  1. It sold out via pre-orders before ever hitting shelves. At this very moment, Amazon's product page shows that it is being sold by a third party who has an estimated restock date of June 30, 2021, but that kind of estimated restock date on Amazon changes all the time. It's probably just a "We have no idea" placeholder date because I got an email a couple of days ago from the online retailer where I pre-ordered my copy. The email said:

"We have been updated by Asmodee that they will only be able to fulfill a small amount of orders on the 11/27 release date due to production issues. As a result, your Twilight Imperium Expansion will not be shipping out this week. They have assured us that we will receive the Expansions within the next 60 days..."

Would anyone know why this particular pack is so hard to find...

Allies of Necessity was the force pack that had the two alternate affiliation cards for all six factions.

Here are all of the cards from that force pack:

Is there anything to back that up? I have a couple of guys that are insisting “predict an outcome” includes things like “player A will not be elected”.

They’re talking about predicting what doesn’t happen rather than what does happen, but that can’t be a predicted outcome in terms of TI4 game rules because it doesn’t receive any votes.

8.22  Some game effects instruct a player to predict an outcome. To predict an outcome, a player declares aloud the outcome he thinks will receive the most votes. He must make this prediction after the agenda is revealed but before any votes have been cast.

Ok, I thought that editions are only cosmetically different not a total redesign.

Often times a new edition of a board game has mostly cosmetic differences, usually because a different company is now producing it. But in the case of TI4, they started from the ground up and used most of the best stuff from TI3 but removed or streamlined everything else. For instance, pretty much everyone agrees that researching new technology is WAAAYYYYY better in TI4.

    Check out this comparison video...

I also have some deck holders from E-raptor: https://www.e-raptor.pl/board_game_card_holder_5S_solid to hold all the agenda action and objective cards (will fit sleeved cards)

I got the pictured card holders from The Broken Token from their Gen Con 2018 booth, and I use them for various games. I just recently bought a couple of their new 4-tray stacking mini card holders, which I still need to finish and assemble.

I also have various dice trays as well as this dice tower.

  6. What kind of awesome accessories, swag, and/or merch do you have for TI4? Here's what I have so far:

    • Official TI4 game mat (I love having that little bit of space between the system tiles; don't listen to the naysayers)
    • Black plastic poster tube w/ shoulder strap for game mat storage and transport
    • FFG card sleeves
    • Stackable, clear acrylic fleet stands from The Broken Token (just got them in the mail; excited to try them asap)
    • 8x d10's for each player color (opaque black and yellow; translucent red, green, blue, and purple; planning to get translucent orange soon; haven't yet found translucent pink that are the right color)
    • Various sizes of Plano organizers for cards, units/dice for all player colors, and game tokens (very handy for setup, easy access, and cleanup)

Everything that I have for TI4 (except the mat and tube) currently fits in the base game box (removed the vacuform tray, of course), but there's no way that the expansion is also going to fit in the base game box. I might consider getting an organizer from The Broken Token if they ever make a "crate" that supports the expansion as well. Their current organizer left room for two more player colors, but clearly they didn't expect so much content in an expansion.

I'd love to see a wide array of apparel, but that's probably a licensing thing. I've seen a couple of t-shirts, but they're kind of....meh. And I'm also not a fan of the 3D-printed or acrylic tokens that I've seen so far on Etsy; they just look really generic and bland.

How about you? What kind of TI4 stuff do you have or would love to have? Feel free to dream, too!

Wrong “round”. I was referring to when regular repair happens, at the end of the game round, during the status phase.

Fleet attacks, gets enough hits to destroy all defenders. Defenders get one hit back. Put hit on Dreadnought. Can’t use Duranium armor now because Dread used sustain damage this turn. Combat ends because no defenders left. Does the Dread really have to wait till the Status Phase at the end of the round to repair, making Duranium Armor useless in that situation (very useful in other situations, but not now)?

In that case, yes, if a Dreadnought used its Sustain Damage ability in the last round of a space combat, then the Dreadnought will have to wait until the Status Phase to repair unless some other ability repairs it before then, such as that same Dreadnought being in another space combat that same game round, wherein you could use Duranium Armor to repair the Dreadnought in the first round of combat because it was already damaged in the previous space combat (assuming that it doesn't get destroyed, of course).

    Related question.

If the combat ends before the ship has a chance to repair, does it then have to wait until the end of the round anyway? So if the combat had gone on longer the ship would be less damaged?

    Duranium Armor:

During each combat round, after you assign hits to your units, repair 1 of your damaged units that did not use Sustain Damage during this combat round.

    Rules Reference v1.1 (old):

67.9 Space combat ends immediately when only one player—or neither player—has a ship in the active system.

         • “End of combat” and “end of combat round” effects still occur.

    Rules Reference v1.3 (current):

67.9 Space combat ends when only one player—or neither player— has a ship in the space area of the active system.

         • During the last round of a combat, “end of combat” and “end of combat round” effects occur during the same timing window.

First all, Duranium Armor does not trigger "at the end of the round"; it triggers "after you assign hits to your units." And assigning hits to units happens simultaneously for both players.

Second, notice that v1.3 of the rules reference does not have the word "immediately" like v1.1 does. I interpret that to mean that effects such as Duranium Armor will still trigger during the last round of combat even if you defeat your opponent before you would have assigned hits to your units. However, I'm trying to think of a scenario where you could defeat your opponent before having an opportunity to use Duranium Armor that round. Could you provide more details for this hypothetical scenario?

  9. Duranium Armor only applies to units that are participating in that combat round.

Take the wording of Magen Defense Grid for example....

"At the start of ground combat on a planet that contains 1 or more of your structures, you may produce 1 hit and assign it to 1 of your opponent's ground forces."

Magen Defense Grid does not explicitly state where that ground force needs to be, right? So what prevents Magen Defense Grid from assigning a hit to an opponent's ground forces on a completely different planet? The game effect would have been followed to the letter, right?

Game effects like this only apply to units involved in that particular round of combat.

  10. I would recommend the 10-point track if you need to fit the game into a single session or if one or more players has not played TI before. However, if your group is experienced and has no qualms about playing the game for as long as it takes, or if your group is available for two or more sessions with the game left set up between sessions, then I would recommend a 14-point game.

In either case, I would never recommend a 14-point game (or an 8-player game) if at least one person is playing TI for the first time.

(Me: "Some day I'll finally be able to play an 8-player 14-point game...........[sigh]..........Some day.")

  11. I would be happy to see future codexes released as physical products (mini expansions) instead of digitally because that allows players to help financially support the ongoing development process.

And I could see this being a new type of business model for FFG's heavier board games, the games where it would normally take at least a couple of years before they release a new expansion, if at all.

    There are so many possibilities!
