Because maybe they want a product that appeals to people who enjoy the collectible model?  Companies don't grow and stay profitable by simply doing the same thing for the same markets over and over again.

CCGs are not "extorting" anyone. They are a leisure product. There are quite literally millions of ways to spend your entertainment budget. Some people enjoy collecting and hunting down "rare" items to finish their collection. Some people would rather just get their entire experience right out of the box. These are both equally valid forms of buying games. Just because you do not have that collector's mentality, does not mean that appealing to it is "extortion", it's simply catering to a different audience.

And to say that it is done out of "greed" is a little silly. We live in a capitalistic society. People create products to make money to support themselves (and if their products are good enough, to make a LOT of money and indulge in luxuries.) It is no more greedy to sell a CCG to collectors than to sell an LCG to non-collectors. The end goal is the same: make as much money as possible. If that wasn't the goal, they would sell the games at their cost, which is much lower than you are paying for LCG sets.

I have zero interest in LCGs. I have never purchased an FFG product, but the idea of a collectible card and dice game set in the Star Wars universe is intriguing to me. The dice look to be of a high quality (which gives Destiny the nod over Dice Masters, even though I'm a bigger Marvel nerd than Star Wars nerd these days), the artwork/graphic design on the cards looks top-notch, the gameplay looks interesting, and it seems fairly easy to collect (WAY easier than Magic, my main CCG). All of those things add up to FFG getting my money for the first time. Good for them. Any company that can pique my interest in the same way will get my dollars.

I don't think this is nearly as long as the wait for Star Wars: The Card Game or X-Wing. X-Wing was 13 months and Star Wars LCG was 16 (granted, the LCG had a complete redesign, but it didn't change how long I waited for that game).

It could be worse. Just think of how all the L5R players feel. It's been around 10 months since they announced getting the license, and they still have a year to wait.

I think it might be fair to say that the Clan War was the best "Epic Fantasy" L5R story arc, as it featured the climatic Good vs. Evil battle to save the world, had dramatic arcs of corruption and redemption, and ultimately came down to a battle of a small, plucky band of heroes against an unstoppable evil.

That being said, I would place the Four Winds as the best "Samurai Drama" L5R story arc, as its primary driving story was samurai vs samurai, dealt with themes of "What makes a good leader?" and "How does your choice of a leader reflect you as a person?", and while it had stakes that (literally) shook the heavens, it was ultimately decided on the small scale, not on the epic battle scale.

Again, this is just some thoughts and feedback is welcome on this! Did you like the Four Winds because of its focus on samurai drama? Did you like the Clan War because of the epic storytelling? Is it the opposite?

Of the arcs I've played during my favorite is definitely the Age of Exploration. That whole year was just so exciting with an awesome map that you got to see fill in as the Clans claimed territory.

There Will Be Blood was frustrating. It was too chaotic and there was too much character death, which I suppose was the point but it was narratively unsatisfying.

2014 and 2015 were both incredibly 'meh'.

One of my favorite subplots is the ongoing effort to keep the Spider from choosing a new Obsidian Champion.

I would very much prefer the story continue. Makoto needs to stay Imperial Advisor and the Imperial Navy needs to remain a thing or I will be exceedingly irritated.

Looking at the card list, there's only 20 to 25 characters in the initial set. There's loads of characters that could come out in the future without even having repeats, even only mining the movies themselves. Here's a list I came up with in about 5 minutes just from the top of my head that could fill another set, avoiding duplicates:
Jar-Jar Binks (live with it, he is canon) Obi-Wan Kenobi Chewbacca General Hux Wedge Antilles Bossk IG-88 Palpatine General Rieekan Unkarr Plutt Sebulba Admiral Piett Grand Moff Tarkin Wickett General Tarpals Captain Panaka Bib Fortuna Boba Fett Snap Wexley Nien Nunb So, there's 20 more for another set, and that's not even touching Clone Wars or Rebels. Not to mention some of the really cool new characters being introduced in the books, like Admiral Sloane.

I'd say they have plenty to choose from before they even needed to touch on duplicates, though they probably will to give different play styles using the same characters.

I understood that. I'm saying that regardless of what Disney decides to do with Legends content, FFG can't act on it until that information is either publically available, or shared privately with FFG.

Well yeah...I thought that was a given...FFG can't do anything without permission from Disney. The point of my post was to point out that they (Disney) have added EU content back in and may continue to do so, and as they do it could give options to this game. That's all.

While I do agree with you, none of that is FFG's call, and from my personal standpoint, if it's going to be strictly canon, I wouldn't want them to venture into uncharted territory with characters that might never reappear. A consistent approach is my bread and butter when it comes to this sort of thing.

I've always thought a map of the galaxy far, far away would be fun for Star Wars gaming. Way more flavorful than a bunch of little dudes standing on Kylo Ren versus a bunch of little dudes standing on Yoda.

I completely forgot about those actually, I purchased the sword and blood splatter last year and after 2 weeks the decal was coming up and the bag itself started flaking. FFG usually has superb products however those dice bags were so bad that was one of the things that prompted me to make my own. If the Star wars bags are made the same way (which they look like they are) I feel they will suffer the same design flaws. Mine will be better quality and cheaper (5$ plus shipping). I still use the DM bags I made.

Well, of the material in the first set, it appears to be based on canon material, but with liberties taken in that some of the artwork depicts characters not seen in the movies but who might exist somewhere in the galaxy.

I will be doing the same. I've done it for years. In fact that is one of my goals in the Facebook group I founded, is to create a safe place to trade. If you aren't interested, friend me on here and shoot me messages when the set comes out.

MarthWMaster got a reaction from JediGeekGirl in Rate of new sets: speculation
    Luke Skywalker, Jedi Knight (seen)
    Luke Skywalker, A New Hope
Luke Skywalker, Heir of the Jedi
    Luke Skywalker, Yoda's Disciple
    Luke Skywalker, Ace Pilot
    Luke Skywalker, Heroic Destiny
    Luke Skywalker, Hero of Endor
    Luke Skywalker, Young Rebel
    Luke Skywalker, Anakin's Offspring
    Luke Skywalker, Just A Myth
    Luke Skywalker, Returned Master
Luke Skywalker, Force Ghost (speculative, support card)
So there's Luke for the next three years, and that's assuming we see him in every set, which isn't necessarily the case as we're missing some big names in this initial set. It just takes a bit of creativity and wordsmithing, and also looking at the same character from different angles, as ideally each card should represent a distinct facet of who they are.

I've been fighting for this for so long, for all Star Wars fans to be treated equally, for ALL of Star Wars to be treated equally. SOO happy we are finally seeing Prequel trilogy and more Sequel trilogy stuff.

I do hope this means we see more Prequel love elsewhere, as like you said, it's noticeably absent from pretty much all of FFG's other Star Wars games.

Anyone else notice this is really the first FFG Star Wars game to really utilize Prequel content, I mean we've had some stuff here and there in the RPG and a few ships and stuff in X-wing but this is the first to really try and use Prequel era characters. I wonder if this might mean that we might finally be seeing more Prequel focused releases from FFG, or if this is sort of its own thing?

So much this. Same with your Prequel hate. We GET it, you don't like them. Lots of people do. This isn't 1999 anymore. Move on if you hate the Prequels or TFA that much.

I am also really looking forward to draft and multiplayer formats. So many possibilities!
