I'm against apps for board games mostly because of compatibility. In 20 years time I want to still be able to play my favorite games with my kids and grandkids. Will FFG promise to maintain their apps still in 20 years? Especially when the app becomes a mandatory component like Mansions of Madness, X-Wing 2nd edition or Xcom. Not to mention that living in Africa we do not have reliable electricity, so I also do not want to depend on something that needs to carry a charge while actively being used for 5+ hours.
I have a PC and when I want to play video games I will get a game that's considerably better designed than the Imperial Assault app. And I already have a struggle there with playing old favorites having to constantly find patches, emulators or virtual machines to run them.

The Imperial Assault Tools Suite is a collection of Windows apps, including:

    Imperial Assault Skirmish List Builder

    - Build your Skirmish lists from all the official Deployment and Command cards.
    - Intelligently filters out cards you can't take (such as Rebel cards in an Imperial list).
    - Export to images, PDF (various options), Word, or the Tabletop Admiral web app.
    - Lots of cool little features to help you build your lists; for example five-star ratings for Command cards.
    - And more!

    Imperial Assault Skirmish List Organizer

    - Keep track of all your skirmish lists; just tell it which folder to look in.
    - At-a-glance view of what each list contains.
    - Tag and filter lists.
    - Export multiple lists into the same PDF.
    - And more!

    Imperial Assault Card Editor

    - Make your own completely custom (deep breath) Deployment, Command, Skirmish, Hero, Agenda, Side Mission, Reward/Class, Equipment, Companion, or Condition cards!
    - Start from scratch or clone existing cards.
    - Insert special Imperial Assault symbols using <tags>.
    - Export cards as images. Print one or more cards at the right size.
    - And more!

    Imperial Assault Card Viewer

    - Not big, not clever: just lets you view entire sets of cards at once.

    ...and more to come!

The tools suite is under active (if irregular) development, and I plan to add even more useful stuff to it at some point (including a Mission Editor, Campaign Tracker and Dice/Stats App). Check back occasionally for new features!

P.S. No, the tools suite does not work on web, Linux, MacOS nor anything other than Windows. No, it never will. Sorry.

I don't. If I wanted to play a videogame, I'd play a videogame. I want to play a board game.
If the app is what does it for people, I certainly don't want to stop their fun, so carry on with the app as an option, sure; but me, I enjoy playing as the Imperial player, I enjoy playing board games, I enjoy playing with a group of five (which is the size of our group). An app-driven edition of IA would be worthless to me and us.

Just for fun, I've sculpted and painted both Yoda and Sy Snootles and also created a deployment card for each using @Bittermans neat tool. I wanted both to bring something new and unique to the table and fullfill more of a supporting role. Also, I deliberately made Yoda a non-combatant, because the humbled, wise Yoda from Empire Strikes Back and REBELS is the most interesting incarnation of that character in my opinion. Sy Snootles was deliberately designed to give her some back-stabbing utility.

I like physical things, thats why I play boardgames in the first place. Apps are ok in my book as long as they are not mandatory since they defeat the purpose in my case.

Bitterman got a reaction from Grruberr in The IACP can't truly balance Skirmish without swarms
Time as an argument against swarms isn't valid, or shouldn't be. FFG deliberately made sure that no figure costs less than 2 points, putting a hard limit of 20 figures on an army (and I've almost-never seen that many in practice), for a reason - albeit that, it's true, you still rarely or never saw swarms, but at least in principle that could have been fixed.
IACP unfortunately chose to arbitrarily mess with points costs in a way that nobody was asking for, which FFG had never set precedent for, and which broke this guideline (e.g. eSTs are 7 points, so rSTs would have to be less than 6 if the changes were followed to their logical conclusion; that's less than 2 points per figure). If rSTs were 4 points to match, you could easily get 25+ figures in an army. Time then becomes a much bigger problem. This is what happens when partial changes are made in isolation without holistically considering the consequences or following existing best practices; the response was to decide to just not change regular units, rather than confront that mistake. But, not only does this make/keep iconic hordes of Stormtroopers non-viable, but also means that cards like Assassinate (which are worthless against cheap and weak swarm figures) are deemed too powerful, necessitating further clunky changes, because cheap swarm figures are never seen, so the downsides/risks of taking Assassinate vanish. (Compare to Celebration for example - a good card, but might be useless if the opponent has no unique figures, so not an ever-present.) And on it goes - the decision (conscious or otherwise) to just not spend time thinking about swarms, caused knock-on effects elsewhere, so that time is spent on trying to "fix" Assassinate et al instead.
tl;dr: the thread title is correct, but only a special case of the more general issue.

Added the following (not really) recent skirmish maps:
    Devaron Garrison
    Imperial Tower
    Jabba's Palace
    Lothal Battlefront
    Lothal Spaceport
These can now be found in the line of sight app https://nick-hansen.github.io/ia-los/

I have found a bug with two of the maps - when an attacker fires from left to right through a vertical solid red line on Imperial Tower and Lothal Spaceport they are able to see one extra space through it. I'm aware of the issue and I'll work to fix it. Please let me know if you find any other issues

I have a reasonably well-painted Kayn Somos figure, and it's really a shame that I cannot use it as an open group (like with Terro), so I've come up with the attached custom deployment card

    Explanation
The elite unit mimics the Elite Stormtrooper's abilities damage and buffs, with some leader abilities: Gets the Leader trait (obviously, thus better used with an Inspiring Leadership deck) Slightly better health than an elite Stormie 5 deployment points because 6 would get me a whole regular Stormtrooper group Gets Sqaud training because of course Gets Squad command from Kayn instead of Last stand Gets my new little special action named Squad tactics, which moves or attacks with a teammate like an elite officer + interaction, but stuns it as well so executive order is still more powerful. ...and gets a free surge to be able to use these goodies, but with need of an attack which a white dice easily mitigates. 6 health because 5 health is an elite stormie for 3TP reinforcement cost, and 7 would be OP, because Kayn has only 12 for 10DP. Thoughts?

Thanks. The above is the most finished version I've done, yet - although I plan on revisiting it since I've started creating new elements which recreate the look of the Sith Temple and the battlegrounds surraounding it much more closely. As for the red floor with the white markings: I've test-printed the mapon neopren and all squares are clearly identifyable. I've not yet finalized missions, but I have a load of ideas. I'll very likely create more custom maps with unique environments in the future.

At the moment, I'm more into sculpting new figures. Ive finished sculpting and painting Sy Snootles:

It's a long way from "Imperial Assault is not done" (read "Imperial Assault is being reprinted") to new stuff being developed.
Imperial Assault being under the boardgame "division" is nothing new either, from the designer names we have seen in the boardgames and miniatures games that have come out recently.
    Still not holding my breath.

I've played Campaign almost exclusively.  While I've had some close moments that resulted in success sometimes and failure others, I've never felt an entire mission swung on a single dodge.  The dodge pip gets all the rage when it is just another mechanic baked into the design.  You can roll badly in any number of ways.  I really needed to kill an opponent once and I end up being short on accuracy by one stinking square and that turned the momentum against me.  It is only when the 'evil' dodge mechanic comes up that people are rushing to the forums to demand a nerf.  From my experience, it is mostly hated by the skirmish players, not so much by the campaign players, who probably benefit from it equally.  Ask yourself, how many times your hero rolled a dodge when a big attack is coming their way?

As purely a skirmish player, and decently competitive, I like the Whie Die as is. It's a calculated risk when attacking White die, that you might miss entirely. In listbuilding, you need to consider how to handle white die. Having more less powerful attacks (like Gamorreans - man they love hitting white die) or rerolls like Weequays help mitigate the effect of the dodge. And yeah, I've lost and won games on the white die - but that's part of the game. It allows you to make bold plays to recover a bad game, trusting in the dodge to carry you through. If your gameplan relies on the opponent never rolling a dodge on the white, then maybe it's time to reconsider the gameplan.

You could change the result to something like "remove the result of one attack die from the results". If the 'Dodge' is nerfed, though, I'd at the same time advocate for ditching the 'blank' result, because if the 'Dodge' annoys you, the 'blank' result should for the same reasons. Also, most figures with a white die should then be made a bit more tough, especially those with melee attacks.
Then again, the 'Dodge' has never been an issue with our group - it's most 'annoying' if someone has boosted his attack, but then again, you know that the result could come up. We've had more instances where figures with an auto-block, auto-evade and black defense suffer no damage from an attack than those with a white die - it's much more consistent.
I never understood the issues some have with the white die. It's never ruined a game for us.

The thing is, there is just SO much that could still be done.  And not just new figures either, (plenty of those and I'm sure we could all list which ones we want most).  Also a lot that could be done with:
    1. Game Mechanics?  Always thought some kind of vehicle or beast that small figures could "ride" would be cool tactically.
    2. Tile environments:  Lava?  Quicksand?  etc.
    3. Mixing of expansions...
    4. More app campaigns...
    5. Printing of new fixes for skirmish cards (hopefully using IACP fixes)
    6. etc.
But who knows, we'll probably just get some minor stuff...  I'm just happy there is something else coming...
