  1. You should have received Blue long sword rider banners.  I've never heard of Blue bow rider banners - Green yes for the ostrich riders but not Blue.

You'll want to contact Fantasy Flight Games customer service via email, they're very good and efficient about correcting these kinds of things.  Over the years I suppose I've had three or four problems with FFG stuff and they've corrected each problem quickly - no questions asked.

Good luck and enjoy the Goblins - they're a lot of fun to play...

  2. Where does it indicate in the rules that Longbows have a range of 5 as Interceptor states?  I've often thought Longbows should fire further than "common bows" but I've always understood the Longbow has a range of 4 like the common bow.  Have I missed something?

  3. Grubman,

Regarding the placement of the banners on the Dragons - I thought the exact same thing, why are they not in the back like the other creatures.  Plus I didn't like the way the Dragons faced off to the side, when their hex base was aligned with the board hexes.

My solution was to use a bench grinder to carefully grind (sand) off the hex points, converting the Dragon bases to more of an oval like that of the Rock/Earth Elemental.  Just be careful to watch your fingers when sanding down the points!  Next I took my cordless drill and carefully placed a new banner hole behind the Dragon (where it should have been) - just make sure you plan for where the banner will be positioned so that it won't interfere witth the wings.  Finally, when I painted the Dragons I just filled the original banner holes with paint.  The end results are very nice and worth the effort, if I do say so myself.

  4. Looking carefully there is a minor difference regarding the Special info at the bottom of the card.  The original Dwarven Crossbow card states "When used on the move, reduce the number of dice rolled by 1".  While the new Dwarven Arbalest card reads "Wnen used on the move, the number of dice rolled is 1" - Notice there is no meantion of Lore tokens on this card.  This differs from the Human Arbalest from Hundred Years War which reads "Cannot be fired on the move, even at Point Blank. Do not collect Lore tokens".

I wonder if FFG is updating the rules for the Arbalest such that it can move and fire, but only at 1 die.  This would seem to make sense because it has the same name and the illustration on the cards are identical.  Otherwise, FFG should have given the weapon a differnent name if it was intended to have different parameters (like they did for the bows: Common Bow, Long Bow, Reflex Bow).  It just doesn't make any sense to me that a Dwarf could move and fire an Albalest but a Human couldn't?  Maybe an Elf could move and fire a bow better than a Human, but in my mind, not a Dwarf - does that statement make me racist?

I'm also speculating that the Dwarven Arbalest is a blue banner unit just like the Human Arbalest.  If they are Green banner units, why not just call them Crossbows and use the same cards from the base game?

    Other thoughts from anyone?

Also, regarding Lore and missile weapons I understand that all Ranged attacks fail to collect Lore unless used in Melee (Point Blank).  So I'm puzzled as to why this "modern" (as apposed to original base game) summary card doesn't also state "Do not collect Lore tokens".  Are others playing that Missile Weapon Ranged attacks collect Lore tokens unless specifically prohibited on the weapon summary card?  I could have sworn I read that Lore is not collected by Missile Weapons Ranged attacks, but I have no idea where?

  5. Yes, I certainly agree, I was very pleasantly surprised to see this Dwarven expansion so soon, especially considering FFG is already rolling out Battles of Westeros expansions.  I will certainly buy this expansion - it sounds like a lot of fun, and if other diehard fans also purchase it, FFG would likely continue to produce expansions as long as it remains profitable.

I noticed the Dwarf shown on the cover of the Bearded Brave is rather interesting.  Keep in mind that the art work on the previous expansions is VERY representative of an important unit in the expansion - ie the Orge in Horric Horde, Hydra in Creatures, etc.  This little guy is peering through a telescope and pointing/directing someone or something, while wearing, is that a helmet???  He has no other visible weapons, so I'm speculating he's part of the Bolt Thrower crew.  I'm also guessing the bolt thower has a longer range than archers (hence the telescope) - I'm envisioning a wheeled ballista type piece - 2 figures per unit (like artillery in Memoir 44 or Battle Cry) with a range of at least 5 if not 6 hexes, rolling 3 to 4 dice and hitting on banner color and Yellow Sword and Shield.

There are certainly other possibilities:  maybe this fellow is a skilled observer and when he's imbedded (like a horn blower or goblin drummer can be) with a ranged unit the accuracy (read as attack dice rolled) is increased by 1 or more.   But why the helmet (I think that's a crude helmet with a netting about it or possibly plaid cloth?) when all other Dwaven units we've seen are in berets?  Maybe this fellow is part of a early gunpower unit - ie cannon?  The openning paragraph mentions the year 1420 and primative gunpower units were certainly becoming more common towards the end of the Hundred Year's War so it would fit the time line...

Can't wait until we learn more about the newer units in the upcoming weeks.

  6. I found the figures fit into their bases really well and needed little if any trimming before gluing them in.  I first tried a Testors Plastic Cement like you would use for hard plastic model cars, airplanes, etc.  I was skeptical that it would work, but I had it readily available so I thought I'd at least give it a try.  This proved unsuccesful however, I ended up removing the glue by scrapping it off after it had dried without sticking the softer plastic together.  Then I tried "Super Glue Fix All" which did in fact join the figues to their bases well.  This is what I would recommmend, probably just about any kind of "super glue" would be just fine.  Glue one figure and let it dry completely - make sure all is well, before continuing and gluing the rest of your units.

I also found I was able to cut off the right arm of the Orge (holding the club) at the shoulder and glue it back on with super glue, such that he's now holding the club up above his head rather than down at waist level.  I did this for a couple of the Orges to give a bit more variety to the pose when they're grouped together.

Hope this information is helpful to someone...

  7. Yes, awayputurwpn is correct.  My map only shows one Goblin archer on the English right flank (as seen from the English side).  The Goblin archer is located in the woods hex, to it's right are the 2 Lizard riders and to the acrher unit's left are two green Goblin sword units.

Hope this helps and have fun.  Battlelore is a fantastic game!

  8. In MHO Call to Arms can certainly wait.  Don't get me wrong, It's a great expansion in that it allows you to deploy customized troop mixes to the field of battle.  I certainly recommend purchasing it, and all the expansions for that matter.  But it's the basic game that you'll want to spend some quality time with and truly enjoy before you start adding supplements like Call to Arms.  In this way I think you're more likely to fully get your money's worth without feeling the need to rush through to the original 10 scenerios.

  9. My solution was a plexiglass sheet I purchased locally at Home Depot.  I bought a sheet just slightly larger than the board itself, 32"x20" by 1/8" thick - I think I paid about $15 or so.  Next I put some clear rubber feet at the corners and along the center of the plexiglass edge.  This raises the sheet just a few millimeters off the board and makes removing the sheet off the board (after a game) much easier without disturbing the tiles - minimizes any static electricity effects.  I'm very happy with this solution as it tends to protect the board and ensures the tiles remain in place without slowing down the set up.  I even purchased a a second sheet for use with epic battles.  Hope this helps - Brent.

  10. I'd suggest it's a flask of holy water, carefully supported by a kind of webbing.  You can see the bottle neck and cork approximately 1/2 way between his knee and arm pit.  The even smaller object to the right of the sword (as seen from behind) appears to be a small bag tied closed.  That's my best guess anyway.  Very nice figure, so I really don't think you can go wrong no matter how you paint it.  Please be sure and post some pictures after you've finished to help inspire the rest of us.  I'm still painting the main set, so it'll be a while before I tackle the Heroes - but you can bet I purchased Heroes as soon as they became available - I truly love this game...
