This is confusing, because you have to use a manoeuvre to engage. So, how could you disengage (move) without using a manoeuvre? Perhaps you must do that and nothing else. In other words, leave combat, but no attacks or other actions. Dunno.

FIXED Now multiple symbols (of the same type of course) between pair of brackets can be used for dice. Symbols for dice faces will stay as they are (one symbol, or no symbol for each face). On behalf of the WFRP3, Thank You. Great work - it looks really sick -

Hehe, think customer service would have a larf if some people sent their kit back claiming it was faulty because it lacked "new smell"? Even better, if they released an 'errata' that contained a little spray bottle of 'new book smell' so you could fix the problem!

After all was said and done, there is no visible wear on the book. I know this is a short test, but what I'm trying to say is 'it didn't fall apart'. The spine appears to be adequately flexible. It lays down on a table open to a page without flipping pages (one side propped on the other books in the set). The cover appears to be resistant to hand oils. I even spilled a few drops of black coffee on one of the pages, it wiped off without stain or wrinkling (I didn't let it sit, the pages are semi-gloss). There are no visible stresses in the seam. Sometimes, if you favor a page, the book will flip open to that page automatically. That hasn't happened yet. I have no paper cuts that I am aware of So far - so good. My only concern is the lack of smell. There is no 'new book smell'. Something is fishy here... Nezzir, I see you list Descent as one of your favourite games. Have you seen any of the campaigns? (Road to Legend and Sea of Blood). Are the rulebooks similar to the books of the Descent campaigns? If the quality is similar or better they'll be good enough... although I would love to see them publishing books similar in quality to what they published for WFRP2, DH and Rogue Trader. A second question. Some time ago, I helped you with the ruleset of WFRP2 for Fantasy Grounds. Are you going to prepare a ruleset for WFRP3? They are very similar to the Descent: Road to Legend campaign book, particularly in finish (both cover and pages), but appear to be a slightly heavier paper weight (both cover and pages). The bindings are also similar, though a side-by-side shows a little thicker glue seam maybe. The extra weight of the pages make the books lay nicely, and I think if they survive to 'cure', which is to say limber up, they will be very flexible. This is a big relief to one of my biggest worries. It's still too early to accurately judge longevity, but initial impressions are positive. Someone mentioned the WFB army books. I had terrible luck with those. I think these are better. Oh, you helped my with the WFRP2 FG project? Sweet. Thanks man. The initial ruleset for WFRP1 and WFRP2 were intentionally designed so that you would need the books to play. I wanted to play online with friends that had moved away, and I wanted to contribute to the FG community, but I didn't want to hurt sales for a product I really loved. It's the same (and maybe more so) with WFRP3. I won't create a ruleset for this version unless I get 'official permission' from the publishers. I have asked for permission, but I did not pursue it. Instead, I turned that duty over to the new owner of Fantasy Grounds, Doug Davidson. Doug is in the process of approaching FFG with a proposal of some sort. If he is successful, I'm not sure I will be doing the project. Though I've written 3 rulesets, I am no programmer. I did it with reverse engineering and brute force. There was no finesse If for some reason the project were assigned to me, I would put together a team to help write it and I would likely slip into a project management/editor/assistant programmer (grunt)/content overseer (to make sure it retains that 'Old World' feel). I would probably approach the guys that wrote the 4E_JPG ruleset first. Now THOSE guys are programmers. Some of the scripts they wrote are simply elegant. I would accept no less than the best quality possible for the product and so I would need help. The short answer is, I'd like to and we're talking to FFG about it.

Action Card Recharge vs. Fast Weapon Quality
NezziR replied to NezziR's topic in WFRP Rules Questions
Here's my 'Un-Official Errata" for my group so far: Page 74, 'Fast' weapon quality: "These weapons are generally easy to wield and agile. When an attack with a fast weapon hits, one less recharge token is placed on the corresponding action card." Page 74, 'Reload' weapon quality: "A weapon with the reload quality requires extra time to load and fire. The character must perform a special reload manoeuvre with this weapon before using it for an action. You may not perform a reload manoeuvre if you are engaged." Page 79, Academic and Writing Tools, Common: 25s - 75s Page 80, Trade Tools: Replace the phrase 'scarce trade tools' with 'rare trade tools' and 'rare trade tools' with 'exotic trade tools' as there is no 'scarce' rarity on the charts, and the text implys that 'rare trade tools' are 'exotic'. My group will use this until an official errata is released. -

Sunatet said: Phew... NezNotation added . Check it out and tell me if it is ok . Ahahaha! That's awesome dude! Sample Output: <B>{N}<B>*S*(G)*SB*<P>{B}{C} May want to fix it so you don't have to add the face to put a string in, maybe have it default to [N], <N>, or (N) That way, you could paste a string in and have it build the pool. Then, when you roll, it changes the string to reflect the faces (Edit: I see it already does this part). Again, that's awesome! Edit: The colors look the same as listed above in Google Chrome. Off to bed - night all. -
Action Card Recharge vs. Fast Weapon Quality
NezziR replied to NezziR's topic in WFRP Rules Questions
Although we try to stay as close to RAW as possible, I think I see a fixer-upper. The 'Reload' quality states: "A weapon with the reload quality requires extra time to load and fire. The character must perform a special reload manoeuvre with this weapon before using it for an action or else the action check suffers an additional <p> challenge die" I may have to change that to: "A weapon with the reload quality requires extra time to load and fire. The character must perform a special reload manoeuvre with this weapon before using it for an action." May also add: "Reloading while engaged requires a <P> coordination test. Failure means you fail to reload the weapon. A failure that contains {BB} renders the weapon unusable till the end of the scene so the character may effect repairs." -or, alternately- "You may not perform a reload manoeuvre if you are engaged." I'm still thinking about that last part... Might even change that to 'Discipline', instead of 'Coordination' as it seems reloading when a beastman is trying to eat your face off would be more 'stressful' than 'fatiguing'. -

Action Card Recharge vs. Fast Weapon Quality
NezziR replied to NezziR's topic in WFRP Rules Questions
Oooo - I like that. Edit: Ah, but using the 'Slow' property as an example, it is likely that the word 'misses' will be replaced with the word 'hits' in the final errata. Presumed entry correction: Page 74, 'Fast' weapon quality: "These weapons are generally easy to wield and agile. When an attack with a fast weapon hits, one less recharge token is placed on the corresponding action card." -
On page 50, under Action Card Elements / Recharge Rating, it states "Note that action cards do not acquire any recharge tokens if the check to perform the action failed - recharge tokens are only placed on the card after it is successfully used." On page 74, under the 'Fast' weapon quality, it states "These weapons are generally easy to wield and agile. When an attack with a fast weapon misses, one less recharge token is placed on the corresponding action card." Typo or am I missing something?

Update: Minstrel: Replace 'Urban' with 'Rogue'. Replace 'Skullduggery' with 'Weapon Skill' (for a more duelist, less thief flavor) Bard: Replace 'Urban' with 'Rogue'. Add 'Weapon Skill'.

lordsneek said: Can a character advance in characteristics like they could in 2nd edition? Can they advance in charateristics at all or is it stuck at what they bought at character creation? I would really like to know because I haven't seen any characteristic advances on the careers from the designer diaries. Yes, it just costs more if it's not one of your 'primary characteristics'. Advancements cost a number of advances equal to the new rating. 4 to 5 costs 5.

monkeylite said: commoner said: One last question, bit of a dispute we're trying to clarify really, do Boons count as successes if there are no effects on the action card? I'm saying no (because I've never read it) my friend says yes (something with the dice roller or other). Could anybody clarify please? They do not. Maybe he's thinking about Sigmar's Comet. You can use it to trigger effects on cards, or use it as a boon or a success. You can also use it to activate your weapon's crit. The Chaos Star, on the other hand, may only trigger card effects or otherwise count as a bane.

HedgeWizard said: How are advancing power levels for wizards/priests handles then, given there are only the 1 advanced career? I am really looking forward to receiving my copy and reading through the new system. I did just get to a "Steady state" with my v2 materials (I had all the core books I felt were necessary for my campaigns), and I feel like I will be losing some of the efforts put there; but excited at the new possibilities too! It will take them a few releases to catch up to V2 (which is... well, obvious). Looking at the core set, running games with it would be, as expected, like running games with just the V2 core book - which is to say, capable and hungry for more As for the wizard, it would take a while to burn through both careers (around 20 sessions if you did nothing but burn strait through). However, there are a lot of options for advancements that improve your character that don't advance you in your career (so maybe a lot more than 20). One of the coolest things about the divine and arcane casters is that you can purchase spells that are of greater rank than you are. They cost more, and are more difficult to cast, but are more powerful - so you could wield powers that are beyond you - for a price... I'm being vague because I haven't finished the caster books yet. Suffice to say, unless you start out with a very advanced character, you'll still be working through advancements when an expansion will likely come out that will allow you to advance further (I'm guessing here).

The Acolyte and Disciple are the advanced careers for the Apprentice and Initiate.

I've got a scenario I've been working on converting. It's actually kind of fun to write, coming up with new ways to run the mini-challenges using the tracking pieces. However, I'm prepping for the demo event, and I've got some other projects in the pipe, so it will be a while before I get a chance to work on it

I'm as excited about other people getting this game as I am for myself. The positive upswing in opinion will be significant once people see the product. I have been to the mountain and the view is amazing

HedgeWizard said: How difficult will it be to translate old careers into new careers (spells withstanding)? It's easiest to convert an old career into the closest similar career and specialize from there; but what about careers that don't seem to translate? Perhaps FFG could give us a blank career template that we can use to create new careers + print from? It appears to be very easy to create needed careers. See my Minstrel/Bard post here: javascript:void(0);/*1257992934886*/ The career sheets are a simple framework. The real character customization comes when you choose your attributes, skills (and specializations), talents, action cards, stance pieces, etc. So, while the career templates are awesome, look great, and add necessary flavor, they should be easy to modify or create. Some observations: There are 10 'advances' on every career in the 'advances' block - no more no less (that I've seen) There are an average of 5 to 7 career skills There are 2 primary characteristics There are 4 traits, and most of them have one of 'Basic' or 'Intermediary' (for advanced careers) Don't forget the talent sockets and stance keys The back has flavor text, special rules (like who can enter the career) and typical trappings. Check out the designer diaries for sample career entries to use an an example.

Idea for future expansion to Sunatet's awesome die roller: You could add a 'dice pool builder' Add fields like this: Strength or Toughness <B>: Weapons or Ballistic Skill trained (Y)? Conservative (G): Reckless ®: Fortune Spent [W]: Difficulty <P>: Targets Defense : Other GM Modifiers : Then, you could allow them to enter a single digit integer into each field. Then, you could build the pool from the entries and export the results to the roll field with a [build] button. You could also do something similar with damage rolls (with a bit of thought). -

The notation, according to the current system, for Success+Exertion would be: Success *S* + Exertion {E} = *SE} Nez Notation is very flexible! Same for the other combo symbols. Success + Boon = *SB* Success + Delay = *SD} -

I guess we also need to add [N], <N>, and (N) for blanks. 'N' stands for 'Nothing'. I use that rather than 'B' so as not to conflict with Blue and Black.
