Vorpal, I just meant to describe the role I envisioned for the ship: damage or spoiling or flanking as the need arises.

I want to run 4-lom as an opportunist supporting a torp scout pair (or maybe scout and some other). I plan on using both the primary and t-beam depending on the situation. Do folks prefer VI or PTL? I can see a strong case for both.

Scoutwing Ordnancewing Torpwing !!! When a list I like does well, that's called playing X Wing the normal, reasonable way. When a list I don't really like does well, then it's [blank]wing. Down with wing! Long live wing!

In theory green dice should be lucky that day.

*sigh* Should I mention that the actual purpose of the M249 is to nobly defend freedom and the American way of life? Or that the original model was designed by Belgians, who unlike Americans are allowed to do normal things without being hated? Or that your chosen hobby involves fantasizing about violence (since it's a space combat game where your objective is to kill your opponent's ships and set in a universe called Star Wars which is extremely violent?) Thanks for letting me know that all your opinions are worthless, though. Helps on the signal:noise thing.

I hope I don't upset anyone by asking about this, but are Necrons any good in 40K anymore? I played the game a long time ago and had a cool force painted up, but then I went back to school, people changed, etc. (50 Necron warriors, 6 Destroyers, 10 Scarab Swarms and a Necron Lord). It was fun back then and the models turned out really nice. I didn't buy any big things like the monolith though.

I can think of a reason why a guy might not let you check perfectly legitimate dice: if he's insulted. So I wouldn't suggest to this guy that you think he's a cheater. If you want to test his dice, say that you're concerned that they were not manufactured properly.

If you want to play a highly competitive list, you can play either a TIE swarm (7-8 TIE Fighters) or BBBBZ (4 B-Wings and a Z-95). Those are pretty cheap to put together, relatively speaking. Some "top tier" lists are really expensive because they use 1 card each from a bunch of different expansions, or rely on lots of copies of a card that only comes as a singleton (I'm looking at you, Crackshot!). If you compare a "top tier" list to a "sub par" list, my guesstimate is that you will find a real difference of only about 5 squadron points worth of upgrades, either in terms of efficiency or real expected play value. In other words, if Sam Stick Jock and Katy Casual sit down to play, and Sam's list requires an investment of at least $350 and Katy has spent less than $100 on the game, the competitive difference between their lists probably amounts to one good or bad die roll either way. So that's it: the "top tier" player probably has the equivalent of one good die roll on you. The rest of it can be made up for with all the blood, sweat and tears that compose the true essence of this challenging game.

Wouldn't Deadeye be better on Nera?

I planned to only buy a limited amount, but ended up buying practically everything. Not because I needed it, but because I wanted it. Are you trying to start a family collection, so you and your wife (if you have one) can play? Or is it just you? I noticed you only mentioned Rebel ships. That could hold down the costs somewhat. You could do 1 of each Core Set (red original and blue TFA), Rebel Aces, and standalone packs for the X Wing, T-70 X Wing, A Wing and B Wing. That would be a ton of stuff to mess with (2 Xs, 2 T70 Xs, 2 As and 2 Bs). Then expand to taste. The good thing is that almost everything is good. There are some ships that are *slightly* ahead or behind the curve, but the most important thing is being able to fly it well.

Light Side for life, dawg! But I have to give it to Vader. Going off of current canon, Wedge is a good pilot who manages to not get shot down/crash in several big battles. Vader is an absolute terror (as in Clone Wars / Rebels).

I'm still pretty new to this game, but it seems like when a ship is over-costed or has some other 'problem', the difference is really only one good die roll away from being negated. I grant that any edge is still, by definition, an edge, but compared to other minis games I have played the difference between a 'good' ship and a 'bad' ship is surprisingly minimal. I think that skill, luck and build (and of course whether you actually brought your A game that day) all have a role to play in the outcome, but it seems like skill is most important factor.

more importantly, "you aren't wasting your time if you are at all interested in winning" some people aren't, some people are "Not playing to win is like sleeping with your sister. Sure she's a great piece of tail, with a blouse full of goodies, but... it's just illegal." Wow. That escalated quickly... We need a "politically correct redneck" meme here xD Calling funplay "sleeping with one's sister" is a new approach to it Seriously though his sister is amazing.

I dunno. He's more expensive than Wedge or Luke and he's only PS7! Seems like quite an investment for a character with no offensive or defensive special power.
-
It's still vastly cheaper than golf! When you consider that it's about $350 for clubs, $100 per 1-hour lesson (of which you'll need a bunch) and $100-$500 in green fees per game on a nice course, your wife should be very happy that you chose X-Wing instead. It's a cheap hobby.

I disagree. I started in mid/late September (2015) and I am having no trouble. My lists and play are already very strong and steadily improving. Like any hobby, what you get out of it is proportional to what you put into it. I've done all the necessary reading, participated in "maneuver school" with my buddies, done practice battles with my wife, etc. My win/loss ratio is well into the black and I'm totally enjoying myself. My collection is missing a few key ships/cards, but the buildup is part of the fun too. I think I picked an exceptionally good time to get into the game. Virtually every ship (well, not the Scyk) can be useful! And nothing is truly OP. I even smacked down a 4 TLT list yesterday (it appeared twice during our big New Year's gameathon; it got busted both times: once by Fett and random pals, once by a TIE swarm). And that's the only list I've seen so far that even seems impolite. So I would say that the game is very beginner-friendly right now, based on my experience.

Compañeros, there is a need for a new alternate-art rebel pilot card. Oscar Isaac ably portrayed our beloved Poe Dameron in TFA. But that is not his first Rebel character! He also played "El Catorce" Ramirez, the greatest warrior of the Cristero rebellion. The Cristeros were Rebels who fought for the Light against a cruel dictatorship. "El Catorce" was so called because he was ambushed by 14 assassins that the Mexican government had sent against him, and he slew them all single-handedly. Poe could easily shoot down 14 TIE fighters. We need a card! Poe as seen in "For Greater Glory".
-
Nope. To be fair, that's not a space ship. That's an atmospheric craft like a snowspeeder.
-
I think a Title card to make the TIE/fo into a TIE/sf would be cool. It should add a Turret slot but with a point cap on what can be equipped. Maybe also add a Missile slot. The Impies could use a turret anyway. It makes no sense for them not to have one. "We hate effective weapon systems!"

My dish arrived actually broken.

Raider and a Gozanti. Woohoo! Although my Gozanti had a broken sensor dish.

If Asmodee Shuts Down Online Sales, Will You Still Buy?
Requete replied to Firespray-32's topic in X-Wing
The vast majority of my X-Wing stuff is purchased locally. I would not be affected by the decision. If they "shut down" online sales I do think that would be a horrible idea. Many people depend on that retail conduit. However, if they decide to limit the amount of discounting allowed... I can see many reasons why that could be a good idea. I can see the other side, too. -
I just got into this game in September. It's amazing! Many thanks to FFG. And also to my very patient wife.
-
I want Soontir Fel in a T-65 X-Wing. He and BB-8 would get along great!
-
I don't merely hate the prequels, I loathe them. Releasing prequel ships would put me in a terrible position: do I buy a ship just for the cards and then smash it with a hammer, or just never get those cards? X-Wing would cease to be fun.
