Design question - why did you choose the layout here, rather than keeping the card features  where they are on the standard card? I think that would look just as good, and then she wouldn't look kinda like an attachment -- title on the side and whatnot.

As mentioned previously, I modeled the card on the full bleeds that AGOT 2.0 does.  I posted an example here

They retell same story in AGoT 1.0 and now in AGoT 2.0. Everyody knows the story behind it. Game is worse because of it?

I hate when people make that argument.   It's completely different.  In AGOT lcg they aren't telling any story.  GRRM told a story and ffg is just making a game of it.  For l5r, the story is the game and is being told by the players of the game (in a way)

They've started doing European Championships with card design as a prize, so they're getting somewhat better (not to AEG's level, though, since they keep Worlds in their center). However, I'm not sure the majority of their customers are in NA. I don't have access to their sales numbers, but there are a lot of players in Europe.

My understanding is that world's is held in their hq. It's not a NA vs Europe thing.   However I thought they started providing airfare and hotel accommodations to the people who have qualified for world's

They probably won't be able to do alt art using the original rings, as above. FFG only bought the art rights that AEG owned, and AEG didn't own the rights to any of the art from either the Clan Wars or Jade arcs.

Not saying your wrong, but if AEG didn't own the rights, why were they able to print them as promos in Ivory?

I tend to sleeve my decks. So, I'm gonna print this baby out and slip it over on top of her actual card. As long as that's cool with @JRosen9.

Going to do the same thing with the other Champs? Pretty please?

Apparently my last post got eaten.   I have no problem with people doing whatever they want with it.   I'll probably do the rest of the iconics provided I can find art.

Love the idea. I still am happy looking at my full bleed Paneki.

I would personally like it more if the military/political would be located at the same place as the original card. This makes attachments just better to parse.

I like the glory marker position and the name on the side that looks pretty nice.

I modeled the full bleed on the AGOT ones.   There they moved the conflict icons from the top to the bottom.   However, AGOT uses static icons without values so it may not have been a good comparison.  I'm on my way out for memorial day weekend but I'll see if I can keep the conflict numbers in the same location.   The only issue is that will require putting the mon below the conflict numbers which might look odd

I added Toturi to the spoiler because of this tweet:

It's the same level of evidence as Togashi Kazui, Warrior Poet, and Isawa Atsuko. It's possible that the artist was mistaken or that the card won't be in the core set, but given that it's already been showed off... I don't think that's terribly likely.

I'd say there is definitely a Toturi card coming however, I wouldn't say its assured for the core set.  In the AEG days, they would put out contracts for art well ahead of sets.  In some cases the artist would post the art and the card using wouldn't be released for another 2-3 sets (and sometimes never).  I don't know how FFG does it, but it wouldn't surprise me if they are close to finalizing the print files for the entire first block and that piece could just as easily be in those cards than the core.

Sorting by element I didn't even consider that.

Today it just hit me that Unicorn could have one additional province card at number 15. That would resolve the imbalance in total Unicorn cards.

However Ancestral Land is a hot contender for #15 and I did't think of any way how the Provinces might be sorted so it could appear on another number. However ring sorting could totally be a thing for provinces.

I don't think Unicorn would have 2 provinces.  With 17 provinces that means each clan has 1 and 2 neutral for each element.  If we are all correct and you need to have 1 of each element for provinces, then giving unicorn 2 provinces means 1 element doesn't have a deck construction choice (unless your clan one shares the element) and everyone is forced to use that one.

It's a new game and I don't want to compare with o5r too much but duelling used to be a 6 cost character like Kakita Hideo killing a Clan Champion, regardless of attachments, and gaing honor and other bonuses through focus effects.

Can't you see how wrong that is?  For next to no investment you were killing a very expensive character with attachments and you gained other things off of it.

As far as what Crane and dragon have that make them better duelists?  Well for 1, Crane have the duels.  We haven't seen every card but right now the only way to initiate a duel is with crane cards.  Of the two cards, the unique has a powerful effect should he win and so/so disadvantage if you lose.  You are either sending home all but 1 of his guys or just sending home him.  Further, you should probably only be using his ability if you start out ahead or think you can bluff for honor.  As for the other card, you can put it on any character you want and you control the targets.  Provided you start even a little ahead, you are probably safe bidding 1 and winning or gaining a bunch honor.

As for dragon, while we haven't seen a lot of cards, we know they have attachments and those will help with dueling.

I didn't know how other ffg games work in that regard. I like this kind of ruling and if they keep it I hope discarding works across different versions, since it seems like the contrary would favor only ever playing a single version of the character per deck. Thanks for explaining how it works in other games.

Typically you only want to ever run a single version in a deck.  As you can't bring both out at the same time and can't have more than 3 TOTAL copies of a character in your deck, you typically only want to run copies of the one that helps you the most.

In the "What is happening with the Legend of Five Rings storyline part of the product description, there are little blurbs on the different clans. In the Lion part, it is said that Arasou is the Lion clan "Leader" and that Toturi is a young brillant general. It would surprising that named characters in the product description are in the core set.

By that logic, Kachiko should be listed in the floating cards for Scorpion but does not appear.  Also, the fact that the only known Crane in the core is Hotaru, makes this a bad assumption to make.

If they go with this route I wonder if you can only discard the exact version to add fate to a character in play or if they will make it work across versions. I'm guessing the former, since the latter could make superfriends deck types to powerful.

I would actually assume the latter.  In AGOT, you can only include 3 copies of a unique character in your deck period and you can only have 1 of them in play at any time.  Assuming they make an expansion hotaru, you could not run 3x Hotaru (core) and 3x Hotaru (expansion), but you could run 1x Hotaru (core) and 2x Hotaru (expansion).  However, you couldn't have both in play at the same time.

    I agree on 1 and 2.

Way of the Dragon was in a card fan where I think we got a glimpse of its number.

Akodo Arasou is the Lion Clan Champion.  Akodo General is what someone interpreted the bowed Lion character from the Showcase layout as.

You are correct on the Dragon.  It was in the initial release of previewed cards that I ignored the numbers on as They seemed not to be final.

In regards to the Lion clan champion, I thought Toturi was the Clan champ.  His spreadsheet had both Toturi and Arasou as floating cards.  I assume one is the champion and will be in the set.  I haven't seen any mention that the other one will unless I missed it.

If you copy paste the cards into word, and scale their image to 3.5" that's a pretty decent fit. The other dimension should auto size to follow the 3.5".

I would actually set the width of the card to 2.3 (this should auto size the height to 3.2.  This makes them slightly smaller than the actual cards and easy to sleeve in with another card.

I am a very visual and spatial learner. Given that, I decided to make a spreadsheet given the information we've got and then extrapolate from there. Here is the link to my online Google spreadsheet:

    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1vUzqEqnHtFnl24SKACZTqyiHhrOW9HQzTBjYAbAuaKU/edit?usp=sharing

Very nice breakdown.  Here is where I found differences between my spreadsheet and yours.

    1) I have Elemental Fury as card 16.  I am certain I saw that revealed.  This puts Ancestral Lands at 15 (Unless sorting is by element and not alphabetical).

    2) I have Borderlands Fortification as card 38

    3) I have no number on Way of the Dragon

    4) You have several cards in the floating cards that I have not seen mentioned as cards.  I know the champions have been stated to be in the set but cards such as Akodo General or Akodo Arasou I have not seen mentioned.

Also, when they first started making announcements about this game, I was worried there would be a dearth of information on it until the few weeks leading up to its release. I guess I'm used to how FFG makes X-Wing information releases, where you can go a whole month and maybe get a single article sometimes. Thankfully, they've been incredibly generous with articles for this game. An article every week and a Facebook live stream every other week? Noice!

I'd assume after release it will go to like their other games where you get an article every couple weeks.  You have to remember that they have 250 cards that need to be spoiled over 14 weeks (average of 18 cards per week) and they need to keep up hype during that time.  After that its 20 cards every 4 weeks (average 5 cards per week)

Updated with Crane Clan revelations, and a bunch more question marks because of the unequal card numbers confirmation.

I thought maybe I could logicially deduce the what the cards are based on the clans under the assumption that each clan got the same total amount of cards.  However, that doesn't work because under the assumption that all the crane cards have been seen, that means that each clan should have 24 cards.  However, summing the total number of revealed unicorn cards, the unknown cards between unicorn and the neutrals, and the unknown cards between the scorpion and unicorn cards only gives you 22.  That means barring some weird numbering, Unicorn has less cards than at least crane
