Do they do same day shipping?

No word on reprints yet so I'll have to hunt around these shops. Not sure if I should wait though. Finding players is a nightmare.

Soooooooo..... How'd Dark Heresy Turn Out?
signoftheserpent replied to LegendofOld's topic in Dark Heresy General Discussion
I think the issue many ppl have with the system is that it doesn't support the 'jack of all trades' concept. And I'm prettybsure you can make a shooter/tank/psyker since you need just a few aptitudes: psyker, wp, offense, defense, bs and toughness. Now whether it really is a powerhouse it's debateable since psychic powers kinda suck in dh2. The aptitude system sounds like a good idea, but in practicse character creation is like a price comparison website and it also requires you work backwards in order to make optimum choices, which is stupid. This means players new to the system or unfamiliar with all the choices are penalised. That, imo, is utter fail. You can't beat prospective players over the head with rules if they aren't intuitive. -

The idea behind the psyker rules makes no sense. Your skill has no bearing on whether you produce side effects at all. It's down to rolling doubles. That's it. Pushing is utterly broken. -
What happened to 2nd edition?
signoftheserpent replied to TheFlatline's topic in Dark Heresy General Discussion
I got as far as the psychic rules in 2e and haven't finished reading. I tried converting 1e characters with 2 players I have and we didn't finish we ran out of time before we got to spending xp, which I'm glad about because the whole process of aptitudes and flipping through charts and pages - per player - to spend those points to build your character is ridiculous. To say nothing of the poor psyker player who will now have to come to terms with a dreadfully subpar psyker system and a choice of crappy powers none of which represent the stuff he used to have (none of which were particularly spectacular or over the top either). They charged £20 for people to buy into a playtest process and this is what they came up with? A rule system so convoluted it is barely any different from 1e and, again, leaves no room in the rulebook for important stuff (like more than a couple of crappy vehicles) including a decent bestiary/adversary section. I despair. The psyker rules are utter crap. There's no other words for it. What on earth possessed them to come up with something so fundamentally stupid? Why do i have to work with a character creation system so arcane that only the most die hard ffg fanboys and/or 40k players will perservere? YMMV but i have to believe this is all some terribl Chaos plot. None of this makes the slightest sense. No game needs 400 pages of rules. It just doesn't. -
Having a real problem trying to find players locally. Does anyone want to play weekends/saturdays, possibly the odd weekday as well? Evenings are not easy for me. Thanks.

Thanks. The new release sheets for next week come out tomorrow. Perhaps it might be best to see if the reprints are out then and buy it from the shop.

We have plenty of shops, we just don't have the stock at the moment. The print run ran out pretty quickly.

Thanks, but that doesn't sound terribly convincing. Do they ship same day? The website is still a little disorganised, but I've never had any serious issues with the service - if they've had what I wanted in stock and I ordered before their next day cut-off point, it has always arrived the following morning edit - I'm also going to my new LGS this evening ( I shall be reporting if they are "F" at a later date ) - I'll have a look if they have any in stock and drop you a PM with their contact details if they do. Their website is dire, no information at all. I think i'll give them a miss. Thanks anyway.

spirit games are out of stock, i've checked them already.

Currently out of stock big time, it seems. Don't know when they are back in stock, but does anyone know anywhere in the UK with mail order that has any in stock (at RRP, i'm not interested in auctions or inflated prices). Thanks.

Core Set Distribution
signoftheserpent replied to signoftheserpent's topic in Warhammer 40,000: Conquest
This does seem like a game where a full playset is very optimal Not every card you'll want 3x of, but some cards you are going to want to get almost immediately. Every faction has some really strong cards and even 2x isn't enough without search engines. That's how it seems to me. -
Unlike other ccg's during the deploy phase passing forfeits your ability to deploy later in the same phase, assuming the opponent doesn't pass also. There's no reason to do what other ccg's do of course, but there's a good reason for a mechanic like this because it adds an element of bluffing to the game. Here, if i pass - my opponent gets free reign. Having initiaitve in the deploy is not so good. Also, whats the point of having 7 planets in the game? Only the first 3 count for winning and only the first 3 will have their battle abilities trigger. The rest are only good for card draws and resources. There isn't much variety in those numbers across the planets (though it's good to gain extra resources/cards obviously!) so isn't that a waste having 7 cards during play? Their text will be meaningless.

no sign of a uk release as yet.

My new book has arrived and is a much better copy than the one I brought. Kudos to FFG for handling the situation.

Core Set Distribution
signoftheserpent replied to signoftheserpent's topic in Warhammer 40,000: Conquest
Well no; it depends on whether you have the money. At least Doomtown had a cleaner distribution across the board. Compelling eager players to buying more of the same product will, if nothing else, reduce the amount of product available to other potential players. Given that means the same amount of money is made, as the same numebr of sets are bought, surely it would be better to have more players rather than a few hoarding everything? -
Why would a psyker push?
signoftheserpent replied to Frosty71's topic in Dark Heresy Rules Questions
The psyker has to decide to push or not push. Then the nature of the psyker alters the effect of that decision. Then you have to look up the rules for the power in question. Then you have to calculate the Focus power difficulty number. And so forth. Before it was just roll d10 based on your Psy rating vs a difficulty based on the power. Much smoother. It's the problem with these rules all over: the idea is sound (pushing/not pushing seems conceptually sound), but the detail is far too convoluted. It's like the designers just over think every aspect of the rules. -
