what's not to like? It has great art, provides neutral cancel and makes players focus more on the favour.
why would crane want to run 9 event interrupts? Are you trying to make them easier to beat?

It's not like they designed the card two days ago. I don't know how a tournament that was held only a couple of days ago could influence a cardpool designed several weeks/months before said tournament.

meh, I have no problem with either. Pack those two and that's less conflict tech to stop me.
what I particularly like about this game is that currently you can only really lose to dishonor if you chose. You go and bid 5 then use an assasinate and you have made a choice to risk dishonor loss.

You crack me up. Seriously. You are ranting about a game in which you haven't looked at the core sets cards yet. You are seriously the most hilarious complainer I have seen yet. And I read the duelling thread. All of it.

this brings back memories though of old ccg story fans ******* because the competitive players got to make all the storyline decisions
I am happy for those who wish feverently for a different choice to take their own deck to worlds next year and win out. Otherwise suck it up...

Ignore Matrim, he is a jester of sorts

I really disagree with the MTG clone statement. It is as far as you can go from MTG, only lacking the a-symmetry of Netrunner.
While I'm coming from Netrunner background (which I loved when I played), moving to Thrones for sure made my transition into L5R easier. Currently I'm trying to drag in 1-2 ex Netrunner buddies and they have a hard time making the entry. Some of the dislikes they have are:
Not as elegant/clean as Netrunner ( specifically prompting, confirming and returning to Action Windows in each phase) Big entry cost with new Release format  Game is slower  Can't make a legal standard deck with 1 core set
The answers I came up with for them, might be able to give you another perspective on the game:

Netrunner -  while it had unmatched elegance in the a-symmetrical design and some other aspects, Action Windows, or Paid Ability Windows were definitely not absent. They just had few cards that interacted with them in complicated manners. In fact, 2 years down the line, they had to update the online FAQ for Stages/Process of a Run, because the one in the Playbook didn't display correctly all of the Paid Ability Windows. The fact that L5R has them stated with big Capital Letters up front allows for more card interactions with them starting with the Core Set provides more rich gameplay and allows for more Design Space .... rather than what A:NR did to sort of ignore them at the start and then come back to emphasize on how important they are, when people started scratching their heads when certain cards can be used.  That is in fact very true. However, no other LCG has been better suited for Sharing than L5R. The Clan loyalty element makes it great for collecting with your best buddy.  Yes that's also  a fact. Still it is a different experience than the fast paced hacking of A:NR as well, depicting a different scenario in a different world.  Nothing to add here ... this is all on FFG :\

Magic-clone: You mean like you bow your provinces to generate a mana-like substance called fate to play samurais, instant-events and enchantments/attachements on the table so that you can attack your opponent directly to make him lose his life/honor? Yes, I can see how that is exactly the same thing. FAQs: Well, that's just the nature of card games like this which you should know if you'd really love ANR as much as you say you do. This is not just a simple board game with a couple of components. We have literally hundreds of cards interacting with each other. The only way to minimize the FAQ and ruling explanations would have been to delay the release for two more years of playtesting. World Champ events: Lots of info/data came directly from FFG. Not from a website per se but from their Twitter account. The community simply took that stuff and spread it through other social media channels. Seriously? They do that maybe twice a year (World Championship and GenCon). They're not professional commentators! If this really bothers you, I suggest you stop watching. Or maybe try to convince FFG to hire ESPN personal for 2018. Kickstarter campaign? If these are the reasons you don't like this game, then I really don't know what else to say. I can't really give you other perspectives. To me it doesn't look like you really want to like this game. It looks like you're trying to find reasons to not like this game and that you're grasping at straws to have at least some arguments. What about the game itself? I even can't tell you that L5R might not be the right game for you since you never gave me any reason as to what you don't like with the game itself? Are there any gameplay mechanisms you hate? Is something missing that you believe the game desperatively needs?

It looks like Stores will get a chance to run an official event during the Kotei season, one which will give players a chance to vote on the second Role for their Clan. It's mentioned in the explanation of the Elemental Points system, but no further details yet.

You can complain all you like. So it's pretty much accept it, or don't are the choices. Many reasons have been given, so why repeat them when it's obvious your mind is set and reasoning with you about it is a waste of time?

I'm still utterly confused how these role decisions impact someone who has no intention of playing in the competitive scene anyways.

Not gonna lie, I'm enjoying all these people who have started playing a game that was very clearly going to follow the 20 year history of its own previous edition in allowing the best players to make world-shattering decisions, and are now surprised.
Spoiler alert for the new kids: If you think the winners making the decisions pisses you off, just wait until someone like me purchases their choice from them without ever leaving home.

I hate to tell you, but no one reads literally. human beings do not just compute language in a literal sense, we read into things, see hidden meanings and interpret words by the way they are said, just as much as what they are said.
But onto that, since you've decided anyone who is defending this decision believes that no one is walking way, perhaps you should take the step back now, calm down, and re-read what's being said, by yourself and others. You can say people are walking away, or dropping scorpion, or pissed off. NO ONE has said there aren't players who are doing any of these things. So either you're making a strawman against an argument that isn't going on, or you're trying to say it's worse than some people are saying, which none of us have any evidence for how bad it is.

[To be clear, this was before the two posts above appeared :P]

That I'm aware of why I made that decision? Are you implying that I'm not being honest about that? Or that Brad was lying to me when he explained his motivation?
Man, think what you like. I've been patient and polite with a whole lot of people who are largely either clueless, willfully ignorant, or just flat out dumb. Time to step away, I reckon.

That the person is telling you the justification of the choice, not second hand, but the actual player is telling you what happened. If you're going to decide it isn't the truth, then you're calling them a liar. And if you are, just come out and say it. stop dancing around it.
And if you aren't calling him a liar, then tell your players the truth, instead of letting a bad situation boil over.
