  1. I wouldn't run away just yet.

The original boxed game still has loads of play and replayability as compared with any other boxed game.

Some expansions are still in the shops -though not all.

And as I indicated in my previous diatribe, I do believe FF do have a forward view/plan which probably includes races.

Dragons and Creatures will give 8 more scenarios-but as yet we don't know if they will use figures from expansions.

Heroes does unfortunately use 100 years which is now nigh on impossible to get, but will provide a super way of playing all the published scenarios to date from a new perspective, i.e heroes. Just look at battle.com (Universal head) for the scenarios from base set .

And looking through geek you will see ideas and articles from people who know loads of stuff on the game.

Still good to get methinks   David

  2. In reply to kilvert- I too am concerned about a lack of supply damaging the game's potential and product placement profile for new players.

After all, we need converts and newbies to do their bit in keeping the game alive. I have emailed my concerns to Esdevium games about this and FF.

In fact, as my recent Geek post will testify, I believe I may have the last mint  English copy of 100 Years War- after managing to get one yesterday from a retailer (in their stock room -poor thing - hiding)  and after being told repeatedly 'no stock.'

Yet comments I received from many other retailers, such as 'we'll phone our suppliers and order more,' or 'it will probably be reprinted'  displayed not only general retailer ignorance re availability, but more worringly,  their lack of product knowledge -I presume, normally received from Esdevium and FF.

So Esdevium have none- a trawl of British and Amercian web retailers proves they are out, and FF indicate on their web pages that no reprinting at the moment.

Which leaves us, newbies, and the product's direction where exactly?

Add to this some odd marketing decisions which perhaps are the result of considered planning, but which are not explained properly.

    a) Include two original promo figures most old players possess.    b) Why allow someone /agency to  suddenly flood the market with these promos if you desire good Creature sales-which FF and we need for Battlelore's durability. Some retailers in UK and 12spiel, for example, are offering a free promo with existing expansions they still stock.  Odd!   Where have the Hill Giants suddenly come from?

    c) Include in the Heroes expansion scenarios which need the 100 Years War expansion-hence I my desire to get it- when nobody can now get 100 Years, and new players buy a new expansion which in part they cannot fully utilise.  Odd!

I am sure that behind the scenes there have been many excellent decisions made by FF management pertaining to the above situations, which I, like most of us, are not party to, nor have a right to be so. Economic variabilities, and FF probably having defined a particular style for the future, may be factors of these odd marketing occurences (ditch History -yet Heroes includes some history- and focus on Fantasy) as well possibly fullfilling any contractual obligations with DOW. Who knows. And that I think is the slight problem. FF don't say or hint the long term future. Dragons/creatures and heroes are are short term obligations/solutions to what DOW had promised moons ago.

So there perhaps is the conjectured truth. Once these three are out of the way and DOW stock has been relinquished/sold FF can start again-we can start again and refocus, and a new huge launch can hook in the new converts. Cos by gum it needs it. Gencon was all about other games-look at the high profile these brand, 'spanking new' games and their expansions got-all the razzle dazzle they received- and Battlolore was consigned to a few seconds in a video clip presentation of new productions, and dependant upon the photos from a fan. The last seven words  worry me. The community learnt about Dragons/Creatures from a fan- not as the result of engineered publicity from FF. Oh dear!

Gosh this was supposed to be short. Sorry if it became a moan. So in  summary,  I worry about the game and I hope my observations are not indications of a decline, and general FF marketing mistakes.  Instead, based on R. Borg's press comments and evident hopefulness, I hope/am sure that FF has, unbeknowns to us, got an exact, clear, forward thinking policy (they must have) and will generate a super new relaunch based, I presume, on a new Fantasy direction to gain new players.

  3. Here in Uk 100 Years War almost impossible to find.

    Typical-when you want summat-you can't have it!

Anyway, I could order the set from Germany, say 12spiel, etc and get the scenarios printed from Universal Head's Battleocom site.

But can anyone tell me what else is in the rules/booklet from the expansion?

Are there certain rules and info on movement/battle for the figures specific to the pack?

How can I get English of the cards?

Any ideas-anyone.  Have sent email to FF asking if they are reprinting-await their answer

    Ta  David

  4. No-unfortunately no troll.

But it seems to me that the French site is uploading details about Battlelore quicker than the American site.

Perhaps this is the place to watch in future for early news.

I presume these new boxes will include scenarios or will it be rules on how to use dragons in existing scenarios.

  5. Hello all.

Looking at some recent comments from R. Borg in this forums, answering hero queries, and one poster gave him the French version Of Fantasy Flight forums as he was asking for the their community's input/info, etc.

Lo and behold, there was the picture of the Dragon box and the inventory and some official blurb, mainly about the Ice Dragon swooping low, and the slow death wreaked by the poisonous gasses of the Forest Dragon.

Is this a super efficient French poster, blowing up the original pic from Gencon, or a released bit of info from FF on their French forum?

Does anyone know if the troll will be included in the creature box. If not perhaps we should start a campaign. The distribution of the Troll Map was  never wide, and many did not buy it. If included great-does anyone know?

    Thanks David

  7. kookoobah said that "perhaps we are getting 2 each of Cleric, Rogue, Warrior, Wizard Commander, mounted and unmounted."

Or perhaps 2 each of these heroes, one for each player.

But these were originally described as Lore Masters. So I wonder what happened to the Hero-esque characters such as say, Joan of Arc or perhaps Edward I or Robin Hood that have been alluded to in the past but perhaps never fully confirmed by DOW or FF.

On the unofficial Battlelore Master website, the writer/Raven questions whether the figures, of which he has a copy,  will be the same as those to be published in Autumn.  Although too early too judge (and it is always dangerous to play the guessing game) I sense disparity between historical character Heroes and Lore Masters being used/labelled as Heroes.  Perhaps the remaining five are historical. That would be nice. Or we're going to get heroes expansions.

Obviously with all those 110 cards the game and mechanics will nicely expand and open up. Something is better than nothing. But I just worry about losing those little 'ol characters from history.

  8. He fought all day. He fought all night.

Such were the tales of his great Might!

    Sir Tragghorn swept all aside

From the glens of Loch Kilgar to the fens of Falamide.

With swift steed and muscled arm

He'd enter battles and ne'er come to harm.

Yet all that he won and surveyed

Were nothing as compared to his beautiful maid,

A gentle lass of  golden hair and summer hue

Whose heart had been pierced by the Cupid's love completely through.

He dreamed of returning from his many Crusades

To commune with his beauty to the end of his days.

But alas, chaos is born on the cruel winds of  battle

And his damsel was run over by dwarves on cattle.

A goblin on an ostrich completed her flattening

Making her figure less than flattering.

Both races would rue that day

When Tragghorn's bride got in the way

Of a dispute between dwarf and goblin

That sent the noble knight a sobbin'.

To appease his bride's death he sought retribution,

Hunting down the culprits his sole motivation.

Thousands died as he hacked his way through wood and glen.

Blood flowed in castle and in den.

Alas poor Tragghorn died in vain

As the murderers of his true sweetheart

Had thought best the Uchronia shores to depart.

Such was their guilt and fear they disappeared by chance

Lest the noble knight skewered them on his lance.

So gentle reader as you peruse these ancient pages

Filled with woe and romantic rages.

Remember never to get caught between ostrich and bull

For such makes a heroic, proud knight feeling very dull.

A 'Tongue In Cheek' Tale of Uchronian History    David

  9. I presume you meant something like this...........

Uchronia, a land of legend and long lost tales as heroes strode the land providing their services to any race that needed help in their battles and disputes with other creatures. Torks and elves, dwarfs and goblins, creatures of the night and swamp, of moor and mountain populated the majestic landscapes that beguiled the eye and inspired the songs of troubadoors and the Sorcerers of Magecraft.

Long ago, harmony prevailed with One Council ruling all nations and races. The Council would meet every full Moon to debate laws, to plan the best ways to feed the population and to settle disputes from turning to bloody wars. Tales of  Greythorn the Wise Counsellor who presided over the representatives from the myriad lands, are legendary and his prowess at word duelling and negotion are writ large in the Jaygrad Annals, now kept in the Great Library of Mythene.  Within the hallowed halls of the the great repositary of books and records of Ucronia are stories of every type; the sad tale of  Hadmar the Heroic who lost his true love when defeating the Dragon of the Deserted Dunes, of Gwendoline the Great who led a thousand dwarves to safety from the volcanic eruptions of the Great Chain of Fire by the Besotted Sea, of Grekk the tiny goblin who tunnelled for 20 days and nights to safety from the Undead Dungeons to warn his people of a tremendous Skeletal Army ready to attack.

Yet tales of division and strife go side by side with tales of the common folk, accounts of powerful enchantment are as many as the stories of  village life.

One day the Jaygrad Annals will be opened and no doubt we can read again about the rich and varied characters who shaped the present day Uchronia.

  10. Hello

I live Bramhall and would like to get more chances to play the game- though if you have been playing as regularly as your post implies, then I would be a mere amateur compared to your game knowledge and experience!
