  1. Does the faction targeted card have to be competitive?.  Many people play themed, story games and not 100pt, 6 asteroid, battles that need lists to be optimised to meet all-comers.  I think that having cards to gain advantages over other factions is a good thing when used in thematic games, following a narrative thread where the opponents are trying to best a known enemy.  I also think this applies somewhat to all ships in the game.  Do they need to all be competitive in the 100pt game or are some produced for those gamers that like themed, narrative, missions and games?

  2. Moving asteroids are great fun.  We assign a D6 to each and that becomes its pilot skill i.e. when the asteroid moves.  A directional dice is rolled and the asteroid moves in that direction by 1.  If a dead hit is rolled it moves 2.

It is great fun but annoying when you hide behind an asteroid at range 3 from your opponent with both of you on 1 hull point and then the asteroid moves 2 and hits you full in the face. game over, curses.

  3. If you replace the primary with HLC on the outrider and then lose the sec weapon due to a crit how does the primary suddenly appear back on the ship?  I would have thought the sec weapon, HLC, is still there it just does not work.  If both weapons were there all the time you could choose whether to use primary or secondary and that is not the case.

  4. Over christmas re read the Thrawn Trilogy, fave EU stuff ever.  Now reading Pratchett's 'Raising Steam' as I got this for Christmas.

On to of that I have been browsing 'Astounding Adventures' a 30s pulp source book for the BRP system, another present.

For those who looked at the wheel of time series I am trying to get into that but have only managed half way through book one, its so slow.

perhaps I was spoiled by my love for the Belgariad and Mallorean.

  5. I also like Army painters shading varnishes.  I use the medium and dark tones.  Not tried them on an x wing mini but when I got sick of painting many many Orks I used it and the results were good for a quarter the work I usually did.  I found that for more detailed minis a base colour and 1 highlight colour was sufficient and the varnish then shaded the mini beautifully.

I dont dip the minis but paint on using a brush and remove some with an empty brush if I put too much on.  The medium tone works well with reds and browns and other warm colours the dark tone with metallics and blues.  Using a brush means that I can use the correct varnish for the colour.

Only issue is that it dries gloss so a good matt varnish is then required to kill that.

  6. Would be a blast I am sure.

I had a go at a Lego based game at Warfare show in Reading. The table was decorated with Lego jungle trees and the battle was woks versus walkers and storm troopers all in Lego. It was great and damaged weapon results resulted in physical removal of the weapon.

  7. Tried Vader with ATC yesterday in an epic game.  He was a blast 1 shotting a lowly z95 and heavily damaging 2 others before he was focussed down by evil rebel scum and taking 3 separate attacks from the Tantive.  His defence suffered a little as I was using tgt lock actions and not turtling up so as to use the ATC effects.  All in all though very pleased as I often use Vader and he is now better.

However i have never used Stele or the generics but may well do so when my second Advanced arrives.

  8. I also love my bombers and use them fairly often, however, my group plays mainly for fun so non competitive lists are often on the table and in general for 100 point battles the Bomber is perhaps outclassed by many others.  Lets face it should bombers be mixing it up with dedicated fighters expecting to win.

However when it comes to epic they are awesome.  Yesterday was a 6 player 400pt a side epic battle and the bombers were awesome as they should be.  My friend took 4 bombers and ST321 shuttle.  This doom laden formation ran into the corvette screened by Howlrunner and her mini swarm.  Much hilarity and firing of missiles and torpedoes ensued with no bomber losses.

  9. Did this as a little scenario at 100 puts with a friend.  I only wanted to fly 2 Interceptors as part of the scenario so I took 2 RG with PTL and a shield upgrade if I remember correctly.  I then sank all the rest of the points into the basic shuttle with gunner, Vader etc.

I told my friend that intel had notified the rebels that Vader was in transit near a asteroid field and he should deploy snub fighters to go get him.  he came with a 3 ship x-wing build that included Wedge and Luke at least.

It was a fun battle with Wedge going almost straight away followed by the over upgraded shuttle.  The remainder of the battle was a dance with a rebel victory with both x wings only having 1 hull left and 1 of these a singe shield as well (R2D2).

  10. No way, roll on epic. It's still dogfighting around the big ships, just like in ROTJ. I can't wait for the raider.

I also agree with TIE pilot. My friends and I rarely play the same list and if some one wants to field 105 pts or 155 we just balance up and go for it.

I am looking forward to the advanced improvement a lot as I play vader often with either his Ep IV wingmen or 2'nombers. Even won a couple of games with em.

  11. Tabletop for me is only xwing that I play and own.  I have a 40K Ork army that I only bought to give my son and his Marine army something to fight.  Both of us got fed up with the updates to rule being too often and the price hike for minis becoming ludicrous.

I go to a club with around 8 members with 4-6 turning up regularly on games night.  We play x wing a fair amount but have dabbled recently in Dropzone Commander, Dystopian Wars and Legion and various other skirmish games including the old 80s Carwars that I have loads of.

I am more of a role player and have recently run Dark heresy campaigns as well as home-brewed BRP games covering Steampunk, WH40K and a modern Zombie apocalypse game.

In my vast collection or rules I still have my 80s collection covering all forms of Traveller including GURPS but not D20, AD&D, Laserburn, Twighlight 2000, CoC, RQ, WHFRP to name a few.
