efiend reacted to Hutton1670 in New Player Starter Deck Advice Request
No...Booored actually has a ton of good information. His anti-social behavior doesn't phase me one bit. If he was talking out his ass AND being a jerk...that's one thing....But He genuinely knows his card games, and thus I pay attention to his critique....
Oh...and his dickishness just cracks me up.

efiend reacted to ktom in Blackmane's Hunt
Oh yeah, looking at old threads on this will become confusing because this card was part of a much larger discussion. Let me try to focus some of this for you:
Card -
Blackmane's Hunt:
"Reaction: After your warlord commits to a planet, commit your warlord to an adjacent planet."
WHEN it works: The event is used after your warlord (Blackmane) commits to a planet. 99 times out of 100, this is going to be in the Command Phase - right after all the units (including the warlord) go from HQ to the planet set on the dial, but before any of the command struggles are resolved.
HOW it works: Simply play the event when you would normally trigger a reaction to committing your warlord to a planet, pick up your warlord, and move him over one planet (in either direction). This will be after you move everything from the HQ to the planet, but before any command struggles are resolved, so the "(virtually) auto command win" for the warlord's presence will be at the new planet, not the one you originally sent him to. It is also important to note that the event only moves Blackmane, not all the other units that came with him from the HQ to the planet set on the dial. Those units stay (exhausted) where the dial sent them. Only Blackmane moves. (NOTE: You can trigger this before or after other reactions to the warlord committing, like the Sentinels, giving you more flexibility with some of Blackmane's support tricks, too.)
WHY it works: Mechanically, it works (and moves only the warlord) because it is a reaction to the warlord committing the first time, meaning that that first commitment is over, done, and complete before the event is played - and the warlord is "committed" to the new planet from the old one, not from the HQ. Strategically, it works because, as I'm sure you know, Blackmane's strength (and basic strategy) is to get to the same planet as the enemy warlord and hit that warlord hard, fast and often. Of course, this is hard to do if, in the Command Phase, you "miss" and commit Blackmane to a different planet from the enemy warlord. Blackmane's Hunt allows you something of a "do over" in the Command Phase so that you can, once you see where your opponent committed his warlord, chase your enemy's warlord down (if you were close enough when setting your own dial). The event essentially says that since you want Blackmane at the same planet as your opponent's warlord, if you miss your guess on where your opponent's warlord is going by one, you can catch him. There is also a side benefit here in that if, for example, you want all the units in your HQ at Planet 1, but your warlord at Planet 2 this round, you can send everything in the HQ to Planet 1, then move just your warlord to Planet 2 (effectively allowing you stop stack your units at Planet 1).

efiend reacted to CommissarFeesh in Ragnar Blackmane and
Nope. Doesn't matter if the condition WAS true. Only matters if the condition IS true when you come to activate the ability. Threw me for a loop as well because I'm used to Netrunner timing rules, but this is how Conquest works.
You can even, for example, use Syren Zythlex to exhaust Sicarius' Chosen after the Chosen drags her from her own planet. He was committed to another planet entirely, but by the time you can use her reaction, her reference of 'this planet' has changed.

IN a Mech LCG game, I like to see BattleTech, not Robotech....

efiend reacted to Tekwych in With the live action movie announced - ROBOTECH for LCG format!
I wouldn't wish dealing with Harmony Gold on my worst enemies. Robotic is a license that has killed bigger companies than FFG. If you want to offer this level than look to Heavy Gear, Battletech, or any of the newer anime met shows. If you insist on the Robotech Mecha then fall back to Macross and stay away from Harmony Gold

If I may make a suggestionI'd switch out proton bombs for something else.
Proximity mines be my recommendation
You'll have a hard time to hit with proton bombs equipped on low ps ships
The problem is if your opponent ships are higher ps they won't be where they are when you lay your bomb. You'll be playing a guessing game. "is he going to move close to the bomb or fly away"
You don't want to be guessing for a one time 5pt upgrade.
I recommend proximity mines because they work better on low ps ships.
You get to move first. Now you know where your opponents ships are.
So you fly by Coran lay your proximity mine as an action, it lands under him, it detonates right away.
Doing possible dmg.
Even if you miss, it stays in play making it a good lane blocker and decloak blocker
Just having it can play mind games with your opponent
If you really want proton bombs I suggest equipping on a high ps ship. So you get to move last, and there is no guessing involved, since your opponent has moved his ships before yours

efiend got a reaction from Blail Blerg in Something different and chaotic
I made myself build a squadron from randomly selecting two cards from my Empire collection. I am tired of my brain going for the expected. I got Royal Guard and Scimitar. I selected upgrades to try and move it into a compeditive squadron. I was thinking of sending bombers into the opponent's main force while focus picking with fly bys from the Interceptors.
Royal Pains 99 pts.
Scimitar Squadron Pilot + Proton Bombs (21) Royal Guard Pilot + Push the Limit + Autothrusters (27) Royal Guard Pilot + Push the Limit + Autothrusters (27) Scimitar Squadron Pilot + Proton Bombs + Hull Upgrade (24) -

Actually, I'd wish they had included dedicated domain cards in the core set like they did in the CCG starter packs.

efiend reacted to Buhallin in Tantive IV attacks?
Yeah, all the replies missed the actual key rules difference you were looking for
Huge ships can attack with the primary weapon AND each secondary weapon - they don't make a choice of one the way normal ships do. So primary + 3 hardpoints = 4 attacks.

efiend reacted to Sekac in Range ruler touches both bases, but does it overlap?
Totally agree. That's why I don't see the point of arguing to that level of precision. If I can see the table between the range ruler and the target, I'm not allowing the shot. If I can't, I'll give 'em the benefit of the doubt and let 'em take the shot.
It's why I favor the "reach" argument. It requires only the casual sort of measurement that gamers with cardboard are going to produce. The "overlap" argument ends up becoming a quagmire of precision measurements and geometric proofs. It's absurd.
-
efiend reacted to Bilisknir in Range ruler touches both bases, but does it overlap?
Can I just point out that the range ruler is cardboard. It is not infinitely stiff, it will bend, flex, and distort. It will suffer from compression. In addition the bases are not perfectly stable, you touch them and they will move. As such I find it hard to believe from a physics perspective that you can have the range ruler touching both bases without having overlapped (if at the molecular level) at least initially.

efiend reacted to ziggy2000 in Range ruler touches both bases, but does it overlap?
please dear god let this thread die...
-
efiend reacted to DB Draft in Range ruler touches both bases, but does it overlap?
Technically "touching" and "overlapping" should mean the same thing but there is a difference. If the template is not partially covering the base it would seem to be not a valid target under the rules you state above. The range ruler has to touch your ship's base but needs to overlap your target.
Of course I can see it being played as a valid target and "benefit of the doubt" should rule in favour that it is a target.

Yup.. free stuff guys price gouge and sell on ebay.. personally I don't 'collect' I buy stuff to play with.. I have a few alt cards due participation and I resfuse to pay outrageous prices to gain items that are unnecessary for the game.. be careful when you go looking for these items.

efiend reacted to KommanderKeldoth in Obsessed with this game!
Just got back from visiting family and friends back in my hometown. Of course I brought my X-wing stuff and of course all of my old gaming buddies are now hopelessly addicted. They are now rushing out to buy minis!
I probably played 4-5 games of wing per day and stayed for a week. Still. Not. Tired. of it

Possibly, but you probably don't want to wait for an answer here. I asked a question a couple weeks ago about the forum itself and still haven't got an answer. Try finding an email address for FFG customer support and ask them.

efiend reacted to VanorDM in Upgrade cards?
Yes there is.
http://xwing-miniatures.wikia.com/wiki/X-Wing_Miniatures_Wiki
It has every expansion and includes what cards come with each expansion. Or you can search by upgrade name and it will list the pages it's found on. A bit more work that way, but still pretty easy.
-
efiend reacted to VanorDM in Upgrade cards?
It depends on...
Tournament rules require that you have the the card for each upgrade you have in your list.
Friendly games, it depends on what everyone agrees too. If they're ok with you using some sort of proxie, like say a slip of paper or something then you can do that.
I think it's best to at least have something on the table that represents the upgrade so everyone can see what each ship has. There's no hidden lists in X-Wing so everyone should be able to glace at your cards and know what ship has what upgrades.
Some people prefer you build based on what you actually own, some are fine with you not doing that... There's really no right answer, just opinions. Unless again, you're playing in a FFG sanctioned event.
