I agree with all that has been said here. While Jigoku now acts with the calculated menace of Daigotsu, it does not have to be that way in-game. Let's have it go back to being a mindless, uncontrollable force of nature, rather than a deck that a player can sit behind.

Star Wars is a stronger IP than Runebound.

I'm much in favor of multiplayer for the same reason I like it in my Thrones. Both are very "multiplayer" settings. Like, Star Wars is a two-player battle of light side versus dark side, and most of the games based on it, FFG-era and earlier, have reflected this in their designs. But Legend of the Five Rings is all about alliances and intrigues, an eternal war over the souls of mankind that most of said mankind thinks is mere myth and self-aggrandizement by the Crab Clan, while in the shadows you have the secret society known as the Kolat: an entirely human-based but no less dire threat to the Empire, who think the gods are tyrants and that humanity should be free to govern itself.

Bottom line: What makes L5R such a compelling setting is how multifaceted it is, and restricting it to a two-player game (even as much as I agree that this should be the default tournament format) would be a great shame given the opportunity presented by the reboot.

Double sided characters and backgrounds wouldn't require fancy sleeves because they're not deck cards.  They all start out on the table.  I would NOT ever want to see double sided events/supports/upgrades.  That would be a nightmare.

I always participated in the Game of Thrones 1.0 Melee Tournaments at gencon when I had the chance, and I always used an core set 'starter' deck to do so, because multiplayer is all about the kvetching, pity, and backstab, not the cardboard

The new Arkham Horror card game had a promo card set released only to attendees of their Arkham Nights event in MN. People sold those on eBay for $100 -- literally two days later, FFG had them available from their webstore for $15. It's just excitement of getting it first, but I'd say for most people, a couple weeks of patience is worth $85.

Oddly enough I had the opposite reaction, which was that while I liked the mechanics of SWCCG, it felt too slow and methodical to bring out the feel of the Star Wars saga. But when they took a proprietary IP and rebranded the game with it, I was hooked. Then they got embezzled to within an inch of their life and had to pretty much close up everything they were doing. But WARS was fantastic for the five or six minutes we got to play it.

I totally agree that WARS was a fun game.  Unfortunately it also experienced a lot of bloat of useless cards and the power creep would have been a nightmare in that game.
I am hoping that we have a gradual creep in Destiny.

While the nostalgia still runs strong in many who played the old Decipher game, lets not kid ourselves that it didn't have major issues.  They even brought back the game in the short lived WARS, which was actually pretty decent.  But what really made SWCCG was the SW, not the CCG part.

The game itself is dated and beyond bloated.  Looking back on the game, it didn't even get good until objectives were introduced.

Personally, while the base mechanics were great, I am okay with it dying with big D.

I actually love the job FFG has done on Destiny and really can't wait to get it in my hands and play the hell out of it.  It is modern, easy to learn, but looks to have a ton of complexity.

A free-for-all mode might be fun. It wouldn't be very thematic, but neither is having Ren and Dooku team up, so I say the more the merrier!

And seriously, if this kind of game doesn't appeal to you, don't buy it.  FFG will still keep making the kinds of games you do like.  They're not going to show up one day and take all your X-Wing miniatures or all your Arkham expansions because you're not buying enough Destiny.  Have your fun and let other people have theirs.
