Expansion? Second Edition? Campaign Set? Card Sets? We all know there is no way they will abondon Descent as I am sure this is one of their highest grossing products from a sales perspective. Anyone have anything? There is a witch who lives down the street from me and I asked her if she could forcast what was in store for Descent. She gave an ominus prediction. She said a sixth player would soon be joining the battlefield. A malevolent force of destruction. A force so evil and so vile that the heroes and the Overlord will have to join forces in order to defeat him. Mwuu-ha-ha-ha-ha.

I managed to get to the dragons lair around turn 10 by lucking out in the catacombs and popping up three tiles away from it. I went down to get rid of the shade event card. Stayed three turns and got a total loot value of 2270 gp. Making my way back I went through the same three tiles I encountered from the catacombs. The last one was the spider web tile. Since Tatianna has a low strength I used the Rune of Luck to succeed on the first turn figuring I wouldn't need it and didn't want to waste time caught in the web. Next tile drawn was a trap tile. Drew swinging blade.......*died* Arrrgh!!!!! Second game I used the same Character and Rune. Second turn I drew the bottomless pit tile......*died* At least I got a determination token for failing

Since yellow and red are progressively harder they should offer more rewards. So I thought up the following: Green shield encounters give 2 XP and 100 coins for killing the leader. (as normal) Yellow shield encounters give 2 XP and 200 coins for killing the leader. Red shield encounters give 3 XP and 200 coins for killing the leader. Lieutenant encounters give 4 XP and 250 coins for killing the lieutenant.. (as normal) Also it makes little sense to roll random dice for each color encounter when looting. At copper level you could wind up getting 400 gold for a green while getting only 200 gold for a red depending on dice rolls. So instead replace the die results on the chart with the color shield of the encounter instead : Color Copper Silver Gold Green 50 coins 75 coins 100 coins Yellow 75 coins 100 coins 125 coins Red 100 coins 125 coins 150 coins I think this would give a little better incentive to do encounters. Any thoughts? It is a fallacy (typical of FFGs limited ability to analyse their own game) that green encounters are significantly harder than yellow or red ones. What matters most in an encounter is whether the monsters are upgraded. What matters second most is the location. Neither of these are related to colour. Typically the red or yellow encounters have lower tier monsters, but they generally have more of them and more ability to reinforce (which allows the Boss to stay at the back and send waves of forces forward - to a limit extent). You haven't explained why you want to incentivise encounters anyway? Their purpose is to be a nuisance to the heroes - sometimes a big nuiance, mostly a small nuisance. I never said the green encounters are harder, but generally easier. If you look at the encounters that have only 1 or 2 shields on it you see how different in power the creatures are. The green/yellow leaders are mostly kobolds, spiders, skeletons, etc. The red are mostly dragons, demons, giants, etc. That is a big power difference whether they are upgraded or not so the color does matter in how deadly the encounter is for the heroes.

I know what you mean. I have the same weapon and am playing Runemaster Thorn. WOO-HOO good times....for me Our Runemaster Thorn in SoB has both that weapon and the blast one, and just upgraded to 5 fatigue. He likes to declare an Advance, port to a good position, blast or breath, then spend 5 fatigue to port back out of harms way. *Really* painful on the island map. -shnar The player who is Runemaster Thorn is using him incorrectly. Thorn may only use his ability ONCE per turn. It says so right on his hero card. However having 5 fatigue is still good for him as it will allow him to do a battle action and still have 5 movement points to teleport.

  16. Koll's Mark states that: During your turn, you may sacrifice 2 wounds to make 1 additional Magic attack. You may do this up to 2 times per turn. Am I correct in assuming that you can use this to make an attack (or attacks) even if your hero does a run action for the turn?
  17. Your friend is wrong. When you declare a battle action you immediately recieve zero movement points. You cannot spend what you don't have. The only possible way to get movement points after declaring a battle action is by spending fatigue points (or through the use of certain other magic items like The Knight's Ring)
  18. I think his ability is interesting, but hardly broken. In a regular dungeon crawl game he will only be able to use it from 5 to 8 times depending on the dungeon. There are sixty skills in the game, and assuming 4 heroes are being used with 3 starting skills each, that leaves 48 skills to cycle through. Not very good odds of Lindel getting what he wants. For the campaign game he can use it alot more often, but it would take a tremendous amount of time for him to use it effectively. Assuming the other three heroes each have one ability from one of the the three decks and Lindel has another from the deck he wants to cycle trough, that would mean he has to enter 18 different dungeon areas just to cycle through that one ability deck. This means alot of traveling if using the blitz tactic. If he wants to cycle through all the ability decks he has to travel to at least 54 different dungeon areas assuming no other skills are bought, or fully complete all three levels of 18 dungeons. This does not seem very efficient given that any specific skill can be had just by traveling to a particular city and buying it. Lindel could get lucky with his ability, but more often he might not.
  19. One possible solution is to make a house rule that Lieutenants cannot retreat from an encounter when on a city space. Sort of takes into account the city defenses as well as the heroes preventing the monster from escaping. The only way for the lieutenant to leave is to kill all the heroes or if the heroes flee the encounter. I use this rule myself. It won't prevent the overlord from going after cities, but will make him think twice before commiting his lieutenants since they can't just run away and do it all over again.

Okay, in FAQ v2.2 in Action Cards: "Q: Can an action card be played between taking two hits to your fleet or ground forces? A: Yes." So, any number of hits can be taken, then play the an Action Card and take more? Yes. An AC can be played between any two hits in a given round of combat, regardless of how many hits have come/are coming. Esperologist said: The Yssaril Special Ability as follows: "You are never limited to a hand-size of Action Cards regardless of the game ruls and any active political cards." Does using the "Cultural Crises" Action Card force the Yssaril to obey the hand-size rules/political cards since they have lost the ability? Or do they still keep all their Action Cards because the "never limited" still applies, even when the ability is gone? A general board gaming rule of thumb is that specific rules trump general ones when they conflict. The Yssaril ability says that it overrides "game rules" (which I interpret to be the rulebook and any optional/house rules that players might use.) The Political Cards bit is (I think obviously) referring to any laws or vote effects that might limit hand size or force discards. The Yssaril are immune to those. As a one-shot Action Card, I'd say Cultural Crisis is more specific than the Yssaril racial ability and thus it wins, and the Yssaril must discard if applicable. According to the errata the Yssaril are NOT immune to being forced to discard. They are only immune to effects that would limit their hand size.
  21. I just wanted to point out that you cannot use the Diplomacy II strategy card to annex Mecatol Rex. It is in the Shattered Empires rule book.
  22. Interesting. The map layout is exactly like the one given in RuneBound: The Isle of Dread expansion. I guess this means we can maybe look forward to a desert themed Descent expansion as well.

But comparing the graphics and sculpts in TI3 to some of the newer games like StarCraft it starts to show its age a little. Not that I have the money for a newer version, but I wondered if anything was on the horizon, even if it was another expansion for TI3. I have to disagree. Unlike Starcraft TI3 really can't sustain big detailed sculptures on the board. I think the way the ships and such are made for TI3 are simple yet detailed just enough for the game.
  24. I couldn't believe my luck this weekend. I went to a local gaming store in my area just to window shop to see what came out for the month of August. As I was going down the center aisle I see a perfectly shrink wrapped copy of the Runebound Midnight expansion for $39. I snatched it up immediately. When I opened the box it was like it just came fresh from the factory with everything shrink wrapped and in perfect condition. Now if I can just find the desert expansion the same way

If you are interested let me know and we can try and get you in on some Descent. The beer, food and Skoal flows nicely when we play. I dont know what kind of drive you would be looking at though depending on where you live. Hi and thanks for the offer. However it would take me an hour and a half to travel there. That's a little far for me.
