  1. Yea I agree. I was only wondering if there are any restriction as to placing monsters on 'special spaces' (those with some token) on start, but it becomes apparent that there is none.

I was also wondering if even though a monster sits on one teleport you could technically still teleport there then teleport to next teleport finally stoping on the one which is empty. Though after re-reading rules which say that you treat them as adjacent spaces the answer would be no, i.e. you cannot teleport to a place where a monster is located, right?

I don't think that the presence of a monster upon a Search token prohibits an adjacent hero to search it - nor a hero to activate a special token if a monster is sitting on it.

Yea you can still search or activate though with these teleporters you had to move on it so it would block you, thus it is important if in this way OL can block you from using it, I wonder.

Great job. I will try that myself.

BTW: What did you use for making the markings on a dice? Also did you use the method linked by Kallabecca to make these dices?

Additionally as per the original question, I am getting one set when it becomes available.

  4. I agree here with you guys as to the deployment. The rules clearly state to place monsters inside a tile.

I would like to follow this question. And ask about OL's deployment on special tokens.

For example can OL place his/hers monsters at start on a treasure token or any other token e.g. in one quest there are special tokens which are teleporters?

I wonder if in the end it is all up the the OL and how annoying he/she wants to be?

Playtesting mostly happens at my hometable - the PBF moddings I do due to public demand, to catch errors and to provide further playtesting.

Speaking of progess, an hour ago I finished the final maps and their texts! So the complete campaign is available now!

I am working now on createing cards for the lieutenants, relics and new items, heroes, classes and overlord cards I intend to add in. If someone is expierienced with it, I could provide all raw data and input and would add your credits to the campaign.

@Morthai fantastic work you are doing. Keep it up and I do hope you will not stop just on this campaign :)

Also if you would link/show/wrote a tutorial on how to make your own cards it would be nice.

I agree and never implied it could not affect a lieutnant.

It was your comparison with adjacency effects that I was adressing.

Now, I don't think that, if there were more than one lieutenant in an encounter that more than one could be affected, as each lieutnant is its own monster group. JMO.

Well in your previous answer Robin it wasn't clear to me what your stand on my question was, since you gave examples of monster types that didn't include lieutenants. :)

No matter that all is clear an good here as all is in the rules as rugal referred.

You are right and it is not only your opinion but also rules state that lieutenants, and I quote page 17 of the Rule Book: "Each lieutenant is treated as its own monster group."  For this reason only one lieutenant can be affected by Ashrian's Heroic Feat.

  7. I would personally lean towards what Dam said i.e. that in this case he 'rescued' himself, particularly that I come from RPG background and mixing some of it into this type of a boardgame is not only fun but also a must in order to interpret some of the rules and most importantly to enjoy the game more.

Anyway it happen to me that I got blocked too often by my Overlord (OL) plus the OL discovered both guests I got the cultists, also having goblins in this board is big advantage for OL as they move like lighting and you are only playing two heroes.

Though I won by the die roll of 0 (blank side of grey die) of 0 guests rescued the encounter finished in 2 turns. It was weird experience particularly that I didn't enjoy it at all as no matter the result I barely did anything in this encounter. Thus, the only thing I must say this encounter suxs big time, though the idea is very intriguing and could be lots of fun if either the board is larger or the Overlord plays more like a game master so heroes will have time to enjoy it :)

The 2nd part was lots of fun though, but I must say only because I 'won' the 1st encounter (as I said I didn't feel like I won it in any way) and this way the rule was in place that the OL's Lady had to test her's knowledge in order to pass through doors. Otherwise if this rule is not in place heroes can straight away move to the next quest as they simply have no way of stopping her.

After all I lost the quest but it could have been different if only I had not missed the Lady with my axe :)

Great quest though the first part should be IMHO re-designed in order to give more fun, particularly that from it depends the outcome of the whole quest.

  8. Nice idea.

I would suggest to (re)use the quest tracker from the original sheet it is perfect for its job of campaign progress tracking.

But in my opinion useful would be on the other side to have more space to track on what exact skill the experience went for and what items were sold and purchased with the gold. I find it currently lacking.

Something like the card on the board-game-geak looks not bad: http://boardgamegeek.com/filepage/80940/descent-2e-character-tracking-sheet

Though it is too complex it all could be on one piece of card where you would just write what you bought, then who is using it doesn't real matter as heroes can exchange items before a quest start, and they use gold from a common pot anyway.

Personally something of this form would be sufficient for each player, so 5 in total including Overlord:

    ………. total exp earned

    skill name  | exp cost

    ……………….. |…………….

    ……………….. |…………….

And two more tables: one for gold and item purchase/sell (or artefacts won) tracking and one for overlord to track artefacts won (though you can figure out who has which artefact by looking at the campaign progress). Something like this would be more useful then the current tiny chracter sheet as you could easily pick the campaign up even after a longer break, and you can remind yourself what was bough what sold etc.

Anyway we use a single piece of paper for all except the campaign progress tracking and we are very happy with that :)

It is about a monster group, that is monsters of a given type (e.g. Ettins, spiders, etc.).

Those monsters don't need to be adjacent. They just need to belong to the same group to be affected.

So from what you are saying you would say that lieutenants are not a group thus they cannot be affected, right? Thought the first part says "..target a monster..", and at least according to my thinking lieutenants are monsters as well. Still the 2nd part of it would not be quite right unless you would see them as a single unit group.

Or maybe I am over-thinking it? Maybe because I think since it is a skill which you use once per encounter thus it should be strong/heroic (enough) to affect any monsters of your choice.

  10. Hi all.

I would like to ask for a clarification of the Heroic Feat of the Ashrian character.

The Heroic Feat reads: "Chose a monster within 3 spaces of you. Each monster in that monster group is Stunned."

Particularly I wonder if it can be used against lieutenants.

Though if I think about it for a while, as some sources might indicate, a lieutenant is not considered a monster thus this might not work on them. On the other hand many skills read that they apply to monsters, e.g. Berserker's Whirlwind skill, which reads: "Perform an attack with a Melee weapon targeting all adjacent monsters. You make 1 attack roll and each monster rolls its defence dice separately."

Would it mean that the Whirlwind skill does not affect lieutenants?

Otherwise I would see it, both the Feat and Skill, applicable against all Overlord units. At least I see it that monster in fact means any unit controlled by Overlord where, in general, we have 3 types: minion monsters, master monsters and lieutenants.

    All the Best,

  11. Hi all.

I would like to ask for clarification of the special rule on this quest. It is not very clear what do the author meant by:

"The heroes can now move off the map through the Entrance. A hero who leaves the map this way return to the Entrance tile on his next turn by performing a move action (or suffering 1 stamina) to move 1 space."

This is the rule that is in place after heroes find the Discarded Map.

If the first sentence is clear the 2nd part makes me wonder if it means that heroes are allowed to teleport to the Entrance in their next turn?

All the Best and thanks in advance, AnChorr.

  12. What do you think of the Descent, as one of frineds recommended it to me, as it is similar to Heroquest and maybe a bit to the Space Hulk, of which I have only played the Space Hulk ages ago and I remember it was hell of a fun?

Would it be worth to buy the Descent, well it is very expensive therefore I am not to eger to buy it without asking first, or maybe you can recommend an alternative game to it?

    Cheers.

There is an RSS feed associated with each forum at FFG. I have one at Talisman Island (for my sporadic updates!), BoardGameGeek forums, Occasional Gamer (home of oTalisman) and a couple more have them, like the French Edge Forums.

Thank you talismanislan for the information above.

I checked the image (link below) of, what seems to be and all are saying is the back of the Dungeon expansion for the revisied 4th edition, but can anyone tell me why it seems that the back of an adventure card, visible in the image, is of a green color instead of the regular brownish color?

You are not colorblind by any chance? The adventurecards are clearly green.

Well thank you guzerat for pointing that out, it was a while since I had my eyes checked.

I put the cards from the Talisman box next to the image of the card from the back of the Dungeon expansion and the one on that image is green like a nasty goblin, when the one from the box is maybe very slightly green.

Maybe it is UK edition with this kind of cards only. I will have a look on them again today and I will try to provide a picture so all can see what I mean.

Cheers for your concern guzerat. :)

You are right guzerat they are greenish but only when you look at them from a close distance, else from a distance they seem to be a bit brownish.

Anyway, mainly just to be stuborn - I think the one on the image is greener then my cards. :)

My nitpick trait kicked in, so have to ask if you can use Staff of Mastery or the spell Dominate to grab a Spirit? Both cards say Enemy, but also only talk about said enemy adding it's Strength to yours for one battle.

I am also very much interested in an answer to Dan's question (above), it happen to me just yesterday that we had a discussion around the Talisman table how we are going to play these items' skills (Staff of Mastery or the spell Dominate), and agreed that you can only capture enemies with strength, but personally I think if it says enemy means all that oppose you so it should include spirits. I would be happy if one of the cards creators could answer this what was the original purpose of the card when he was creating it, because it seems to me to be a kind of spelling mistake, that resulted in a logic conflict.

    Cheers.

    Hi AnChorr,

The only thing what they have said is this:

FFG’s third Talisman expansion alone will feature more “Toadarific” encounters than all of the 2nd Edition expansions combined!

What can we expect in the future for Talisman?

The Reaper expansion is the first expansion and should be available. The expansion after that introduces new characters, cards, and even more surprises. We will be running a special teaser promotion here at Talisman Island so stay tuned for more info.

    ----------

We already know by now, that the second expansion is the Dungeon expansion. ( so that's the surprise;)

So the third expansion has something to do with more toad encounters. ( i still hope that we get new toad character figures)

Hi Velhart and thank you for the information.

Do you have or is there some RSS feed for only Talisman connected news to which I can subscribe to, as I have noticed on the FFG site only a general news feed, which is no interest to me?

Thanks again for the information it makes me more eager to see what is coming next :)

    Cheers.

We always had a gambler that could not pay lose a life in 2e. As I play more R4e I will introduce some stuff I have been thinking of, assuming my buddies like the ideas.

Here is a new set of choices for the Tavern. I changed the Wizard teleport to a barge captain because I thought it had a better feel to it. Wouuld you trust a Wizard that had been drinking? You guys give this a try and let me know what you think

    Please observe the new rules...
Room Rental: Pay 1 gold, miss one turn, heal one Life.

    or

Drinks and Revelry: Roll 1 die
1: You get blind drunk, collapse in a corner and miss one turn
    2: A farm hand (STR 3) picks a fight!
3: Young bravo (STR 5) challenges you!
4: You spend a quiet evening swapping tales of adventure.
5: A barge captain offers to take you to any outer region space on your next turn.
6: A ferry operator offers to take you to the Temple on your next turn.

    or

    Gambling
The game is high roll. Roll one die for your character and one for the house High roll wins all the gold in the pot. The house wins all ties. If you loose, place 1gold in the pot, if you do not have any gold to pay you have one life beaten out of you...cheater!

Very nice idea and interesting suggestion about the drunken Wizard :)

  19. Absolutely something like it.

I would like to see Talisman's "economy" being build-up with each expansion, maybe giving players opportunity to trade with each other.

  20. I don't agree that Timescape should have been the first expansion. For me it was a bit weird to see guys with the guns in the fantasy times, and the board was ugly. But after giving it a try it was even nice to play it. I think they did good that they presented the Reaper as the first expansion as it showed that they are actually trying to come up with something new, at least I didn't played this expansion before.

It gives me hope that future expansions are going to be fresh with a lot of innovative elements, not just plain copy and past expansions, as it often happens with re-released games.

    Cheers.

  21. I would strongly recommend to actually allow the player to chose when there is an opportunity to do so (i.e. to visit or not to visit the city/village), after all Talisman is almost Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay just on a board.

I really like the idea, that one of you mentioned i.e. burning the next obtained coin when you loose one in the tavern (to pay the debt). Interesting seams a variation of it when you have a time limit to pay the debt it could add additional fun to the game e.g. the guy to whom we own the money, when we are late could send after us a "debt collector", send a warrant/ put aquest card in the tavern so visiting play could take the quest and earn the money for the 'collection', etc.

This might be an opportunity allowing to intruduce more RPG aspect into the game (quests), but this could increase game complexity as there would be a need to track what is happening in the background and possibly we would end up hiring a game master.

Following my last thought it would be very good to have some quest guild or other place (e.g. could be located in the castle expansion), where you can take a quest to earn some money as currently it depends only on your luck if you find something in an adventure card; following it would be even nicer to have more opportunities to actually spend the money (e.g. potions: Life, Craft, Strength, like the Strength potion adventure card) as currently when you have a donkey, sword and armour you don't need anything more, and some charaters need even less.

    Cheers.

  22. Hope the Dungeon will come soon, and it will be followed by other expansions. I wonder if anyone of you guys have heard if the FFG company made any statement about their future plans considering the Talisman and its expansions, as I don't want to bolieve that they are going to make just newer copies of old ideas, at least I would prefer to see something new and fresh like the Reaper expansion. It is 100% new to me as the first time I meet Talisman it was at least 10 years ago and additionally it was Polish release which as I heard was different, slightly from the 2nd or 3rd edition.

The Dungeon board that I remember was more like a spiral not L-shaped. Do you have some comments on that e.g. what we can expect on this board, is it similar to any of the previous dungeons?

    Cheers.
