  1. Now that is impressive!  I really like how that looks.

However (and no offense because that is a totally cool model) I think this shows why you would not want capital ships out of scale.  We clearly see X-wings and Y-wings zipping around a Neb-B in ESB.  With the half size Neb-B they just do not look right on the table.  If it was something else that we had not seen direct comparesons of, it might be better, but in this case it seems obvious to me.  I really hope that if FFG makes bigger ships that they keep them to scale.

Still, that does not take away from how awesome that Neb-B looks.

    Thanks,
    Duncan

  2.  BTW, I updated the spreadsheet with all the information I could find.

Looks like the A-wing picture was changed and corrected.  No Barrel Roll for A-wings.

Looking at the Falcon, I think the two lowest pilots are different YT-1300s.  A base model for the lowest skill and another smuggler for the next lowest skill.  I think that Neib and Chewie are gunners or co-pilots, but I did not see them on cards.

The Intercepter second highest rated pilot appears to start with a T, which to me makes him Turr.  3rd higest is something with the 181st I think.

Anyone figure anything else out, I will update the spreadsheet.

    Thanks,

    Duncan

  3.  Interesting.  Sounds like at the very least this will give you a chance to try the different manuvers and practice chasing ships.  That can be an important skill.

    Good work!

  4.  FFG has said that they consider the Falcon and Slave I medium ships.  Also for the airplane game they did produce Blimps at one time that were huge.  I could see FFG producing a special to scale Rebel Transport (the Gallofree medium) or maybe a Corvette just to use as an objective or something.  I doubt they would do many and it would probably be $50-$100 depending on size and detail.  But since such ships can't dog fight, they would have to be like the blimps in Wings of War.

I too would like a too scale fleet game.  That would be rocking.

    Thanks,

    Duncan

  5.  I  just updated my spreadsheet (see sig) with what I could make out from the previews.  I wish the Falcon and Slave I had been clearer, but there were clearly some cards reused from the base set, and at least 1 card from the A-wing that the Falcon also has.  If anyone figures anything else out, let me know and I will add it to the sheet.

    Thanks,

    Duncan

  6.  Hello,

Well there are a few issues to consider.

    1.  Terrian in the game can be moved onto, which represents the 3D nature of space.  So currently all the asteriods are flat to allow for manuvering through them (there are some collision rules, so you don't just fly through them.)  Adding any 3D terrain may prove difficult.

    2.  The scale of the game is 1:270.  To make a scale Alderaan Cruiser (i.e. Corellian Corvette) it would be like 25 inches long.  You would be better to focus on smaller custom ships at this point.  If you have something from the EU that you like (E-wing, TIE Defender, etc) that would be a better choice of something to make up.  Of course a generic transport is always good too.

Glad to see you on board.  Enjoy!

May the Force be with you,
    Duncan

  7.  Wow, those videos were really good.  They even used movie sound clips and everything.  I do think it would have been nice to use real pieces, but the CG was pretty impressive.  Excellent work FFG.

    Thanks,

    Duncan

  8.  I scoured the images at 200% to try and find interesting details.  Several upgrade cards are reused from previous sets (Cluster and concussion missiles at the least.)  I have begun updating my spreadsheet with most of the data.  I won't have it posted until later however.  I think I figured out most of the TIE and A-wing pilots, but only 2 of the Falcon (Han and Lando) and only Boba for Slave I.  It also appears that unlike the fighters, some of the stats and actions may actually change with the medium class ships.  I suspect that the lowest skill pilot for each will be generic.

I will try and strain my eyes more later and scrounge up more details.

    Thanks,

    Duncan

Mine is still pending…btw my order was on July 3rd. Probably shipping out in the order they received them?

Me too.  First order (the 2 starters) was 6/3 and the second order (expansions) was 7/24.  I hope they get them out early next week.

    Thanks,

    Duncan

  10.  From my reading of the rules, you move back along the template to the first open spot.  In this case, that spot is where he started.  So they X-wing would not move, get no action, and can not attack TIE #2 (who can not attack him either.)

    Thanks,

    Duncan

  11.  I think you are underestimating Marksmanship.  that is a pretty good EPT.  Squad Leader can be nice as can swarm tactics, but those tend to depend on the range of pilot skills more.  Still, I think marksmanship is probably the best right now.

    Thanks,

    Duncan

  12.  I am so wanting this game.  I was starting to re-read my Empire comics from Dark Horse and saw some X-wing vs TIE battles and longed for this game.  Good think I am not rereading Rogue Squadron books…

    ;)

    Thanks,

    Duncan

(I think FFG should send a free set of the starter to Mike Stackpole and Aaron Allston.)

  13.  I don't know of anyone else around Columbus and the FLGS is on the other side of town from me.  I plan to guilt at least one friend into playing, and maybe my 6 year old son.  I also have some guys at work I may be able to talk into some lunch time games.

Shoot me a message if you are around Columbus Ohio.

    Thanks,

    Duncan

  14.  Mmm, droid Tri-Fighter… mmm.

I am down with more ships.  I think both EU and Prequals are fair game.  I do think that Prequel ships should be a seperate game (with the same rules) so that tournaments can be X-Wing or Clone Wars, or mixed.  The idea of adding prequel ships is what makes me think that enforcing Imp vs Rebel at tournaments won't work.  I can see a day where there are Rebel, Republic, Old Republic, Empire, Seperatist, Sith Empire, Neutral, Vong (I kind of home not), and maybe other factions.

    Thanks,

    Duncan

  15.  Joanna had a Labor Day sale of 50% off felt.  My wife got me a 54" x 54" piece of black and some cloth markers/paints.  I figure I will line out a 3'x3' area for a base game, but have the larger piece of felt if I want more space.

    Thanks,

    Duncan

  16.  I think you will find that a lot of the naming came from WEG Star Wars RPG back in the day and also the Decipher CCG.  That was the first place I learned many of these guys names.  Several books have also been written about many of the side characters from the movies.  Almost everything is seen for at least a moment in the movies as well.

I totally second Wookiepedia as the ultimate reference.  Also note that Lucas does have a department for keeping things straight in the Star Wars universe.  They maintain a Holocron that the EU authors and other licensees are suppose to reference and make sure that Han Solo is not in two places at once.  That thing has got to be getting huge now.

    Thanks,
    Duncan
