What one career do you wish was in the set but isn't?
NezziR replied to Emirikol's topic in Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay
Minstrel or Bard. Though Felix was a 'Student' to start with, I always pictured him as a Bard of sorts. -
There are also times when it goes up by the rules, such as when a reckless caster rolls a chaos star.

So, is that a nay or a yay on the trappings? (see OP)

Loswaith said: That I'd be one fancy tinderbox given the work and materials that go into a bedroll. Oh yes, it's very special. It even has a magic cricket that... is unrelated to fire starting. But hey - cricket. Amiright? Yeah, I was just guessing. I'm not sure if it falls in that price bracket or not (one of my players has my books till tomorrow).

Loswaith said: I would think an advanced careers pack, given the small amount of advanced careers given with the core set. I'd say that's a pretty good guess. No one would turn down a character pack and an expanded bestiary.

Inking the sides of your cards and chits

morskittar said: Has anyone tried sorting the action cards in a "book" format using sleeve pages? Seems like that might help ease of access and sharing them between players. I thought about that, but they are 2 sided and you may have to put tokens on them. That would make turning the page a pain. You could write on the pockets with a wet or dry erase though I suppose. -

Jericho said: Are all cards realistic regarding their recharge values ? I mean are all recharge values well designed ? In your opinion of course. Most of the cards have a 0, 2, or 3 recharge rating. There are no '1' recharges. The reason is that you take the first token off a recharging card the same turn you use it, so a '1' would be basically no recharge. A recharge of 2 means you will skip a turn using the card while it's recharging (-1 token the turn you use it, -1 token the next turn, the 2nd turn it's ready to use). Most cards that have a recharge (at all) are 2 or 3. That means you can't use the card for 1 or 2 turns. Some have HUGE recharges, like 10. But, they provide ways for you to remove them. There's one spell for the Gray Wizard that adds 10 and I think you can spend a manoeuvre to remove most or all of them. Then there's the fortune points. If you play a card with a 2 recharge, you remove 1 at the end of your turn. You can spend a fortune point to remove the other, and it's ready next turn. So, if you want to do something faster, a little luck and a little effort goes a long way. Wow... that sounds like most things in life. The recharge system works great. I think most people that are complaining about it haven't seen it in action yet. They are knee-jerking. Look at it like this. GMs can now allow their players to have very powerful spells and moves without worrying that they will toss all their other cards away and just spam that one attack. That would be boring. When you are on your 4th career, Magic Dart will still be useful. Not earth shattering, but not useless. -

This card box works great! Now that I've said that, I sleeved all my cards. Since I've done that, the big cards only fit at a slight angle (which is not a problem for me). They also take up so much room once sleeved, I had to transfer them to a second box. So now I have 1 box with all the cards (and plenty of room for more) and one box with everything else in it. -
Necrozius said: Sweet. This sounds great. How was the choice of gear available? Were you all pleased with what was there in the book? Check this out. There's barely any at all, and it's OK. LOL Instead of having massive equipment lists, they divided it into categories. So, instead of having a tent, bedroll, stakes, climbing gear, cold weather gear, etc. They had a single category called 'survival gear' and had different prices listed by availability. For example, abundantly available items, such as blankets and rope, are all 3b. Commonly available items, like a bed roll or a tinderbox are all 1s. So, instead of having gigantic 100 page listings of gear, you just categorize what you're looking for and look up the price. I thought it was pretty smooth.

We tried character creation for the first time tonight - our first non-Demo game. The way I'm reading the 'typical trappings' on the career card is, that's what they would 'probably have', not 'what they get to start with'. They start with the gear listed by their 'Wealth' selection, then buy any 'typical trappings' as they desire and can afford. Does that sound right? The game went great, each game better than the last as we get more play experience. There's a write up on it (my final write up), in my Emperor's Decree, *Nashville* post.

As I’ve said, you really can’t judge a game until you play it a few times. The initial reviews were great, but the later ones are the most important. This will be my last game report pertaining to the new system. Tonight we played (my) forth game. No surprise, we all had a blast and the system runs like clockwork. Tonight we actually tried the character creation for the first time. This was our first game that wasn’t Demo related. I photocopied off the build point page, and a few equipment pages for my players to share around as they built their characters. Since we still have only the one book, I had to read off a lot of skill descriptions and specializations. Other than that, the photocopies did all the work. The books are still in great shape, even after heavy use and bending them back for copies. The character creation process is almost as fun as playing. That’s good too, because my players are likely to be doing it now and again… Everything went smooth, people thumbing through action and talent cards, picking equipment, drinking Rogue Beer. We took our time, optimized the characters, and looked at all the options. The entire process, for a GM and 4 players (one a caster), took about an hour and a half. You could easily get this down to a half hour. After character design, we had about 2 hours left to play. This was an ‘investigation’ scenario, so there was no combat (well, almost). After some great roleplay pertaining to the selection of the ‘party sheet’, and party introductions, we started the game proper. Our spell caster flexed his muscle a bit trying out the flexible ‘cantrip’ spell as we familiarized ourselves with the casting rules. There were some interesting spell effects. At one point an over achieving intimidate check (assisted by 3 other players) ended up frightening a poor barkeep and his entire customer base (3 drunks and a cat), clearing the entire bar! Which… my players promptly robbed, then fled the scene. Sigh. There were some very interesting social interactions as my players investigated their mystery. We relied heavily on interpreting dice results and they led us in some very surprising directions. We decide to run with the results and the rolls actually shaped the game is some very cool ways. I found some interesting uses for the ‘tracker’ and built a couple of different tracks, one to represent the player’s progress, and one ‘unknown’ tracker that caused a little tension at the table (I’m being vague because some of my players read these). Observations: After the game there was a lot of talk about the ambiguity of the rules. Ambiguity sounds negative, but that wasn’t the course of the conversation. The statement was that in other systems, say D&D (any version), if there was an ambiguous rule, the game stopped. You pour through the books until you find the rule. It’s there. You know it is. You just have to find it. In this version, the rules are built around ambiguity. It’s actually presented as a ‘feature’, or a tool. Intentionally ambiguous rules are there to allow the GM (and players) the flexibility to adjudicate as the situation requires. This means that more situations can be covered with fewer rules. It works very nicely. It’s very hard to explain. You almost have to see it for yourself to understand. It’s certainly a different way to think about things. It will take some time to get used to that amount of freedom. The evening wrapped up with us all sitting on the front porch, smoking and drinking, and buzzing about all the possibilities. My group still loves this system. So do I. We look forward to many more adventures in the Old World using the solid new ruleset. P.S. On a side note, I was sad to see the last official Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay 2 forums scheduled to go dark. Though I have been a staunch supporter of WFRPv3, I’ve had decades of fantastic games using v1 and v2. That system, with its percentile and bloody splattery crit charts, with its phenomenal career charts and tight skill and talents list, with its amazing history and detailed world, will always have a place in my Roleplaying conscience. The artwork of John Blanche, Ian Miller, and all the other iconic artist of the Old World, the art that drew me into this game to start with, will always cause a feeling of nostalgia. I plan on writing scenarios that capture those old feelings. Those feelings I first had when I stumbled across the green cover with the bad ass dwarf chopping into a goblin, or my first look at Middenheim on the Warhammer City cover in Ian Miller’s distinctive style. Wish me luck. That’s a tall order to fill. R.I.P. WFRP2. Warhammer is dead. Long live Warhammer.

mac40k said: Okay quick correction. Your summary erroneously refers to monster actions as skills and says cool tokens are removed from every skill for every monsters turn. Per the NPC/Monster summary that was included in one of the previews it says that when an action is recharging, no one else can use it and that recharge tokens are not removed at the end of every monster's turn, rather you remove one recharge token from each action at the end of every round. Doh! I totally misread that - thank you. I'll update that on the next change. I'm also working on a 'caster' summary sheet for my players. I'll post that when it's done.

Looking for artist to illustrate scenario

So... how many packs of sleeves do I need?
NezziR replied to CaffeineBoy's topic in Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay
Sizes confirmed. I just got my sleeves. The cards fit perfectly. They are high quality mylar, thin but stiff. They have strong micro sealed seams. They make the cards a bit slippery, but that's the price you pay -
I'm looking for 3 or 4 simple pencil sketches of a couple of scenes for the new scenario I'm making. It's an introductory scenario that I'm writing. Once it's done, I'll likely hold it till a scenario contest pops up (that shouldn't be long). This is just 3 or 4 small panels to add some visuals in the scenario, nothing elaborate (unless you want). It will be mostly landscape type things. If you're interested, contact me via PM and we'll hook up. You'll get full credit in the scenario credits. Excerpt from Foundation for Vengeance “The nor-wind comes with the dawn and is early this year. It brings with it the promise of chill to overcome the muggy fall heat. The nights are cooling. The harvest celebrations bring villagers wrapped in thick wool shawls and heavy cotton shirts, but the days are still hot and bright and heavy with the moisture of the sea. You awaken at the cock’s crow, the sun still a promise in the sky. The smell of breakfast wafts through the room, laden with the scent of the hearth. In the other room you can hear utensils clinking and pots clunking as the breaking of the nights fast is prepared. You drift back into a peaceful sleep and when you awaken again there are already squeals of children playing on the heather dunes, drifting though your windows like the tinkling of chimes.” Our story begins in the pastoral village of Brunhoffer on northern outskirts of the Nordland, by the Sea of Claws. It is a small fishing community and so insignificant as to escape the notice of all but the most astute Imperial Cartographers. There has been tragedy here in the past, as in any small Empire village, these things are quickly forgotten during times of bounty and peace. Life on the coast of the Sea of Claws can be harsh, but no so these days. There have been no Northman raids in years and the forests have been quite. Rumors of war seep in from other parts of the Empire, but remote the village of Brunhoffer is self sufficient and rarely pays heed to such rumblings. It’s easy to forget how dangerous the world is and be lulled into false security. Their agrestic lives are about to be disrupted.

...and it's very much like that. Less load on the GM. My 'trips to the books' to look up rules are much more infrequent. In our last game, I think we had to stop once to look something up - we wanted a closer look at the first-aid and healing rules.

Sex, love & romance; how do you handle it?
NezziR replied to Morffe's topic in Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay
I rarely address such things in my game. The players are usually too busy fighting for their lives or trying to figure out the latest challenge to worry about sex. Romance and such are usually reserved for NPC interactions as the story demands. -
I'm not interested in credit, just the tool. A font would be an amazing tool for writers! I'm working on a scenario now called 'Foundation for Vengeance'. Importing all the little pictures (that I don't have permission to use yet) are a pain in the rear. Having that font would be very helpful. Edit: Anyone skilled enough to make us a nice 'free to the community' background for scenarios and other tools? Someone made a nice parchment with a line at the top and bottom with the skull crux in the center. I don't know what the status is of it though. It came in a fillable PDF. Here's the PDF I'm talking about: javascript:void(0);/*1259020136340*/ it's perfect, but I can't remember where I got it and it doesn't look very 'free to use'. If someone could make something similar to this it would be awesome! Unfortunately, my skills do not lie in those areas.

Necrozius said: If someone has font creation software, I'd be willing to create vectors for all the relevant dice symbols. I'm looking for one in the meantime. EDIT UPDATE: I've got a Font Creator application. Do you think that I have permission to create a dice symbol based font? A skull is a skull is a skull. I don't think there would be an issue with it if you made your own. If you borrowed graphics that were already created, you would have to ask permission (like I have - I'm still awaiting an answer). I'd ask anyway, but I'm guessing making your own wouldn't be an issue. Edit: I would REALLY love to have this font... That, zipped into a package with the symbol JPGs I've made would be just about all a writer needs to make scenarios. I'd also like to see a pro background, parchment or something, that looks good with Warhammer material and is royalty free.
