Salt wife is not ironborn. But yes, characters can save themselves, e.g. Maester Aemon.

i daresay, it would also reduce the number of players, that don tlike Melee, but need to play this tourney in order to have a chance to win the most important title. one may argue, that such a player should be content with the win of the joust title, being his personal most important title. however, nobody can deny that "Overall Champion" sounds way better then "just" melee or joust champion.
also: each of them, melee and joust, should be able to stand on its own feet. no need to drag in players from each other, just to increase the field of participants.
if you want to have variety for the overall champ, why not add the Drunk Draft? you have to prove a lot of skill in that one, i am sure ...

FFG did screwing in the past (forcing you to buy resin Kraken), but this is different. Constant mistakes by FFG (not lying) might be disappointing or even irritating, but enraging? Come on. Deck from Lords of Winter has Power of Blood x2 (so second core set is needed too). And Queen of Dragons decks are not even legal (54, 56 cards). But that does not mean that you can't expand/change them. These decks, as far as I know, were build by players, not by FFG, and they are supposed to be proposition for beginners, not some salvation for balance.

It depends. With The Siege of Winterfell interesting plot with 0 claim value might be too good.
