  1. Hit one - evade the next.... Next turn, take out the second.....
  2. In a nice role reversal, my perfectly mortal canine devoured a realm of the ancient ones. (Dreamlands with a lozenge.) Actually, she just chewed the token up pretty well - it's still usable, but you notice what it is before dealing it. She really ate a half of a green otherworld encounter where the event left on the card is for "Other: You come across a sleeping horror with a tentacle draped across a small gold idol. Silence is of the essence as you attempot to gently ease the idol out from under the creature's psuedopod. Make a sneak (-1) check. If you pass gain $3. If you fail, lose 2 stamina." Question is, is there some way to replace specific components of the game? Does anyone have a suggestion? Thanks!
  3. Hey! Have fun at try number 2! Sounds like you had a good game going.... up until the end...
  4. We played it that the ally only reduces his buddy's sanity loss - your less powerful option. That's the way allies tend to work, I think. And it only reduces sanity "loss" from monsters and stuff, not sanity "spent" in spells.
  5. Has there been any word on whether or not Elder Signs can be used to remove Doom Tokens from the track?
  6. This may be why we have not reported our score yet. We're thinking of giving a 2 character game a whirl, or even replaying to maximize score this weekend with 4 characters. We also had a rumor that required us to spend a couple of gate trophies... I think the doom track kind of limits the score somewhat. If there are fewer ways to keep that doom track from creeping higher, there is less time to waste monster hunting and trying to pump up the points. On the positive side, because we were racing the doom track on this one, we never exceeded our monster limit and the terror track never increased. It was a really different game for us. On Thursday, we ended with one of our higher scores, but were in the dead set middle of the first league, so I don't know how competitive we truly are. We generally win by sealing gates, not killing the AO. Eh. I play because it's fun. It was nice to come in in the middle last league, because we did NOT play to maximize score - we just wanted to get through the scenarios. For some reason, the game mechanics are just complex enough and the game writers are entertaining enough that I am intrigued by the game every time we play. It's fun to play these new scenarios.
  7. Hey, it's a fun game without the roleplaying. The writers are clever, and the encounters are fun. Seriously, learn to play the rules as written before starting with "House Rules." Beating the game is challenging - and working with your SO to do so is fun. If, after playing a couple of times, you'd rather play "The Game of Life" (tm Hasbro) with the board, there are a few house rulse out there that allow more exploration. I really think that kind of defeats the game intent, though.
  8. Surprisingly, this was one of our quicker games. We finished in just under 2 hours with our 4 characters. I don't know if that's because without the ability to seal a gate, the doom track fills really rapidly, or if we were just really lucky in our draws and clever in our strategy. I really liked this one. Last league was good, too, but this seemed so rapid paced fresh - I wonder if I really just got tired of my characters by scenario 10 last time.....
  9. I found the ally really helpful - by pairing him with Harvey Walters, you make the wimpy professor a pretty good monster killer if you can get a good weapon into his hands.... We just played & he also drew "Enchant Weapon" as one of his spells. It was a great combination - he did not have to worry about sanity loss from horror checks because of his and the ally's special abilities - we got a tommy gun into his hands and with the enchant weapon, he didn;t have to worry about physical immunity. Also, I think the new ally cannot be sacrificed.
