  1. Oh Cifer, if you are playing in a game where there are marines, the sorc is still the glass cannon among marines. The requirement for a psyker to improve their psycics limits them in other areas. Thus, a forsaken or a champion make a better tank. On top of that, all it takes is a crappy focus power test and the psyker is down for an encounter or more. In my game its mostly humans, however I still retain a great deal of durability because of power armor and tk shield. The two psykers in my group are canaries. If something is going to hurt us, then it needs to die NOW. However generally the issue with psykers is that their powers allow them to branch into other areas. As much as I loathe meta-gaming, both I and the other psyker in my group did so, to keep our power levels lower to allow for others to play as well. While a CSM sorcerer is not a glass cannon in a group of humans, he is in a group of marines. IMHO if the GM of your group allowed a Sorcerer into a group of human heretics, then your GM was extremely foolish. There is a certain amount of control a GM must exercise if they wish to maintain both party and campaign balance, and that is a discussion that needs to be had with the person running the game.
  2. People complain about psykers all the time. What many people don't seem to understand is that unless you go nurgle, you are exactly like the old 1st ed. D&D wizard. A glass cannon. My group jokingly refers to my psyker as the 155, because he is their artillery. However unless he can be protected from incoming fire he dies, fast.

  4. So in our last session our heretek was doing some crafting when we ran across an issue. The extended tests section in one paragraph and so we have no idea how crafting is supposed to work. On the crafting sidebar it gives you successes needed and time taken, but it is fairly vague. I think it is supposed to be degrees of success needed and the time each roll of your crafting skill takes. So armor would require 12 total degrees of success, but each roll would count for 1d10 days. Someone else in the group thinks its you need 12 successful rolls and each one is 1d10 days. Any suggestion guys?
  5. Actually IIRC there is a rule somewhere in the front of the book that says you always round up. I don't have my book on me atm though, so I cant check.
  6. When compared to glimpse, vile revelation does kind of suck. I have no idea why they would make it as bad as it is. Also, you cannot attack anything but other incorporeal creatures if you use flicker; but almost nothing can hurt you, you gain a +30 on stealth tests, nothing can imprison you (aside from void shields, gellar shields ect.) and you can fly.
  7. One of the other things you can do is hope for illusion of normalcy when you roll for your first gift.
  8. My copy has also begun to come apart. Though no pages have fallen out yet, they are loose from their binding and sag if I hold the book up while reading. It's a bit worrisome.
  9. Unless they are using suppressing fire. Then hits are determined randomly.

No living Eldar would ever willingly associate with human Chaos worshippers. They would rather die, and Harlequins even more so. Even Necrons, I think, Eldar see as a better alternative than what they call THE PRIMORDIAL ANNIHILATOR and to which their SOULS are forfeit when they die unprotected and which slew their GODS (except Harlequins, and Cegorach, but that still isn't a good reason). If you want to put some Eldars in, I would suggest the Dark variety, otherwise it doesn't make much sense (to me, at least). Even Dark Eldar hate chaos. In fact the Dark Eldar have had their psychic powers atrophy because they are forbidden from using them inside Cammorgah. The Dark Eldar will actually team up with other Eldar to defeat Chaos, because they know that when they die their souls go straight to she who thirsts. I don't honestly think that any non-insane Eldar would ever help a Chaos worshiper.
  11. Magni, the rules actually state that heretics get a -10 to acquisitions tests on imperial worlds.

While I like the failings and motivations as a concept, they do force mechanical consideration into what should be about background and personality. (Wait, if I'm full of Hubris I have have to be dumb? But... my hubris is about how smart I am... what?) Our group just rolled. Which came out hilariously appropriate anyway. My character has charm/hubris/ascendancy, the other psyker has fortitude/hubris/arcane. Everyone in the group rolled some funny combos and they all still work, though I suppose it's partly because we all wrote back stories for our characters after we rolled. Not a bad idea, but I would suggest that if you are going to use a bare bones background stat system, make them roll on the prides/failings stuff to give the characters some depth beyond "RAWRRRGGGGRRGG I SMASH!!!!". But that is just MHO
  13. Also keep in mind the amount of damage mitigation your party has. The GM in my campaign admitted he is having trouble giving us challenges, mainly because of that. Both of the groups psykers have TK shield and will often push for an additional psy rating or two when using it, giving a character with a toughness in the 30's a potential damage mitigation of 12 right out the gate. While TK shield does dissipate as a round goes on (functions like cover, remember that) it can still make a psyker a truly horrifying opponent to begin with because they cannot be hurt. And psykers aren't the only characters with that kind of mitigation, our tech priest has no psy powers and has a comparable damage mitigation because of armor, and mechanicus assimilation. When crafting encounters for your group, make sure you consider damage mitigation and damage output. That is going to be the best way to craft a challenge for your group.
  14. We actually have looted thrones off of people. So I imagine that our GM is going to use both systems. I'm hoping that he just does it the RT way when we are on Imperial worlds using infamy, though making us use a lore:underworld or some such test to find a "merchant" willing and able to deal with heretics. It could even be another infamy test to see if any of the shadier legit merchants would be willing to deal with us.
