RAPID FIRE Broken-ness Solution (once and for all)
Blackberry3 replied to Emirikol's topic in WFRP Rules Questions
Lautrer said: We don't use the Change Initiative rule as written in the rulebook. You only can change one increment up or down. Do you mean that you give each PC their own unique Initiative token? What do you find that adds to the game? Do you do that for each individual NPC/monster too? -
Help! Rule book has Awful Examples
Blackberry3 replied to GalaxyUC's topic in Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay
GalaxyUC said: Two, Fortune Points and the concept of Refresh is eluding me. Each character has a max fortune points of 3 beginning each session? Also, say I have a party of 3 players, so their Party Sheet also starts with 3 fortune points in a reserve? But, they can't take those fortune points out of the reserve? Yet, when I give fortune points out, they go right to the party sheet and they take and extras out? This concept is very confusing to me. Please help me understand in simpler terms or example? Each player starts each session with 3 Fortune Points. The party sheet normally starts empty (though you're free to put some there). Whenever you award a Fortune Point, you don't hand it to a player but put it on the party sheet. When the pool of Fortune Points on the party sheet equals the number of players, the Fortune Points distribute. Each player who has less than 3 Fortune Points takes one. Each player who has 3 Fortune Points but can spend the extra one immediately (such as on removing a refresh token) can take it and spend it. Then any that weren't taken go back to the party sheet pool. -
The house rules I use for careers: - you can remain in a career even after you've spent 10 advances in it. You might have spent 4 on a non-career advanced skill and 6 on a stat, for instance, and you want to get all the rest of the stuff. - you can "change" to the same career and start anew if (a) you complete the career and (b) you spend 4 (3 for Reiklander) advances to give yourself a new direction in the same old job.

Buying Dice set not worthwhile?
Blackberry3 replied to Silverwave's topic in Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay
I got two core sets for $60 each and one pack of dice. That seems like just enough for five players plus GM. Even so, we sometimes don't have enough of one kind of die (Challenge dice usually) for everyone to roll some. -

PanzerKraken said: Also according to the rules, you only build up misfortune dice on checks made with the stat that is fatigued, not on all physical stats. Troll slayer has str/toughness of 4, then he needs 5 fatigue before it starts affecting him, which is a minor penalty and it takes quite a while to build up that much fatigue. And with use of talents and such, one can easily keep his fatigue/stress in check. Thanks for the clarification! -

PanzerKraken said: The cards should have a recharge rate on them. Besides being probably the best melee and ranged attack cards, why the heck did they not get at least a recharge penalty? Even cards that aren't as good got recharge rates on them! Right now my players are kinda upset at some of the games balance issues and our troll slayer has no action cards he wishes to buy because the dual strike is the only card he needs and has run out of any action options to buy.. Once he's fatigued from being so reckless all the time, and starts earning misfortune dice to his physical actions, those reckless dice should start to be a real liability. He'll have to do something else. Remember that fatigue isn't compared to your highest physical stat but your lowest. -
alakazam said: Long-term consequences - seeing your character slowly become corrupt/drift into madness/get diseases etc... Everything in v3 is 'immediate'. The mechanics support a much 'cleaner' Warhammer World - and that makes me a sad bunny What about critical hits that take a long time to heal, and indefinite-length insanities from being strained? My group picked up one or two of each in the introductory session.

Spellcasting – Visibility / Audibility
Blackberry3 replied to Fresnel2's topic in WFRP Rules Questions
My house rule is that spellcasting requires verbal commands to focus your mind and hand gestures to focus your energy and target. You can cast without either one of those for 1 additional challenge die, or without both for 2 additional challenge dice. -
How to do damage as a Bright Wizard?
Blackberry3 replied to Magnus the Red's topic in Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay
People are absolutely convinced that there is no possible chance for FFG to ever release any additional Rank 2 spells, or any Rank 3+ spells? Or convinced that there is no way they will be any better than the Rank 1 spells? As for risk, spell failure cards abound. And don't forget that rolling ANY chaos star on a spellcasting check means drawing one. -
arapinha said: Hello everybody! Just a small and quick question: a lot of actions are resolved as an opposed check versus target defense. That's only the armor defense stat? Or the small number between brackets on the bad guys lists? There's no other sum here? Sounds a little too easy to strike... (got two PCs dead after just two sessions. And they simply destroyed the Eldritch Order in Eye for an eye. No chance for them to complete the ritual) Thanks in advance You add the target defence (armor defence or number in parentheses) as that number of misfortune dice, plus the normal 1 challenge die difficulty (or more), plus the difficulty of the action. Everyone had quite a bit of trouble hitting in my session.

Spears actually are good weapons. That's why they are so popular in our world. There's no need to nerf them to "balance" them against other weapons.

lordsneek said: I know that a few people on this forum don't think WFRP 3rd edition has enough careers. I just thought of an easy solution that FFG can do easily and that fans of the game will love. Why not make and sell small sets of careers. Smaller and cheaper then even the Adventurer's Toolkit. This will be cheaper to manufacture and it will be cheap for gamers.Think of it like the career compendium from 2nd edition except broken into smaller cheaper parts. For example some people might want wilderness based careers then FFG would come out with a small box set of wilderness careers. There would be different boxes for different types of careers so players would buy the ones that they want for their game. Awesome idea, and undoubtedly in the works, but it can't be developed and playtested overnight. They need to make sure that the careers they introduce won't break or supplant anything that exists in the game now nor anything planned for the future.

You can't force them to play anything. You can either make a case that WFRP is better, or that your campaign idea will be more fun, or you can wait until they want to play something else and you're all ready with WFRP, or you can find another group of players and play WFRP with them.

Firstly, the "board game feeling" is a complete illusion. The game uses tokens to track various things it's EXACTLY the same as if you wrote those numbers down on a piece of paper, as you do for other RPGs. There is zero mechanical difference. In fact, due to the abstract nature of conflict scenes, it's much less like a boardgame than, say, D&D 4E is. FFG have not published guidelines for creating your own monsters yet: it's likely that will be in the GM's Toolkit. For now, it's certainly easy enough to take an existing monster and modify it for your new creation. Give it a few different action cards to mix it up. On the Empire, the WFRP 2E book Sigmar's Heirs is a great resource for information, if you can find it at your local used bookstore or online.

RAPID FIRE Broken-ness Solution (once and for all)

Of course the archer should win. In hunter vs. deer, the hunter usually wins, especially if the hunter is an Olympic god. True, but that doesn't mean the card isn't overpowered. To determine whether it is broken you need to compare it to other archery actions. If Rapid Shot is pretty much always the best option, then it is overpowered. I run my first session today, so we'll see how it goes! One thing no one has mentioned yet is that doing Rapid Shot four times in a row, where you hit with five arrows each time, means you just burned a whole quiver of arrows. Now what? Rapid Shot with thrown daggers? -
There are so few skill points in this system that it doesn't make sense to require PCs to spend points on languages. Most of the time, it's GM fiat anyway if the GM wants the players to understand something, he will make sure it's in a language the PCs understand. If the GM wants the players to not understand something, he will make sure it's in a language the PCs don't understand. Which languages they have written on their character sheets doesn't matter it will be one that they don't know. In another thread, someone came up with the idea that additional fluency in languages you would not necessarily know at all could be specializations of the Education skill, and I'm using that idea in my game.

The archer has Rapid Fire recharging, and the other Gor charges the entire distance and whaps him upside the head? -
FFG products not available any longer on Amazon
Blackberry3 replied to Carahue's topic in Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay
The rumor was that Diamond's products had suffered some kind of database glitch causing them to put a 95% or more discount on their retail prices. People were actually purchasing the products at those prices, namely comics for like a dime each. Amazon had to inform all those buyers that they weren't getting their products and they pulled all Diamond products until it could be sorted out. -

Long term play for this edition...
Blackberry3 replied to Magnus the Pious's topic in Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay
I don't think they "deliberately" left out a set of advanced careers. They wanted to release the basic set and provide the advanced careers soon after. Once again, would you rather that they not release the basic set for another year, include all these components you want, and charge $180 for the basic set? -

Silverwave said: Yeah, but I meant like 1 success = 1 wounds, 2 successes = 2 wounds, etc. You could add this to any attack: [2 Boons]: +1 damage But then what would you add to social actions to compensate? -
I think I'll just give fast creatures a Talent: Fast: the first two maneuvers can be performed without costing fatigue, instead of merely the first maneuver.

Any 2nd edition books that would contribute to 3rd edition?
Blackberry3 replied to stanmons's topic in WFRP Gamemasters
Sigmar's Heirs is a good overall guide to the Empire and its political and social divisions.
