I'm a little puzzled in the way the rules are written, but from other posts, particularly on BGG, I understand that Battle Savvy is the way to play ALL games.  I just don't think all my troops should automatically be veterans.  I'm considering a house rule; That units that are victorious in a battle get Battle Savvy (or units that are led by heroes), but until then they fight as with Medieval Tactics.

    Nice house rule.

Just wondering, how you keep track which is veteran and which is not?
I personally wouldn't like any additional tokens placed to the board, there can be too many already =)

But I quess somekind of token to represent veteranity (or non-veteranity) is the only way to avoid arguments like "no, that one wasn't the veteran, you got it mixed up with that other one!".

  2. Hi.

About the "new" Goblin Slinger rules, that state:

"When standing still (no movement): Spiked Shot can be handled safely, which will increase the number of battle dice rolled by 1."

Does this +1 dice apply also to:

    a) Point Blank attack at your own turn (there is a enemy right at your face, and you have not moved).

    b) Battleback (enemy came to your face, and you have not moved).

    c) Battleback after retreat (enemy made you retreat, but you were unable to due to something being behind you, lost some troops, but now can battleback normally as per rules).

    Thanks.

  3. I confirm; to play the official advendures in the Epic booklet, 1 set is enough, but for the RA 4-player variant scenarios (last two) you would need (only) 1 more spider.

There are some other minor things missing, like card holders and warcouncil sheets, but they are easily replaced.

Having two sets has ofcourse its uses.

    Here yet another post about this matter;

  4. Hi,

I have noticed that "Green/Blue/Red Banners" -tactic card is quite weak in Epic variant. Considering that you can play only one tactic card, it usually gives you only 4-6 units to command. Expected ammount is usually lot higher (or if lower, then some other bonuses apply, like more movement or more battle dices).

Have any of you considered house ruling the  "Green/Blue/Red Banners" to be more powerful, removed them totally from the deck for Epic, or do you think that they're just fine?

I personally think they have their uses still in epic, true being that they are weak (even scout is better, as you can play other section card with it), but am not so keen on modifying those cards by creating a house rule (but my friends whom I play with keep on whining on this issue =)

Oh, we play mostly 4-player variant, so that actually increases the "weakness" of these cards, as naturally some of the units you might want to order with that are your ally's, and it costs 2 orders to command allied units...

  5. Hi all!

Bringing this old post back to life as it relates to some questions I hope to find answer to.

According to the Epic Expansion manual, you actually need another full Battlelore game to play RA variant. So you actually need the Epic Expansion just for the rules and for the two scenarios, and then also 2 full Battlelore games.

    Questions:

Are these the only reasons you need the second full Battlelore game:

    • usual trinkets: cardholders, Warcouncil sheets for 4 players (items that you can live without with minimal effort)
    • miniatures required for the scenarios (E.g. no two spiders in one full box, or not enough troops to show the strength of the unit)

The "you need two games" -wording made me doubt that if I got something wrong, E.g. if you are ment also to use two lore / command decks from two Battlelore games, or something else like that (unlikely, but I want to be sure, as I found the rules for the variant to be quite compact in the Epic expansion manual).
