Thanks but I have no wish to deal with Bristol vanguard. The people who run the group there (not everyone that's associated, to be clear) are an insular elitist clique
-
I've been to Bristol, I know the game is popular there. While there are many nice people, the scene is dominated by others that, in my experience, are not.
-
As the title really. I haven't played in a while and would like to find players closer to home. Thanks
-
Right right I hear ya. Well like I said, if you ever want to try a game out, shoot me a message. Will do.
-
Thanks, it's a much fairer price than the £30 I was offered locally! (Good to see a friendly local community).
-
thanks for the offer I will think about it but I don't really have a very good webcam. decides I have sold everything but the core sets that I have which I'm still looking to get rid of so I don't know how that would work.
-
I appreciate the offer, but I don't know how that would work. And it's not really the same as 'proper' play. I'm burned out at this point. I feel the local community has treated me appallingly and it's coloured my perception. I spent 7 fruitless months trying to find players and in the end got shafted for it.
-
likewise. I'm done, unfortunately, I've sold my expansions but still have the core cards. No luck selling those. The local clique had treated me disgracefully, though I'm sure they'd say otherwise. Is dad when gaming ends up with peeler like this but I'm not prepared to deal with people like this. I'd sell what's left for £50 not including postage
-
This is so true. I had one guy offer me £40 for 3 core sets. YMMV but that's taking the p! And it's not like i've been spoilt for choice. I don't think Conquest has proved that popular on balance.
-
I think netrunner overshadows this game
-
the problem is the local community. They are a joke; a horrible little clique. one of them set up a fb group for this game locally. I joined as did 17 or so other people. None of them have ever made any effort to communicate. I was the only one who spoke about once a week looking to see if anyone wanted to play. In the end the moderator told me people had complained, privately, about my posting (which was not rude or anything like that, I might add). I was then removed from the group. Pathetic really. I don't understand people like that at all. Where I come from, if you have an issue with what someone has said or done you take it up with them, like an adult. Just to sit silently in fb in a group you've joined presumably because you're interested in the game makes no sense to me, but every attempt to muster any interest in actually playing was met with a stiffnecked attitude. I was told a couple of times that noone had demo'd the game. Yet there I am offering to play it! Not only this but I had actually shown the game to a couple of people in the shop (local venue) several times and have been more than happy to whenever people were around as I usually have cards with me when I pop in. Some people even seemed enthusiastic, but i heard nothing back. I showed one guy who was interested and went on to join that group and we agreed to meet up. I played the game with him and no sooner had we finished, after about 30 minutes, he said he had to leave immediately to catch atrain. I'd come all the way into town just for 30 mins? I had 4 decks with me so he could see the full breadth of the game. Was it something I said? Anyway that's my sad story. I guess you can't expect good players everywhere.
-
indeed, unfortunately no one else seems to think so.I'd rather be playing the game, but my local community, despite having a great central venue, is a joke. There are poodle that express interest, including seeing up a Facebook group, but they do nothing and never play. I've even shown the game toa few people who seemed really enthusiastic only to meet near from again.

How does it compare to DH1?

Shame FFG couldn't; that way we'd have more space in the book for stuff like antagonists or vehicles and even voidships. -

I played it with my group. All roleplayers, some more experienced than others, some played DH1E, some not. I explained the rules to them and there were exactly 0 problems with understanding the system. One of the ones who hadn't played DH before wanted to play a psyker and that too was no problem at all and he was fine with the system. We build our chars and played a short introductury adventure. Everything went fine, no problems with rules at all and everyone had a blast.Spending xp was also not a problem, because we had 2 books and there is a supplement online which gives you the table. From playtesting I can say that the system works fine as is. understanding the rules isn't the issue. I understand how aptitudes work, I just don't understand why such a convoluted system is necessary. -

The core mechanic is simple: it's a d100 roll. But the rules over complicate every task they set out to cover. Combat requires weapons track a lot of information, players have to be familiar with the rules for every action as well as how many they can do, when they can do them. Then you have to reference each individual trait for the various weapons and their quality. Not to mention each NPC has a ton of information depending on how powerful they are that the GM has to track. That's just combat. Is it necessary? Does it have to be this way? Never mind the wonky psychic rules and the horrible aptitude system: i dread having to explain that to players. Having to cross reference 2 from any of 9 different traits each time they want to spend xp including during character creation (thus making the task twice as long depending on how many players are rolling up characters simultaneously). This is the sort of thing that puts people off. Sure if you're a hardocre 40k fan you might give the system more of a free pass, but if you're new to this... -

Because the math doesn't always have to be good for a system to be fun. Fading Suns' system? I love it. Mathematically it's supposed to be terrible. But I love the system. It's simple, and does enough for me. The point is I could care less about the mathematical reasons. The same is true for a lot of people. Heck, my reasons for disliking something MIGHT at a fundamental level be because of the math, but that's not something I am consciously noticing. If the system is fun, it's fun, even if there's "Mathematical problems that make it objectively terrible!" (OMG! Gasp!) Not really sure I understand this. Presumably you'd prefer the mechanics to work - in any game. If you enjoy a game in spite of its rules that's entirely fine, but that doesn't alter the fact of the rules. For me, the game's rules are a pain. I can ignore them, but then why bother with the ruleboook in the first place? -
I'm in the UK and local interest is non existent. I've done all I can and have stopped buying packs. it breaks, my heart but iveplayed 3 times since release. Consequently I need to sell my collection to recoup what I can. My collection is on boardgamdegeek: http://boardgamegeek.com/geekmarket/product/728889 I hate to do this but I can't keep a bunch of cards I'm not going to use. Gutted really/I've been after a decent 40k game for years.

It is slightly better, but nowhere near good enough. The problem with complex rules is that there's more chance for bad design. -

Charge creation note includes the aptitude system which further complicates things add players now have to cross reference up to2 different aptitudes out of 9 every time the want to spend xp. Every single improvement or purchase had to be thusly considered. Hotter on earth is that not a massive headache - particularly for new players. If that is the best answer to a rigid class system then this game needs better devs. -

I wouldn't call it pointless, nor facts. If you can't come up with actual instances of the issues you're having then there is not much room for discussion, other than that you groundlessly hate 2e. I just have you an instance: the psyker rules being completable different and the powers not being the same. This means the player had to create a fundamentally different character for no good reason. -

I'm not having trouble in a mechanical sense, only in the fact that the new psyker ryules completely and pointlessly change the abilities of the psyker character. That and the fact the game's rules are rubbish. -

Only slightly better, but with - yet again -a complete lack of content (lack of vehicles and antagonists) and, unfortunately, a totally broken psychic system that, at best, is much worse than the original. It's still an utterly convoluted needlessly complex mess. If you want to focus your efforts on antagonists FFG don't include (who knows when or if they will) then you're out of luck. Ridiculous really. No doubt these things will be dripfed across a variety of shiny and expensive books which, as with 1e, will leave you with an enormous bloated collection of tomes that are completely impractical to use. I wish they'd come up with a better system altogether. This one is a mess. Rolling to determine if nyou get an extra fate point? What a joke. There is a difference between disliking/hating something personally and calling something outright broken. I see no evidence of the latter and overally I've only heard positive things about the psychic system. I like how you can dynamically determine the strength of your Psychic Powers, the different Focus Power tests (not just Willpower tests) and prerequisites for powers giving an actual reason to invest in characteristics other than Willpower. The worst criticism I've heard so far (and only on this forum) is that some people find the actual powers boring/lackluster and that's it. In terms of vehicles, I don't think the DH1 core rulebook had any vehicles? There are vehicle rules in case of DH2 and in case of Hive Desoleum they've added the most common ones for the setting so I think that's fine. If you want more, just suck them out of your thumb or use the content of a previous book or post on this board for input, whatever. Same for antagonists, they've added the ones that were relevant until new supplements come out. Having a lot of separate tomes/supplements is a general issue with these kind of games. You'll learn where is what over time and the PDF versions are nice to search for something quickly. Rolling doubles as the determining factor for side effects is a terrible idea. It means the psyker's skill has no bearing on whether he can control his power. If you think having lots of books is fine, then try carrying all the DE1 stuff around. -

DH is not and has never been an investigation game (like CoC, for example). If it was then it wuldn't have pages of critical hit charts and bloated stats for weapons necessitating unwarranted complxity (damage, damage type, penetration, special effects, rate of fire, type, etc - is all of that really necessary?) I had a look at Enemy Within yesterday and while it looks very nice, I just had to put it back on the shelf. The rules for this game are a complet edisaster for all but the most hardcore gamer/40k fan. I gave up trying to convert 1e characters over, I couldn't justify putting my players who aren't hardcore 40k'ers through such turmoil. It's not fair to expect the psyker player to put up with a substantially worse off character just because FFG cannot write rules properly. -

It also has to compete with other games for time (and space - it needs 3' by 6' to play!).
