If I take the plunge into Armada I think I will get one of everything to start.  X-Wing has shown me that some units get redone in future supplements (Imperial Aces, Rebel Aces, etc.)  So at least for now 1 of each.

I could totally see and Imperial pack with a repainted Neb-B and Imperial cards for it.  Lots of ships could have been used by both sides, even ISDs.

    Thanks,

    Duncan

Did that happen much in xwing? Ships that work for both sides?

Not so much for both side, but for the third "Scum" faction they added.  A lot of rebel ships are used by the Mercenary Faction.  Frankly there have been times in the EU where rebels few TIEs.  They pretty much flew anything they could get their hands on.  With the Empire, it had the war materials to be more picky about what they would fly.  Mercenaries also generally fly anything they can afford.

In X-Wing the following ships can be used by both Rebels and Merc:

    Z-95 headhunter

    Y-Wings

    HWK-290

Firespray-31 (Actually this one is Merc and Imperial.)

Several ships were repainted and offered in new products:

TIE Interceptors were in the Imperial Aces as well as thier own ship expansion

A-Wing and B-Wing were in the Rebel Aces with different paint

X-Wing was in the "Rebel Transport" Epic ship

TIE Advanced will be in the Imperial Raider pack

Z-95 and Y-Wings were repainted and in the Scum and Villainy expansion.

So not all ships get variants, but I figure it happens enough that I am not going to go out and buy 5 copies of everything right away.  :)

So far ships that should be usable by both sides:

Nebulon-B (built by the empire and stolen by the rebels.)

Corellian Corvette (used primarily by the Rebels, but could easily be used by the Empire.)

Star Destroyers were captured after Endor by the Rebels and used by the New Republic in the old EU

All other ships are much more faction specific so far.

    Thanks,

    Duncan

  3. I know that I for one am not thrilled about the sliding scale.  I would ideally love the ships to be absolute scale to each other rather than a sliding scale.  I could possibly make due with a "Class" based sliding scale.  (i.e. all ships of a certain length are to scale with each other, while the next size group are all to scale with each other but different from the first group.)  After FFG worked so hard to get good scale in X-wing, it is kind of a shame to see them throw it away in Armada.  I could live with small corvettes.

If I want out of scale ships, I still have my old Star Wars Starship Battles from WOTC.  (Bent pieces and all.)

Still I plan a demo at GenCon this week.

    Thanks,
    Duncan

  4. Just to weigh in on the discussion, I really wish they would keep the capital ships to scale with each other.  Even if they have to have "classes" that are different scales, at least try and be consisant.  That is one thing that killed the old WOTC Starship Battles game (aside from poor quality and simple rules) was that ships were totally inconsistant.  The Falcon was almost as large as a Neb-B.

I really wish FFG would use their attention to scale from X-Wing for the larger ships too.

(And I am very sad to see that the Medium Transport and CR90 were different scales in X-wing.  I thought they were to scale with each other at least...)

    Thanks,

    Duncan

  5. I will second the use of most the ships from the Future Armada series.  They have been making posters on Kickstarter and i have used those projects to get a bunch of the ships in PDF.  There are some cool looking ships, shuttles, and other useful stuff there.  Some of it is very inspired by other shows like this Firefly-ish ship.  There is also a Falcon-like ship and a Star Trek style saucer I know of.

    Thanks,

    Duncan

  6. NO problem and congratulations.  I was just throwing it out there in case anyone is interested.

I did Saga with an old friend who lived in Lebanon, OH.  He would drive in for the game most times.  (We also had a friend drive from Indianapolis, but again they were both old friends.)

Good luck with the group and the baby,
    Duncan

  7. Hey gang,

It has been awhile since I last checked in, but I finally got most of the data to update my X-wing Spreadsheet.  Thanks to all the people that posted card images and other data from the Kessel Runs.  That let me get this mostly finished.  Once I get access to my own sets, I will finalize everything and repost again.

Here is the link to Mediafire:

Let me know if that does not work.  I am planning to play in a delayed Kessel Run event this weekend so wish me luck!

    Thanks,

    Duncan

Another trick is using a 4 speed koiogran turn.  This will often get you a nice long range torp shot on a locked and focused tie as well.

Except that you would not be able to focus after the Koiogran turn.  It is a red manuver and would give you a stress token, preventing a focus action.  Of coure you could get a focus token other ways, like from Red leader.

    Thanks,

  9.  Dude!  I just totally noticed that the right most upper row upgrade card is Luke Skywalker.  This picture is Luke in the gun turret from ANH.

The next card appears to be Nieb Numb, the picture is him in a red suit, you can just see the edge of his face and the title looks like his name.

After that is Chewbacca.  The picture may be an arm, and the name appears to start CHE.  So I think that is where we will see the "co-pilots" and "gunners".

    Thanks,

    Duncan

  10.  Good call on the Homing Missile.  Both Slave I and the A-wing seem to have it.  That would match what we saw in Episode II from Slave I.

I also agree that looks like the wonderful seismic charge.  Based on that, I suspect that upgrade icon is for Mines.

Once I get enough stuff, I will post the spreadsheet again.  Hopefully next Friday we will get a proper preview with card images.

    Thanks,

    Duncan
