  1. Interesting game.  I am surprised the Vic tried the speed 0 thing.  I take it that you had nothing in range during that time?  Would have been great to concentrate fire on the Vic when it could not use the defense tokens.

Glad to see advanced projectors worked so well.  I have not heard of too many people that are super fond of them.

Corvettes just seem to have trouble damaging ships.  Not sure why this is, but it seems like a lot of CR90s can't gather enough fire power to cause serious damage.

    Thanks for the report!

    Duncan

  2. Just took a listen.  Nice job.  It was really interesting to hear a different opinion on Squadrons right now.  Seems like most of the IFF podcast guys are very negative on fighters but you guys were much more positive about their abilities and the threat the pose.

I was also surprised that you guys were talking about using both GSD types since post people use the GSD I pretty exclusively.  Again, good to hear alternative  opinions.

Please post again when you guys talk about the tournament results.  Good luck and may the Force be with you.

    Thanks,

    Duncan

  3. Sounds like a lot of products may have been pushed back by the "undisclosed" Force Awakens projects.  I full expect we will see an Ep. 7 X-wing expansion, maybe a new Core RPG book, possibly some LCG stuff too.  Outside possibilities would be some capital ships for Armada from Ep. 7 and real outside possibility of some Imperial Assault expansions.

There could also be some stand alone Ep 7 games to capitalize on the movie.  I think all that really put the production and distribution of current lines back some.

    Thanks,
    Duncan

  4. Hey gang,

Just wanted to say hi and that I just listened to IFF for the first time.  I spent the last 3 days at work catching up.  Good stuff on here.  I don't actually play Armada yet, but it is good to keep up on the latest data.  If only they would have announced wave 3 at GenCon so we could have some idea where the game is going.

    Keep up the good work.

    Thanks,
    Duncan

P.S.  If you want more songs, you need to look for a guy called Fulongamer.  He does tons of Star Wars parody songs.  They were all posted at the D20Radio forums at one time for the Order 66 RPG podcast.

  5. Ah, yes it does not work well at all with sleeved cards.  Plus once you have more character beyond the base set you out grow it.  I wish they could have been a bit better with the layout to leave space for expansion.  Oh well, at least I have some organization.

    Thanks,

    Duncan

  6. My co-worker just told me that his IA campaign has turned into a real Rebel dominated game.  They just did the 2nd to last mission in two turns with Garkhan killing Wiess on his second activation.  (No idea what mission FYI.)  Thier team has at least Garkhan and Fenn, not sure who else.

It really seems that the game is all over the place with some times rebels just dominating and sometimes the Empire.  I have to beleive that balancing a game with so many different missions and so many different combination of equipment, class cards, characters, and Imperial items is REALLY hard.  As long as it is mostly fun, it should be good.

    Thanks,
    Duncan

  7. I was extremely disappointed with it. Looks like the only way I'll be able to get a box tray to fit everything is to set aside some serious time (barely have the time to get my painting in) and get designing/building one for myself.

I am surprised by that.  Mine does fit everything, I just think it could have been done better.  Are you trying to fit in the wave 1 expansions too?  I will admit that the battlefoam only holds the core game with no real room for expansions.  Not sure what I will do when Twin Suns gets here.

    Thanks,

    Duncan

  8. Hey gang,

Just an update.  I got my Battlefoam organizer right before I left for GenCon and only last night got to load it up.  Not bad.  The minis mostly fit nicely, but only for the core set.  The E-Webs have a power cord that sticks out some and does not quite fit.  All the tiles and everything do fit pretty nicely in the lower section.  The areas for counters however are pretty generic and I may have to change how I do them.  Overall it is nice, but could have been better.  The lack of holding sleeved cards is not a problem for me, but I could see it being an issue for others.

Overall I give it a 6 of 10 so far.  The organization tray gets a 5 of 10 while the minis tray gets more of a 7.5 of 10.  If you are just playing campaigns (like me) it seems nice enough.  (Better than an empty box.)  If you are a serious skirmish player, I think getting the BFM or BFL trays for a PACK bag is a better idea,

    Thanks,
    Duncan

  9. I think this could be a cool idea, but as you elude to, the whole getting Blown Up could cause problems.  As X-Wing is a war game, it generally has a binary outcome.  I am not sure how you could balance it so that both the Imperial and the Rebel have a far shot.  I guess one thing you could do is let the players run the X-wings as a separate group working on intel they recover during IA missions.

Another (possibly unrelated idea) is to start the rebels off with Rookie Pilots on their X-wings.  The Empire player starts with Academy Pilots.  Then depending on how you perform, you can gain XP and level up to different squadrons.  Just an idea, not sure it fits in.  Maybe check the X-wing forum for more thoughts.

    Thanks,
    Duncan

  10. How they handle EP 7 might give us some insight into how they handle the Clone Wars.  I personally would love to have a CIS faction with thier very cool ships and fighters.  It would also be nice to have a GAR faction.  Maybe that is how they can do Ep 7... New Republic (if it exists) and New Order factions with their own ships.  I would love to see some cross faction cardboard (line Scum and Villany for X-wing) allowing Imperial Neb-Bs, New Order ISDs, etc.

    Thanks,
    Duncan

  11. So just back from GenCon.  I have some pics and will try and post later.  Overall the ISD is HUGE.  I am actually concerned with how exactly it will fit on the table.  I hope they give it a higher stem, because I could see it easily overlapping a lot of other ships.  That said, it is very pretty...

I am very disappointed about the lack of info on any sort of Wave III.  I tried to talk to some people about it and the most common result as wait for the Force Awakens.  Wait, what?  I want ships from the Rebellion era, not Force Awakens.  I am getting very fearful that Armada will suffer the WotC Starship battles One and Done.  Wave II may be the last wave of ships before Armada switches to Force Awakens ships.  That leaves the game missing a lot of stuff.

Even thought I finally got a demo of Armada in and it was a lot of fun, I think I am going to have to hold off on this game.  I am too burned from WotC SSB to invest my love in a game that fizzles again.  I want Dreadnoughts, Corellian Gunships, Carrack Light Cruisers, Star Gallons, etc not just new FA stuff.  Very sad.

Anyhow, I will try and post my pictures later.

    Thanks,
    Duncan

  12. So far I have ordered battle foam for my X-wing stuff and it should be here next week.  I will have a better feel after that.  I was not impressed by Battlefoam's armada offering, but will probably check them out at GenCon.

    Thanks,

    Duncan
