Duplicate cards effecting the same action
ffgfan replied to commoner's topic in WFRP Rules Questions
Darrett said: I wouldn't allow double use of any card or talent. As for the player's actions, it's pretty ridiculous. I'd probably wouldn't invite him back. I agre. I have many cards twice becouse I have the core set and all G&V. But I'm not allowing my player to have twice the same talent or action card. -
Darrett said: Pretty bad choice in my opinion. In order to match the Core, you're spending $36+ on dice alone. The dice have always seemed ridiculously expensive to me. I hope they offer a full dice set at reduced cost eventually. I don't think so becouse it is a lot better for the firm if You spend more money on those.

Got my Hardcover Players Guide today..thoughts

Peacekeeper_b said: You know, FFGFAN, back in the 90s, TSR published spell cards for AD&D 2E and I remember some of our players who also played Magic the Card game started to use their magic stones (tokens or whatever) to keep track of how many rounds a spell was cast for and what not, while other players wrote the spell down on their character sheet, ticked off the rounds with a pencil (some used dice) and so forth. Its true that 3E here has been designed to use cards, fancy dice and tokens, but truly, its isnt any different then not using them. Its just a matter of book keeping. The truth is, with these new books, players and GMs can run this game just fine. Sure the book recommends looking at other sets for additional information, but its not like you cant use that part of the game without that additional set, you just get more info if you have it. Like it may say in one of my old DC Hereos RPG books to look at the Batman SOurcebook for more Bat-Theme gear, but it doesnt mean I cant use Batman in my games. And it is true some of the creatures, entriels and what not do not have the cards or other information that is available in other sets, but just because I dont have stats for a daemon doesnt mean I cant use the Creatures Vault as is, I just dont have all the info on the critter I would never use anyhow. Besides, with that list of errata forming in the other threads, plenty of things are missing that may be unintentional. All in all, I hand it to FFG for making a product that is essentially a non-product (slightly revised repring of previosu published material) and getting their 30 bucks out of it. I looked at the Players Guide and GMS Guide and found them to be very well organized with nice layout and art and the feel of a book in my hand, over a deck of cards, was really nice. If I was to ever run this game or get serious into it (instead of a game here and there with various groups I know back home) it would be with these books and no cards. But I am glad you like the cards and stuff FFGFan. Yes, I understand that. You know I'm a old RPG player. I started in 1995 and my first system was Warhammer 1st edition. back in the day we only used paper and pencil but now games evolved. Now we got cards and so on. My first session with 3rd WFRP was looking wierd. My players when saw it first said - is this a board game or what? But becouse we play board games and card game after the first session they said - wow, this if realy diferent but amazing. The aspect of collecting new cards and so many options of play are great. I respect that You Peacekeeper_B like playing without those components but I think if I have an option of customising my game then why not to do it? Maybe that's the reason why I play with cards, I just like to customise my games the way I like. PS. You know what? I think that in the future all products for WFRP will come in boxes but. The box will have a book and all needed components. And in that book at the end we will have tables with additional content published the way it is in Guides. So if there will be any new carrers, talents or actions we will see them also published in those books. -
And i think that every product in the future will come in box. In that box we will get cards, token, stand-ups and a book as it was so far. But in that book we will have a couple more pages that will future carreers, talents, actions and so on. So the products will be published the old way in boxes but will have a book with the same sort of content like in the guides so everybody can use them. That would make no diference if You play with cards or without them. I think this would be the best way of publishing WFRP in the future.

pumpkin said: Creature guide: P.69. Seized by Bloodlust. The entry is simply garbage compared to the corresponding card P. 77 Whip Strike. Has Skaven as a trait, but says it is used by Dark Elves. Presumably it is also used by Skaven. P.82. Cloak of DragonScales. Green text says add 4 recharge but banner says use 5. Can't check what the card says because my vault doesn't have one! P.86 Raise the Dead. The green text entry is missing some text compared to the card. The green text entry has 4 hammer success, card has 3 P.86 Run Run. Red text is wrong for 2 boons, say skaven gets to misfortune dice added rather than 2 fortune dice CR guide Generally. Missing entries for Devastating Swing, Beguile, Scything Death, Overrun (swarm version), Quick Quick Kill Kill cards all available in Creature Vault. Ok but I don't see the garbage on page 69. There a little diference between does - one line more. Whip Strike can be used by both. The Cloak Of DragonScales - the Vault has no such card. (I counted my cards just after opening the box, everything is alright when You compare the number of cards in the box with the reference sheet). The Run Run - Skaven Support in the book has a mistake, the card is correct. Let us be honest - when You have The Creature Guide & Vault You will see that there's a lot of diferences between them. Like those with a line more or less when You compare tables vs cards. Those products are good but full of inconsistencies.

Oh I found one more thing I want to share with You all. If You have the Guides than You can see that on many pages You can find such word like: "for more information look in Winds Of Magic" or "more deamons are in Signs Of Faith and Winds Of Magic" or "this card can be found in The Gathering Storm/ The Edge Of Night". So even if You bought the Guides You must buy previous expansions to have a full look to the game.

Nice one Chrull. I've doing the same always when I have time. A good picture sometimes says more then words. Thanks for shareing.

Peacekeeper_b said: But many, many people bought these vaults. Give it some time, and you will see the Chaos Vault, the Magic Vault as well as teh Chaos Guide and the Magic Guide. Yes but remember that many of those who bought it are the one who already own the core set and have all the expansions. If You look through the forum You will see that many of us are playing the game from the begining. We bought the G&V becouse we wanted not becouse we needed. look at the Creatures Vault - if You have all the expansions then You just updated those with a lot of cards and if You don't have those such cards as Chaos Sorceror Of Nurgle or Great Unclean One are useles. If You realy want to use those in Youre campain You need to buy the Signs Of Faith. So I don't think that does will come. But let use be honest if they will come I will buy those. Why? Becouse I got a collectors soul and I like to have it all. So how many such people as I'm are here? I don't think many. Oh, and one more thing on the forum is not the whole WFRP community and not every one who is playing the game is here.

Got my Hardcover Players Guide today..thoughts
ffgfan replied to Emirikol's topic in Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay
In my opinion the new character sheet is a big misunderstanding. It only is a prouf for me that You can't play the game without the components. The game was designed to play it with cards and tokens and that's the way it should be played - the best way in my opinion. That's just a way to write all componenst from cards to a paper sheet. You must write down everything from cards to tokens. That's the componentless veriosn of the game so - there no game without components. It's far more faster and easier to play with cards in Your hand then write everything down. The Ratcatchers Tale printed veriosn is good and I like it. I agre that the Players Guide is writen in a little more easy to understand language but nothing more. It's a reprint form the core set main book with just more examples. That's all. I got it becouse I have a collectors soul and I like to have all the WFRP products buy if I would be only a player who does not have enough money to buy those I would not do it. The Players/ GM G&V don't bring nothing new to the game. If You own the core set You will not find anything it those. Don't get my wrong those are good products if You don't have the core set and money to buy it. Then You can buy separately all what You need to start playing WFRP. PS. there was a question about the dice in the GM Vault, I just don't remeber where - so there are 12 dice, the same as in the dice box that You can buy. With only those You can't realy have fun with the game - You need more of those. The one in the core set are the best way to start (becouse there a lot of them in the core set). -
Darrett said: Count me in as well. Amazon is always later; not sure if this is FFG wanting to give smaller shops a chance to compete, or if it just reflects the size of the Amazon order. It's also not unheard of for them to get multiple delays. I got my Edge of Night mid-December, even though I preordered, due to the shipping date getting pushed back several times. That's the reason why I don't trust and don't buy at amazon. They always have a delay. You will see the G&V next year and I got my in december 2010 just before Christmas.

gsoul said: Although I agree that the game works better with components - this quoting of "Jay said" approach of yours FFGfan is getting a little old. FFG has changed their position on this kind of stuff before - and if they think they'll make more money by printing more guides (rather than updated guides) then they'll do it without blinking an eye (and who could blame them?). My opinion? There will be new guides in the future if the system lasts... and I certainly hope it does. These new guides will contain supplementary materials that have been released in component form (as Jay said!) a few years down the road. More on topic: I am annoyed with any inconsistencies - and would welcome a FAQ/Errata. Yes, I agre that's the economical aproach is something that can't be changed. And I agre that if FFG will think that they can make more money with it they will publish does. But still i hope that we will not see any more G&V in the future - for me those are a waste of time. Old stuff published in a new way - there's nothing new in them and the same time they could release something new and really valuable. Oh, and there's now errata in those if You don't think of cards (Aqsha, Double Strike, Rapid Fire) just more examples of play. So like I said for me the G&V are a waste of time and money from players point of view when we could have a lot on new materials for the game.

Pedro Lunaris said: let's all agree that FFG has done excelent work so far, and that we all are more or less enthusiastic players of WHFR 3e. what we are doing here pointing errors, expressing our disappointments, and asking for an errata is not claim that FFG doesn't deserves to mess with WHFR; it is to help FFG's WHRF products to become better, and more to our taste. it is a friend's help to question and demand better things, cause we care about this products. a lot! don't you agree? I agre that FFG is doing a great work with WFRP. I hope that we will see many amazing expansions to this game in the future. Ok, and I agre with You that a update in the FAQ would be nice. Just like a update with the components list on the support page that will have a list of G&V components.

Hi, are here any players from Wroclaw / Poland? I'm looking for more players to my group to play more Invasion.
-
@Dwang - I agre with You. I don't see a mistake here. @ Peacekeeper_B - the idea of this game was to play it with components not without them. And if You got the Players Guide You will see that there is no version of the game to play componentless. You must use some of them if You want or not. The tables in those books are good to see what actions are avaliable but to use those in the game - pointless and a terrible way to play becouse those are designed only to show many options. I will give You a example if I would have only the Guides and wanted to play then I would have to spent to much time finding informations in book or writening those on paper then playing the game. The table are impractical in my opinion .Even if You have all the G&V You still don't have all the informations and components published so far. Many informations from previous expansions are missing there - so to have it all You still need to buy those expansions. Oh and You forgot that Jay said that all the future expansions will still be published the same way as there were before. The Guide & Vaults were published to give players and GM an optional version of the core set nothing more. So if You bought the Guides and want still to play the game You will have to buy the expansions the way there are going to be published so in boxes with components - if You don't use then You can always throw those out. In my opinion this game only works realy good the way it was designed in the first pleace so with all those cards and components. So I think You're wrong - there will be no more G&V in the future.

doc_cthulhu said: Isn't if kinda weird that Black Fire Pass is released so "late" as there's also an intro adventure to it to be downloaded? Not that I'm complaining. I'll have my witches first thank you very much. But just a thought. I agre with You Doc, that's something that I can't explain. But still the first half of next year will bring many really good products. I can't wait for every one of those.

There are maybe some inconsistencies but for me this is no need for an errata. In my opinion You need the Creature Vault to make a good use out of the Guide. Both product are good and handy. And having both give a good GM many useful option to play and customise His game the way he wants. PS. @ Pumpkin - there will be no more Guides in the future as far as I know and Jay confirmed that at the seminar. This is just a one time.

keltheos said: So having read there are some errors and inconsistencies I figured a compiling thread for them would make sense. I just got my first purchase, the Player's Guide, today and in just flipping through it I noticed one (so far), so I'll start the ball with that: pg. 140 directs players to the Advanced careers starting on pg. 167...it should read pg. 165. You call this an error? That's no error only a small mistake and nothing more so there's no need for an errata to this.

So absolutely no Fluff in the upcoming Guides?
ffgfan replied to D4M0CLES's topic in WFRP Archived Announcements
There's no new fluff. If You got the core set then there's no need for You to buy Players Guide & GM Guide becouse You will get the same info. There's just no new material in those. -
I did not get my Bleeding Sun before Christmas but at the beginning of the new year I will. It looks good I must say and I can't wait for the new cards and then for the new cycle. The next year is looking cool for all the Warhammer titles (I'm a WFRP fan also ) Becouse this is my last messege before Christmas: Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 2011, for every Warhammer fan, not only Invasion! We will see us next Year.

I just got all the Guides & Vaults so I can tell. I f You have the core set the GM Vault & Players Vault will not bring anything new to You. It the same content as in the core set and only that. Of, sorry there is 1 change in the Players Vault are 4 new stand-ups (a new priest You can see Him in The Tome of Blessing on page 30 and 3 new Dwarf stand ups from the demo adventure Journey To Black Fire Pass). But the Creature Vault is the same in size as Players Vault but has a lot of new thing (many action card, monster cards and group sheet). Also many new stand-ups. What You would wish to know is that in the Guides are some thing that I like. It looks like this - GM Guide & Players Guide has nothing new in it. it looks like a reprint form the core set with some materials from expansions. We also got the new character sheet. But when You see the Creature guide You will be in heaven - many new monsters with a little bit fluff. The Creature Guide is a must have for every WFRP fan. I think this could be my last messege before Christmas so: Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 2011, to everyone on this forum, especialy to all WFRP fans!
