for demoing in the store I go to. I started mixing the colours to make dual sphere decks, but kept the sleeves the colour of the primary sphere. With the "play deck" I will likely get some picture sleeves like the Ring sleeves coming.
